Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

A must read/listen

A beautifully written book, rich with detail of Scotland in both the 18th and 20th centuries. I am eager to begin the next book in the series.
Davina Porter's reading was artfully done. She does a beautiful job of transitioning from one character to the next.

Wonderful vibrant characters mixed with some romance and adventure and history in a beautiful story! I have read and re read the entire series many many times and still enjoy and continue to return to it! Highly recommended to all! Additionally very well narrated and wonderfully represented in vocal form.

Exceptional!

I have recently become hooked on the Starz TV show, Outlander so I decided I must read the books. I believe they have done a wonderful job with the show. While there are obviously some differences, overall I think they have stayed true to the book.

Outlander is a sweeping, epic tale that bends your mind and heart. Set mostly in 18th century Scotland, the backdrop, characters, and story weave together to create a world that I personally long to enter.

Be warned, this is a long audio book.... over 32 hours. Some of the subject matter is difficult. But, I enjoyed every single minute of it and look forward to the next.

Did anyone else notice the audio?

Davina Porter is an excellent narrator, but I could totally hear someone else narrating another book in the background! It wasn’t very loud, but it was weird and quite distracting.

The last 80% of this story totally fell apart for me. I kind of have book whiplash right now, like WTF happened?!

After hundreds of audible listens.......this book

I have hundreds of audible books, but this first book of the series is still my favorite. I have listened to the entire series at least eight times (that's a lot of listening hours). I admit that I am completely in love with Jamie Fraser (and a little in love with Claire as well). The whole idea of time travel is so fascinating but the time period chosen to tell this story really drew me in. The story and the characters are so well developed and the dialogue is just pure genius. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and about to start listening to the entire series once again. Outlander, you rule!

Addicting

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I first read this book about 10 years ago. Once I started I could not put it down. Now every time a new book is to come out I start reading them all over again starting at the very beginning. If you love history you will love this series. If you enjoy time travel this is the series for you. If you just love good reading this is the one to read. You fall in love with Jamie and Claire and get transported right along with them.

The whole thing I love it so much I can't pick just one.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cry everytime I read them.
