"If you love Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel, then boy, is this the book for you...original and complex...the characters are unforgettable and the action thrilling." (Romantic Times)
I own the whole paper back series. I just had to have the audio series so I can listen to it while I am at work. It is worth the money! If you are a person who loves "vampires" and mystery...this is your type of series. Please note that there is some sexual content in these series. I personally wouldn't allow a young teen (12-15) to read this series because of the sexual content. We all know that kids will see/read it somewhere else though. My advice to the parents is check out the book first before letting a younger teen read it--just to make sure you approve of the material. I have gotten several of my co-workers addicted to the series! Don't have to read them in order, but it makes more sense if you do.
I have listened to or read most of this series, and resisted this book because of all the negative reviews. I started the series with book 4, Zarek???s story. I must say I don???t really understand all the negative reviews at all. If you are new to the series this is a good start, as it gives a good background on the Dark Hunters, Appolites, and Daimons. This is a fantasy romance and has some steamy love scenes, I wouldn???t call them soft-core porn as some other???s have suggested, but they are descriptive, so if you are not into that in your romance books, maybe this series is not for you. I totally got the instant connection between Kyrian and Amanda they are soul mate. I???ve read enough romance novels to know, when soul mates meet the connection is instant and unexplained, I don???t need some grand gesture to accept it. I liked the narrator, although my favorite narrators of the series are Fred Berman and Holter Graham, I didn???t mind this narrator at all. This is not my favorite of the series, but I did enjoy this offering and I wish I had not let negative reviews deter me for so long.
I am half-way through this book and I cannot BELIEVE how absurd it is, just sex no substance or storyline whatsoever. Why do some female writers believe all men are walking hard-ons?? Seriously, I read LOTS of fantasy and sci-fi, and this is just cheesy porn, AWFUL. "Made sweet love to her with his hand"?? REALLY!? Is this written for hormonal tweens? I have never rolled my eyes this much. And the narration...just awful. If your going to write porn at least get someone with a somewhat sexy voice! I'd rather listen to my mother read this to me. PASS
Not a bad book. Not very thought provoking, but I would say it was worth the credit. Male protagonist was definetely more enjoyable than the female character as she could be a bit annoying and (once again...yawn)her own worst enemy. Why is it that a strong woman must always be portrayed as stupid? She must always barrel a pathway into danger (which of course she never saw coming even though she is sooo intelligent) only to be rescued by the sexually enticing male lead who saves her at the last moment and they both awaken to realize that they were always meant for each other. Sound familiar? Well, there's the book.
I enjoyed the book but found I couldn't stand the way the narrator did Amanda's voice. And Kyrian's accent was horrible. I recommend listening to all the books read by Holter Graham and Fred Berman and get the paperbacks for all the rest.
This book, was quite trite. Although I can put up with that, the narrator has definitely made me quit listening to this series. A southern accent doesn't have to sound breathless constantly. It could have been good . . .
Predictable storyline...I can live with that. But Amanda's cheesy southern drawl made me laugh out loud...to the point it distracted me from the story. It made her sound like a complete idiot who stumbled on the means to save her lover.....can't blame her for that...those sex scenes were hot! Overall, should be listed as a comedy.
I really liked the book, but I was sad to find out after I had listened to the book that it is not the first book in the series. The first book is call: Fantasy Lover, and it's about Julian of Macedon and Grace. But I don't think Audible has this book. I just wanted to warn you all. Night Pleasures is a great book and I highly recommend it, I just wish Audible had Fantasy Lover as well.
Am a fan of Laurell K Hamilton and Sherrily Kenyon was recommneded for Hamilton fans. Now I'm really into it and I like the fact that each Dark Hunter book focusses on a new Dark Hunter, so avoids repetition. Narrator also a did a bang-up job of making me fall in love with the characters.
I read this book a couple years ago and really got into the characters, story and all the nuances of the hurts, pains, pleasure, passion and more. When I saw that Ms. Carrington MacDuffie was the narrator I knew I had to listen to it and I was well rewarded! I have recently discovered Ms. MacDuffie and find that she knows when something should be "dry", "whispered" or otherwise instead of just reading like an automaton therefore doing very well by the characters and their story; unlike some other narrations. I hope Ms. Kenyon is as pleased with her narration of Night Pleasures as I am. Ms. Kenyon has such savvy and wit in her writings and to have it live on in the narration is a true and simple pleasure to enjoy. I was so sorry to have it end. I only wish Ms. MacDuffie would have read Fantasy Lover also by Ms. Kenyon. That would have been a true treat with all its warmth and humor. I truly hope you find the enjoyment of this audible.com book as I have.
