A rogue ruined...

He is the Killer Duke, accused of murdering Mara Lowe on the eve of her wedding. With no memory of that fateful night, Temple has reigned over the darkest of London's corners for twelve years, wealthy and powerful, but beyond redemption. Until one night, Mara resurfaces, offering the one thing he's dreamed of . . . absolution.

A lady returned . . .

Mara planned never to return to the world from which she'd run, but when her brother falls deep into debt at Temple's exclusive casino, she has no choice but to offer Temple a trade that ends in her returning to society and proving to the world what only she knows...that he is no killer.

A scandal revealed . . .

It's a fine trade, until Temple realizes that the lady and her past are more than they seem. It will take every bit of his strength to resist the pull of this mysterious, maddening woman who seems willing to risk everything for honor...and to keep from putting himself on the line for love.

    "Fallen Angels WOW!"
What made the experience of listening to No Good Duke Goes Unpunished the most enjoyable?

I really like the hero and heroine. They're gorgeous, good and kind, sexy, attractive -- and so flawed and proud. This was an engaging story from start to finish with well drawn characters, a really interesting storyline, enough steamy sex to keep it interesting and integrated into the plot not just thrown in for the heck of it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Temple for his physical attractiveness, kindness, and intelligence. The heroine, Mara, runs a close second. I also really liked Lavender, the piglet, -- a nice touch. I like that I don't feel frustrated with this author about either one or both of them being ninnies about their feelings for each other. Some romance authors take their H/H denial about their feelings too far, causing this reader a high level of frustration for having to deal with what at first seemed to be an attractive, intelligent adult into a seeming half-wit about their mutual attraction. This can result in either a low rating of the story or a return if I can't finish it.

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Rosalyn Landor is one the best female historical romance narrator to be found. I look for books she's narrated. Her accents are always so well done, and although there's not a big variation between her male and female characters, I never get confused about the gender. She is five stars for me every time.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I feel good getting in touch with the characters who make this book such an enjoyable story. The scene descriptions make one feel a part of the action. I absolutely fell for Temple. Wow, what a man.

    Any additional comments?

This is the third equally entertaining listen in this three (so far) volume series I found the heroes, i.e., "fallen angels,' consistently hot, handsome, sexy, smart and extremely intriguing due to their flaws and strengths and the stories they're in. Pair them with an equally matched heroine, engaging secondary characters; a sense of time and place; and a plot you want to follow to the end through myriad changes and surprises and I'm hooked! I advise reading them in order, but it won't spoil the experience if you don't. I am anxiously awaiting the next volume. PLEASE say there will be another! . This is a credit worthy listen, of course!

First Thought when Finished: No Good Duke goes Unpunished sealed the deal for me: I need to read more Sarah MacLean!

Book Thoughts: Temple! Temple! Team Temple! If you can't tell I just loved the killer duke to death. He is everything that I expect from my rogueish historical leading men: dastardly, damaged, and a really good friend. I will admit that it took a bit for Mara to prove to me that she was worthy of Temple but boy did she! Her back story was heartbreaking but her gumption was outstanding. Together they made me smile!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Rosalyn Landor/ Length: 12 hrs and 34 mins

Rosalyn is probably one my favorite narrators! I just love her voice and it is perfectly suited for historicals. She just pulls off this series spectacularly well. I totally recommend these on audio!

Final Thoughts: Oh that epilogue *evil grin*

"Couldn't wait for this to be over!"

You know how you wish a good story would never end? Well, this story seemed endless! I couldn't wait for it to be over! The heroine was SO whinny and silly I felt like hitting my head against the wall and shouting: could this woman be any dumber! Really. Don't waste your credit. This book will just make you grind your teeth in anguish!

"Not My Favorite in The Series, But Still Enjoyable"
    Any additional comments?

    3 1/2 Stars!

I listened to this book on Audible, though I do own the ebook as well.

