Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

wonderful read!

Breathtaking story of love; what it is and what it isn't. Of finding courage, facing danger, facing fear, and of discovery of one's true self. while experiencing all that through time, history, and perilous journey. Extremely well developed characters, full bodied, courageous, fearful, jelous, devoted, unsure, lovable and not; all that we are as human beings. The narration is superb; top drawer performance! the story itself is spectacularly written! I highly recommend this book! Find a quiet place and absorb.

Loved it

I’ve read all the books in this series and was hesitant to listen to it. I didn’t want the narrator to change the magic of the characters. The opposite happened. An author and a story that has captured my heart was enhanced by a narrator who brought it all alive. Her reading of each character was done perfectly. Can’t wait to listen to the next 7 books.

I Keep Going Back to It...

Where does Outlander rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Probably in the top 3. (The others are Outlander novels, so you know....)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Outlander?

What about this story ISN'T great? I will reread this multiple times in my life, guaranteed.

However, if I had to choose a moment, it's when Claire chooses to stay in the past.

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Hands down, Porter is the greatest narrator of all time, forever and ever, amen.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It just makes me forget about everything, like I am actually living the book.

Any additional comments?

Get it. You won't regret it. Also, the romance is delicious.

LOVE THIS BOOK!

If you could sum up Outlander in three words, what would they be?

ROMANTIC
HEART-WRENCHING
MASTERPIECE

What was one of the most memorable moments of Outlander?

It is hard to pick the most memorable moment, because there are so many, but one that comes immediately to mind is when Claire finally made the decision to stay in the 18th century with Jamie once and for all.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

Ultimately, my favorite was Claire. She is such a strong, brave woman. Honest and real. Davina's performance really brought her to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Time-traveling, star-crossed, epic romance

Listened several times

I started reading /listening because I watched the tv show. The show is great but the books (all of them) are even better. I have gone back and read them and listened to them again realizing that I missed some details that factor in later in the series. The narrator's voice is perfect for these books. You can increase the speed and still flows well. For a warning to new readers: yes, there's bad language (British) along with detailed sex and violence but it fits well in the story. These books are for both male and female readers (better yet read them with your spouse).

Starts slow but keep listening!

I almost put it away to start another story after the first 30-60 minutes but the story picks up to be absolutely gripping. Towards the end it includes sensitive subjects though that are not for the sympathetic or faint of heart. The reader is extremely skilled but the record quality is somewhat lacking (indistinct voices can be hear in the background at times).
