Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Love this story

Couldn't "put it down" and would sit in the car listening long after I'd pulled to the driveway. You'll enjoy it too should you like historical romances with a touch of intrigue, humor, adventure and action.

Excellent narration

Not my typical type of book, so probably enjoyed it more than I should.

The narrator is excellent.

The story is long, but kept me engaged most of the time.

Not at all about time travel or sci fi. But its the Scottish Highlanders that make the story.

Get throuth the begining and it's a GREAT story!!!

I found the beginning to be long and drawn out with excruciatingly detailed descriptions of the drapes, houses, each scene and person. I found it to drag on and on with no real development. I nearly gave up and turned it off, however in the very beginning she mentions a disappearance, so I figured it had to get better, at least more exciting....and it DID. After the beginning handful of chapters the story immediately picked up and turned into an exciting adventure of romance, history, loyalty and struggle. There is a lot of sex and injuries/pain inflicted from one person to another, that at times seems to slip again into the overly detailed, but other than that it was a great listen that kept me gripped after the first few chapters. So glad I wadded thru the beginning as I really enjoyed the rest of the book.

great story , needs better narration

The narrator sounds like Judy Densch, which made Claire seem old. I wish Jaimie was read by a man, it just didn't work with a woman reading his part. Thank goodness for the TV show to keep the characters imagined well.

I'm enjoying this series

I was unsure about starting this series because of the period in time that it takes place. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try! I can't wait to start listening to the next book.

Outstanding

I loved the narrator Davina Porter's use of different accents and was quickly drawn into mental images while listening to the book. I had read the series already and was amazed how many mispronunciations (especially names) I had been using. I look forward to future narrations by Davina and look forward to lsitening to other OUTLANDER audiobooks.