The narrator was lovely, and MacLean's writing style and voice was also lovely.

The story was a bit flat for me. It was simply "okay". I liked it, but nothing really stood out about it after I was done. It was enjoyable while it lasted, but gone as soon as I finished.

I really loved book 2, One Good Earl Deserves a Lover. But the spark, wit, and banter that was so heavy in that book was almost completely MIA in this book. I think that was why I was so disappointed in Temple's book. I missed the fun banter that MacLean gave in the last book. In OGEDAL, I marked up a few dozen passages of favorite quotes. In this one, I marked perhaps 2.

Still, I did like reading the "Killer" Duke's story, and I will of course come back for more books by MacLean. I'm curious about Chase's story next.

    "Questionable Heroine"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Probably

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    Made the heroine stronger.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?

    No question - Temple!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Not necessarily

    Any additional comments?

At first I wanted to return the book because I thought the heroine was so weak and lacked a sense of responsibility. She redeemed herself eventually, but it was too long in coming.

    "Too much unexplained."

I had such high hopes for the next book in this series and although the storyline was very promising, there were too many unexplained issues. There is no mention of how or why Temple was presumed to be the "Killer Duke" when there was a lot of blood, but no body. There is nothing at all mentioned about what or how he would have disposed of the body. No rumors of throwing it off a cliff with him staggering back to her bed chamber or chopping it up (I know that's gruesome) - nothing. This book doesn't address the "body" in one sentence which just doesn't make sense. I would have expected to see that the ton rumored that he did something with the body - but there was nothing.

Also, what happened to Temple's fathers previous 3 wives??? Mara was to be his 4th wife. Maybe Temple's father was the real "Killer Duke" and the ton could have said that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Something!

I also didn't understand how Mara could ask or force Temple to pay her to be with him when he really and truly held all the cards (so to speak). I listened to the paragraphs in the book where Temple and Mara discussed their bargain several times and I simply never understood how she could ask Temple to pay her or why he agreed to these outrageous terms. He could have just marched her out into society without any explanation to her or anyone else, but instead he ended up having to pay her to be with him??? Very confusing.

I would have really liked this book if these few issues could have been explained. I did like the story of him being a boxer and I liked the interactions between the two characters, but there are several issues with this book that I just cannot understand.

The tip we've received to the beginning of Chase's story sounds very intriguing. I hope Ms. McLean puts a bit more thought into Chase's story because it will be tough to pull it off and make convincing after all of the interactions between Chase and the other three scoundrels.

Would you try another book from Sarah MacLean and/or Rosalyn Landor?

No. However, I did enjoyed A Rogue by Any Other Name.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Rosalyn Landor?

Rosalyn Landor is the best. I love her voice.

    "Refreshing Plot! Risky character development."
Would you consider the audio edition of No Good Duke Goes Unpunished to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version but Landor does such a great job, I'd bet the audio is better!

What was one of the most memorable moments of No Good Duke Goes Unpunished?

When the heroine approaches Temple in the streets at night.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Very consistent. Good stuff! Male voices are not much differentiated among the minor characters, though….except for children.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All moments when the characters were torn between current attraction and past resentment.

    Any additional comments?

I might have liked the heroine's reason for tricking Temple to be justified/explained a little sooner. It was hard to like her…what she had done seemed unforgivable and an indication that she was not a good person.

    "Great Series!"

This is a great series! Loved it. Strong Heroine and Hero. Great story and plot, lots of witty dialogue, hot and steamy sex. All the ingredients for a great book. A must read or listen series. I read along on my kindle.
    Read/Listen to them all:
A Rogue by any Other Name- The Rules of Scoundrels Book 1
One Good Earl Deserves Another- The Rules of Scoundrels Book 2
No Good Duke Goes Unpunished- The Rules of Scoundrels Book 3

I am so looking forward to Book 4!

    The narration is decent enough.

Credit Worthy? Yes all of them are!
