What the Critics Say

"Compelling characters and wonderfully dense plotting are two reasons why Singh's books continue to enthrall. There is no finer storyteller around!" (Romantic Times)

Great series!!!! This is my favorite series. Each book builds on the overall world while keeping you interested in the individual romances. A few of the book were about secondary characters that I didn’t care about at the beginning and absolutely loved by the end. This review applies to the first 9 books in the series.

Nalini Singh does it again, Her Psy-changling world is quite creative. I will be sad when I have to wait longer to get them since she only has two more out that I haven't read.

    NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 1/2
    REVIEW:
Andrew Kincaid is a man on a mission. The target Indigo Riviere the hard headed, uber strong, and damn sexy SnowDancer Lieutenant. The only problem with this mission is that Drew has messed up the first attack so badly that there may not be any recovering from it.
But Mr. Kincaid is one of the most stubborn men there is and with his eye on the prize he will not let anything or anyone stand in his way. Not even Indigo herself.

Indigo, man this girl made me love her and hate her all in the span of one chapter. I wanted to hug her, kicker, and slap her upside the head so many times in this book. But in the end I just loved her stubborn mule-headedness. Drew on the other hand is so fun lovin that he makes your heart smile. I guess that is why these two are so good.

So, so, so in love with this series. I do have a bone to pick with Ms. Singh. Why must you write stories that are so beyond awesome and make me fall in love with each character so much? So much so that I cry while listening to this book. Let me tell you I sure get some funny looks from other drivers when I am cry or laughing my butt off listening :) Thank you Ms. Singh for being so freakin amazing!!! Thank you to Angela for being one of my favorite narrators!!!

On to the next one!!!! Finally made to to Hawke’s story!!!

    "I totally loved this one"
What was one of the most memorable moments of Play of Passion?

There was a lot of good stuff in this book, but for whatever reason, the scene where Drew goes cray cray on Mathias during the mating dance was just so hot to me. Guess I like it when men go all territorial.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! This series started off strong by presenting good love stories in an interesting world. By now (book 9) I'm totally into the goings on as much as (and sometimes) even more than the romance. Unlike the 2 previous books where the focus was more on action than romance, this installment hit all the right notes, giving a good balance of action and "action." I also appreciated that neither of these characters had major personality roadblocks, but more...normal...hangups that I could sympathize with more than I have the last few books. It also helped that we had known these characters before this book, so less time was need to build up their personalities.

    Any additional comments?

I can't believe I'm already done with book 9. I'm waist-deep in this shizz and loving every minute of it!!

    "Great series, really good book"

I really enjoyed this book and again the over reaching story arc makes it all the better. The characters are really well done and the plots interlink well between books. The narrator does a very nice job. You have to read this series in order.

I enjoy reading series and very rarely read stand alone series. I mostly read romance and sci-fi & fantasy.

    "Good"
Would you listen to Play of Passion again? Why?

Yes I would. Even though the story line got me mad at times and i wanted to shake some sense into Indigo. It was still a good read.

What did you like best about this story?

That Drew never gave up on what he wanted and he fought for it.

Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe – was your favorite?

Andrew. He reminds me of my own brother and she portrayed him very well.

    "Better the second time through"
    Any additional comments?

I had to read this book twice to really appreciate it. The first time through I found myself really frustrated by Indigo's obstinacy, and a bit put off by Drew's goofball ways. However, like all of Nalini's books the entire story was so well written, with enough depth to the plot, that I wanted to give it another try. On the second run-through I was able to sympathize more with Indigo's awkward position, and also able to appreciate Drew's antics as a pleasant break from some of the more domineering heroes that tend to populate romances. These characters are well-crafted, complex and lovable, and the world of the Psy and Changelings has developed so richly that this book will spend a long time on my audible book playlist.

"Most painful listen of the series."

I love Nalini Singh -- but reading this book, I was reminded of how Andy Warhol ended up hiring people to paint for him, selling the resultant product under his name. Nothing of what I love about Nalini Singh is here -- it feels as if the first part of this book was cut and pasted in Word, then the names were searched and replaced by different character names. I hated Indigo, who didn't come off as a strong alpha female so much as a sexually abused or sexually averse product of a dysfunctional childhood. The well-worn formula failed miserably here. I won't be wasting any more credits on this series, and I hope Nalini Singh won't be wasting any more of her time producing it. Let it die already! (Oh, and did I mention how perfectly cheesy the cover photo is? Looks like what it is though -- really bad porn.)
