Their blissful reunion is shattered when she touches a boulder in an ancient stone ruin and is instantly transported to 1743 Scotland, a place torn by war and raiding border clans. Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Wow. I could read this again and again.

If you could sum up Outlander in three words, what would they be?

Sexy. Action. Heart-wrenching.

Any additional comments?

While I love the story and Davina's narration... Throughout the entire book it sounds like there is someone talking in the background. I listened to the book in my car, out for walks, at home, at work (pretty much anywhere I could!) and most often I was completely alone-- yet I always heard someone talking that wasn't Davina. It sounds like someone was talking in the studio behind her. Very distracting and annoying! It's a good thing the story is good enough to overlook this annoying quirk of the recording.

Romance and action

I am not usually fond of romance, but this book is great. It has lots of action, character development, and plot. Its plot moves well without so many characters that a listen gets confusing. Can't wait to start the next book.

ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT

I Don't know how else to describe this experience other than ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT.
As other reviewers state this book starts out slow, it revs up and keeps going and going until the end. One night I stayed up until 5am listening because I just couldn't wait to hear what happens next! The fastest 32 hours in my life were those listening to this book.

No, I have not. I really enjoyed listening.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. It made me both laugh and cry several times. I enjoyed the narration very much.

HISTORICAL HARLEQUINY SCI-FI-ish

There's a bit of time travel but that's about all the sci-fi this book has to offer. It gets very "Harlequiny" after that. Great build of protagonist and clever build on tbe antagonist, (although I thought the heroine spent an inordinate amount of time getting her tops ripped off) The author REALLY likes the Scotish folk. Good LOOOOOOOOOONG read.

Best Series ever written

The Outlander series is, hands down, the best series I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. My first encounter with this addicting series was read in book form. I devoured each book, one-by-one, and fell in love with so many of the characters. Then, I was smart of enough to purchase every unabridged book on Audible.com, and I entered a whole new realm of addiction for a series I didn't think I could love any more than I already did. Davina Porter's narration is top notch. She has made me experience this series in a whole new way, and I'm blessed to get to listen to these books over and over, again. Every time I run into someone else who tells me they have read the Outlander series, I tell them to LISTEN to it now. I pray The Fiery Cross becomes available in unabridged form and with Davina narrating it. Do not let this series pass you by. It will be one of your life-long favorites.

The poetry of Scotland

Diana Gabaldon's poetic descriptions of life, love, heartache, beauty, and austere olden times in the Highlands is perfectly narrated by Davina Porter.
