Publisher's summary

This stunning blend of historical romance and time traveling adventure has captured the hearts of millions of readers around the world and catapulted author Diana Gabaldon to the top of the New York Times best seller list. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love.

In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. Their blissful reunion is shattered when she touches a boulder in an ancient stone ruin and is instantly transported to 1743 Scotland, a place torn by war and raiding border clans. Will Claire find her way back to her own time, or is her destiny forever linked with Clan MacKenzie and the gallant James Fraser?

Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Featured Article: Outlander Timeline Explained

There are eight audiobooks in the Outlander time travel series, with more planned. Most of the audiobooks are more than 30 hours long, which means the series covers a lot of story. And since the series follows Claire back and forth in time, and sometimes covers both her and Jamie’s timelines simultaneously, it’s a lot to keep track of when you’re listening. It’s almost as dizzying as time traveling yourself! Can’t keep the timeline of Outlander straight? Don’t worry, we’ve got the entire timeline explained, plus the rules on time travel in the popular series.

This is my second time, listening to this book. It’s been a couple of years, since the first time. My audio library contains over a thousand books, and I have a list of authors I really like, however, there are only one or two that are truly gifted writers. Above all, Diana Gabaldon is the most gifted. I feel like I’m living along side, her characters, through their adventures.

Very Long But Worth It

Many others have sung the praises of this book and I cannot improve upon their praises. So this will be short and sweet.

The book has a wonderful story, wonderful characters, and absolutely amazing narration. I will continue with the series and look forward to listening to ALL the unabridged vesions, but it will take time. They are all long but do not drag.

I am hooked!!

Narrator

The narrator is very good. Not the best match for Claire though. Made her sound a bit the old shrew

better than the series by far!!

I started with the series so I got the outline of the story and plots of it in mind.

I thought that this book would be just like the series but it's amazing how much deeper the plot and story line go.

This book is by far the start of my favorite set of books. cant wait to hear the next one.. I honestly have to say that as I listened to outlander I wished that I too could have a real Scotsman to call my own....not just the passion but just to hear that romantic accent I love so much.

I think that the love Jamie and Clair have is what every woman wants. the passion and the soul deep love that would make the hair on ur skin stand straight up with anticipation.

Wonderful

I first watched the television series before finding these books, and I’m left impressed with the translation from book to screen. The narrator is simply wonderful. This story is one you won’t want to put down and you’ll be saying you dinna kin before you know it.

Hard To Put Down

Wove skillfully with emotion, historical references, bits of superstitions, fairv dust, religious absolution, and human cunning. What more can you want? The show was so artfully done that it made me want to go back for more to read the novels. A great companion to my exercise. Diana knows what she’s doing! A must read for history fans.
