Love in vein: listen to another Dark-Hunter novel.

"If you love Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel, then boy, is this the book for you...original and complex...the characters are unforgettable and the action thrilling." (Romantic Times)
I listen to audio books because I love stories but my ADD doesn't allow me to sit down to read.
I like the weapons.
Her accents are clear & her characters are distinctively clear.
I laughed out loud at a few parts. I like the smart add wit. However I would like the story better if it left out some of the sex.
I'm not into erotica books. I like these vampire/dark hunter/greek god stories but I can do without all the sex.
Book & History Enthusiast
I love Sherrilyn's books and especially love listening to them at work. I'm really glad that I started with books that were narrated by Holter Graham or Fred Berman because if I had started with this one, I'm not positive I would have bought another audio book. Carrington's narration, especially with her long drawn out far too sweet southern accent, grated on my nerves. Amanda was far from a "Southern Bell" but that's how Carrington made her sound. One can be born and raised in the deep south and not sound like Scarlet O'Hara! Fortunately the story line won out for me, I persevered through the cavity inducing southern accent and enjoyed the story overall. I may avoid Carrington's narrations of Sherrilyn's other books if she does more of them. Give me Fred Berman or Holter Graham any day!
The narrator, while having a pleasant enough speaking voice, made me want to grind my teeth every time she attempted a New Orleans/Southern accent. I grew up in the south in a southern family with southern friends, including some from New Orleans, and the only time I've heard a accent that bad was when somebody's telling a joke where a southerner is the butt. Ms MacDuffie may be an excellent narrator for some work, but she should avoid works where a southern accent is required.
I looked at this book because I enjoyed the Chronicles of Nick series, which I found out was a spin off of the Night-Hunter series. Hoping to get back stories on the characters from the chronicles, I thought I would listen to this series. At only 1 hour and 20 minutes in, I was so disgusted with the narrator's terrible southern accent and constant repetition of the two main character's appraisal of each other's sexual attributes that I had to quit the book. This is coming from a person who has an OCD that will not let me stop in the middle of a book or series of books. In fact, out of over 200 audio books this is only the second one that I will not be finishing. While I recommend the Chronicles of Nick spin off series, I warn others to save their credits for something else.
Yes/ and only because I don't have a choice in Narrators for audio books.
I fell in love Ms. Kenyon's work with the Chronicles of Nick series so came here looking for more info about the characters, in particular Kyrain and Acheron. I did not have high expectations for this book after reading the other reviews. Because of this I was pleasantly surprised. The narration is almost as bad as people described however better then I expected. I listen to all books a 1.5 or 2x speed and I think the way the women drolled on at speed 1 would have probably driven me crazy. The other thing that helped was listening to Acheron first. It was really nice learning about so many things that are hinted at in the Chronicles of Nick like the truth about Kyrain's wife and such.
The best thing about the book is the characterization. The characters are witty and compelling
The worst thing for me about the book was all the sex. My wife would never believed I listened to such a "smutt book." I love Urban Fantasy (Jim Butcher is my favorite author of all time) However it sucks to be a man who likes Urban fantasy because 90% of it is Urban Romantic Fantasy and 40% minum of those books seem like nothing more than sex and emotional foreplay.
Next book I intend to listen to is Seize the Night so I can found out the story behind how things went so bad between Acheron and Nick.
I have an audible issue
i started with the teen version of these books and ran out of them so i was looking to see what else Sherrilyn had written. found these and just could not stop getting them. i love the main charators and the side ones are great also. it's one of those worlds i would just like to be in. some of the books in the series don't really apply but they are all good reads. love the narration.
I loved the follow up from Fantasy Lover. The way all of the characters interacted from the previous book made it a wonderful listen. I was constantly saying to myself "Yeah, I remember this or that about that person from before.
I just love the way she does all the different accents.
Loving all things that go bump in the night
Not even a little. Night Pleasures is one of my favorites in the DH series...and I couldn't finish the audio version of it.
Hmm. In this one Kyrian is my favorite, but only because Nick isn't in it as much as I'd like.
Unfortunately, just about anyone else. The accents were too jarring (too sacharine southern for Amanda and Tabitha, I couldn't figure out Kyrian's, and Talon's was just...no.) If I had my greatest wish fulfilled? It would be this one, and Night Embrace to be re-recorded by Holter Graham.
Nope. I couldn't even finish it in several sittings.
This book has been disappointing.I can't think of anyone who would enjoy it.
NO!! What a waste of my book credit!
She sounded like she had something in her mouth, like a piercing. I think she also made it sound as if she despised the main female character as much as I have.
I purchased 3 of the Dark-Hunter series when there was a special and this was the 3rd one for me. I have to say that I found the frequent, graphic sex scenes to be distracting and the plot line to be thin. There are so many in this series that I thought that maybe I would get into the stories eventually, but I never really did. Sorry, but I rate this as just "Ok."
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
I thought the sex was overdone. It was not germaine to the story in my opinion. I love a book when the characters are well-developed and the sexual scenes leave you to your imagination. I am not interested in continuing on with the series. I'm not sorry I tried the book on the 3 for 2 credits.I do recommend you either use headphones or if listening in your car... make sure your windows are rolled up. Nothing worse than sitting at a red light when the story goes into great detail on a sex scene and your windows are down. Might have made someone's day though!
