Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole continues her electrifying Immortals After Dark series with this thrilling tale, revealing secrets of the Lore, fierce realm of the immortals....

All fear the enemy of old.

Driven by his insatiable need for revenge, Lothaire, the Lore’s most ruthless vampire, plots to seize the Horde’s crown. But bloodlust and torture have left him on the brink of madness - until he finds Elizabeth Peirce, the key to his victory. He captures the unique young mortal, intending to offer up her very soul in exchange for power, yet Elizabeth soothes his tormented mind and awakens within him emotions Lothaire believed he could no longer experience.

A deadly force dwells within her.

Growing up in desperate poverty, Ellie Peirce yearned for a better life, never imagining she’d be convicted of murder - or that an evil immortal would abduct her from death row. But Lothaire is no savior, as he himself plans to sacrifice Ellie in one month’s time. And yet the vampire seems to ache for her touch, showering her with wealth and sexual pleasure. In a bid to save her soul, Ellie surrenders her body to the wicked vampire, while vowing to protect her heart.

Centuries of cold indifference shattered.

Elizabeth tempts Lothaire beyond reason, as only his fated mate could. As the month draws to a close, he must choose between a millennia-old blood vendetta and his irresistible prisoner. Will Lothaire succumb to the miseries of his past - or risk everything for a future with her?

Addictive world of the Lore!

I totally cried when Lothaire mistreated Elie. However I wish the story goes a little further in their lives, especially in subsequent parallel storylines.

Not as bad as he tries to be

What made the experience of listening to Lothaire the most enjoyable?

The narrator, he does a very good job with the story and the male characters, but makes me laugh when he does the female characters. But, he stays true to the book and makes it come alive.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lothaire because I knew there was something good inside of him, even when he tried to push it away. I always thought that he would be good with Nix, and in a way he was. I loved the part when he protected Nix while she slept.

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Ellie even though Petkoff sound made me laugh, but it still worked. She was still down to earth and strong and never gave up on anyone.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It did frustrated me when Ellie kept trying and Lothaire wouldn't listen to her. I was glad when Saroya was gone; she was so obnoxious and calculating that I thought she would never go away.

Way to go Vamerellie!

Finally a cinderellaesque tale that has Cinderella kicking her psychotic prince not so charming in the ass. There are things in this book that will make laugh unexpectedly and endear a stuck snob and wise cracking mountain woman to your soul.

I love all the IAD series, but Lothaire is just my favorite. The story of him and his bride just really entertains me every time I listen to it.

The last vampire I expected to fall in love with.

Awesome story. Favorite part was towards the end when he won Eli back, and learning about the relationship between him and Nix.
