From the mean streets of Detroit rises the newest superstar of professional wrestling, Xavier Cold, better known as Phenomenal X. His muscular physique makes men cower before him and women lose their minds with desire. Anna Cortez is fresh out of college and naïve to the harsh realities of the real world. Tired of living under the thumb of her conservative family, she defies them when she accepts a job as the assistant to wrestling's most notorious bad boy. Phenomenal X has an animalistic nature that even good girl Anna finds hard to resist. Forced to share a bed in a sold-out hotel, lines blur between them, and they quickly learn that one lustful night changes everything. Neither one of them will ever be the same. Contains mature themes.

I am 3 hours into this book and I started to roll my eyes when she would say over and over she wasn't that type of girl. I like strong funny woman and this wasn't for me.
hmmmm...Where to start....I guess if you haven't already guessed it, based on other reviews let me spell this out THIS BOOK WILL LEAVE YOU HANGING! Now, normally this wouldn't be a big deal, except Book 2 is not due to be released until later this year (yep, i checked the author's website!)
The first thing I loved about this book is it's a 2-sided story. As the listener, we get to see things from Ana's view and X's view. The Author did a fantastic job with transitioning from Ana to X.
Ana is a sweet, innocent & sheltered 21 yr old who has had enough of the confines of the world she knows. She runs away for a "fresh start".. While this is what we come to know about her, I have a feeling there is still more and maybe Ana might be just as damaged as X in a different sort of way!
X is an entertainment wrester, with a body, attitude and manor to match. X is also very broken...We get a taste of just how broken in this book, almost as though this is the least of X's demons and more is yet to come!
When fate puts Ana and X together, the journey that they take in a few weeks left me craving more. There are funny moments, there are heart pumping moments and sad moments. This is a hot, sexy, funny, sweet & sour moment type book. The author pulls you in from the start to finish and of course at the end you want to know what now?
I have never listened to a book narrated by Alexandria but She was amazing. She maintained a clear tone of voice, distinct voices for each character and good voice fluctuation. She nailed her conversational lines. She did not sound like she had a cold or breathing as she narrated. She is one I will have no hesitation listening to in other books.
I have loved Sean Crisden's narration from prior books and knew he would be great as always. He has a smooth voice, though not the best female voice but close enough. His narration always takes me where i need to go without fail.
This is not an MMA book, think more like WWE....
The bottom line: If you want the roller coaster relationship, the amazing chemistry and a book that will reel you in from start to finish, then THIS IS IT! Ana sweets will have un in aww.... and X is definitely gonna give it to ya!
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
I am so pissed right now! I cannot believe the second book isn't out... What a freaking cliffhanger! Urgh!!!! I hate listening to an awesome book that has me so involved then Whamp!!! Cliffhanger....
And the Cliffhanger in this one... OMG!!! Seriously.... Second book.... Instant Download!!!
X is superstar wrestler from extremely bad origins... but he meets the sweetness thing on an airplane and their romance/friendship start from there. I totally enjoyed all the sweet moments between these too... I am actually glad they moved from friends to serious so quickly... it kept the story going.... I feel like it would have start dragging if they angst played out for too long... But the ending...OMG! I can not believe the story just ended like that... Seriously!!!!
Good Narration... I am not one for dual narration...but I was still worth a good listen.
Good credit or sale....maybe not a buy!
Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't this book a lesser version of the AMAZING Katy Evan's "REAL" series? What a disappointment. If I had not read Katy Evan's "REAL" series, this might have been an OK book, just an OK book and that's all.
The storyline is thin, characters could have been great, but totally under developed and missed the mark. If you liked this series, I strongly suggest you go download the "REAL" series by Katy Evans. You will see why I feel Phenomenal X is a knock-off. 50 Shades and it's knock-offs... So overdone. Now the fighters and rock stars? ugh
The narrator did do a nice job.
I enjoyed the audiobook. I wasn't trying to tear my ear drums out. It was a perfect pairing for narrators.
I liked this book. Did not love it. But the ending was pretty fitting with the feel of the book. Their was no shocking end, more predictable but entertaining.
I like their voices for these characters, a good audiobook is all about choosing the right narrator for the character and genre along with age group. I listened to a young woman's voice for a young woman's character. It was well suited which mad it more enjoyable.
I always thought this was a stupid question. Next ...
I would recommend this one, lately I have been buying books and hating them because the narration a are mismatched but this book gave me what I was looking for in a story. I'm satisfied.
Say something about yourself!
YES YES YES! Because the narration was THE BEST I have ever heard and the story is great too. Enjoyed listening to the narration more than any other audiobook I've ever 'read'.
X & Anna...obvious reasons ;)
When the female narrator did X's voice - Oh swoon!!!
A few :)
I want the sequel...yesterday! ;)
I am an avid reader of fiction. I have found that listening to audio books adds another layer of appreciation to the art of writing.
Yes, it was entertaining .... and it was an easy listen.
I think this one stands alone. I have read other MMA books ... but this one is a favorite.
Sometimes I do not care for dual narration. It worked with this book. The POV's of both were well preformed and you could actually relate to the characters largely in part due to the narrators.
Quite frankly, being the sucker that I am .... I liked how he had time for his "little" fans by signing anything they wanted on the plane.
This book is one of my favorites in recent purchasing. I highly recommend it to anybody who wants to lose themselves into a good story ....
The main character
The ending bothered me. There is none...
Ready for the next book in the series to come out. So I know what happens.
At the bottom
The narrator for Anna was just awkward for me. She seemed cowardly and never took up for herself.
It made me cry b/c I wasted a credit on it and it was not that great.
The accents were really bad. The narrator got an Indian accent down pat for the aunt, but unfortunately, she was going for Spanish. And the MC's whiny voice drove me crazy!
I recently read Real by Katy Evans. The story lines between these two books are SO similar. Switch a boxer with a wrestler and a physical therapist with a personal assistant and you now have Phenomenal X. Even the bad guy in the stories are both the MCs main competitor in the ring who tries to goad the MC into getting into a fight outside the ring, which would get him fired. The MC's personal demons are similar as well. Both books were okay, but they are entirely too similar.
