Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Didn't want it to end

I loved this book! I didn't want the saga of Jamie and Claire to end! It is a good thing there are 3 more books that follow this family! I really enjoyed the narrator's ability to get the different accents and genders down to a tee.

Second Listen

I've listened to all 8 books. This is my second listen to Outlander, just as good as the first. Will forever love this book! Next up, listen to book two again. And, read the actual book. Can't wait!

Astounding!

Truly one of the best books I have ever read and the narrator was absolutely fabulous! The story never slows or becomes stale. If I could give it 100 stars I would!

I totally loved it although I don't see the need for so many sex scenes.

The beginning of a wonderful series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This series has everything! History, romance, unforgettable characters...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jamie and Clair are the characters that the story revolves around and by the end of the book you know them so well you don't want their story to end.

Which scene was your favorite?

To pick one scene as a favorite... there are far too many to choose just one!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It is far too long to listen to in one sitting unless you're going for a long drive across country!!!

Any additional comments?

Once you start this series you are going to want to get all of them. Diana Gabaldon is an incredible story teller... you'll want them to go on and on and on....

Amazing Series

Where does Outlander rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Definitely one of the top. The size of the books have put me off reading them for a long time so the audiobooks are a godsend.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Claire. She's just such a fascinating, strong character.

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Just watch the show on Starz.

Any additional comments?

Great book and very well read.

Glad I'd Seen the Show First

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - If you, like me, can't seem to find time anymore to sit and read a novel of this magnitude.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Davina Porter?

Someone a bit less dramatic. The clipped narration I suppose is quite British but iI find it distracting.

Any additional comments?

I'm glad I'd seen the TV adaptation starring Catriona Balfe, because the narrator conjures an image of Judy Dench. No offense to Miss Dench, but this narrator's voice and dramatic inflection makes Claire sound like a much older woman.
