Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole continues her electrifying Immortals After Dark series with this thrilling tale, revealing secrets of the Lore, fierce realm of the immortals....

All fear the enemy of old.

Driven by his insatiable need for revenge, Lothaire, the Lore’s most ruthless vampire, plots to seize the Horde’s crown. But bloodlust and torture have left him on the brink of madness - until he finds Elizabeth Peirce, the key to his victory. He captures the unique young mortal, intending to offer up her very soul in exchange for power, yet Elizabeth soothes his tormented mind and awakens within him emotions Lothaire believed he could no longer experience.

A deadly force dwells within her.

Growing up in desperate poverty, Ellie Peirce yearned for a better life, never imagining she’d be convicted of murder - or that an evil immortal would abduct her from death row. But Lothaire is no savior, as he himself plans to sacrifice Ellie in one month’s time. And yet the vampire seems to ache for her touch, showering her with wealth and sexual pleasure. In a bid to save her soul, Ellie surrenders her body to the wicked vampire, while vowing to protect her heart.

Centuries of cold indifference shattered.

Elizabeth tempts Lothaire beyond reason, as only his fated mate could. As the month draws to a close, he must choose between a millennia-old blood vendetta and his irresistible prisoner. Will Lothaire succumb to the miseries of his past - or risk everything for a future with her?

The best in the series.

If you could sum up Lothaire: Immortals After Dark, Book 12 in three words, what would they be?

Lothaire and Elizabeth are very fleshed out as characters. They have dimensions and they brought realism to this world. There's friction, there's chemistry, there's personality, and there's attraction. Excellent Read!

An extremely engaging tale!

I loved the pathos of Lothaire's character, and
the change of his future by the simply-raised, strong-willed Ellie.
Petkoff is a favorite narrator of mine after this, too!!

Exciting and sexy with just a hint of bad boy.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Robert does such a good job with the accents that combined with the careful wording from Kresley you forget you are listening to a story and can 'see' the characters interactions in your head. You can feel empathy for both sides which is not often the case in books. This is one that both sexes can enjoy if they put their minds free of stereo types and just listen to a good story. Excellent work on mood, setting, character development, and creating a world so like our that we can believe it yet different that we can loose ourselves in it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lothaire?

When he thinks he will be forced to live on the mountain forever with he hillbilly relatives.....the horror and terror perhaps utter revulsion........I can relate.......There are some family members you can't wait to grow up so you can avoid......

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A sexy deep resonating voice that can change on the spot to sound like any other person no mater the age or sex. You can always hear the timber of his voice pure and clear behind it , but it didn't change the fact the accent and the pitch were much different. His Russian accent is the first time I ever stopped to listen to one and found it sexy. He made Lothaire sexy. He brought all the characters to life, especially Lothaire. Over all the best male voice I have heard to date for a novel. Amazing job with the Amazons and the hillbillies too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes and i did...... stayed up all night while my kids slept when I knew i would get peace when i had a day off the next day and they were at school.... was saving it for while they were at school but got caught up and just forgot to stop....

Any additional comments?

LilyElement Book Reviews - Lothaire

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

The narrator, Robert Petkoff, did an incredible job. He handled Lothair's Russian accent with ease. I will admit he handled Ellie's voice perfectly but I didn't care for her thick country twang. That's a personal preference showing, not his fault. It did slowly grow on me, but it took probably half of the book. I loved the narration and will be listening to other books in this series. I'd also like to note, I've previously never made it through a solely male narrated book, Robert Petkoff is awesome.

Any additional comments?

Lothaire the Enemy of Old is a vampire that is hellbent on finding his bride. Not accepting the young hillbilly that he finds instead, he waits a few years then goes back to spy on her. What he finds in her place is a vampire goddess that possessed her body. Ellie Peirce, the human in question occasionally gets hijacked of her body by a crazy vampire goddess that likes to go on killing sprees. She winds up in prison due to one of those killing sprees. Lothaire rescues and kidnaps Ellie after a few more years pass. His mission is to find a ring that will grant wishes. His first wish is going to get rid of Ellie so the evil vampire goddess can come out and play full time.

I know, you're thinking, what a jerk, how can this be a romance novel? Well, it does show Lothaire's backstory, which gets you emotional hopeful of the jerk. He had a horrible childhood, and when I mean horrible, I mean 10x worse than you're thinking. He's basically raised himself, and learned that he can trust no one. He's convinced that fate would not bestow him a human bride due to him having such a rough life. He starts out treating Ellie pretty badly. It slowly morphs, but by that time, I was worried they wouldn't be able to forgive and forget.

KCole is an evil genius. I never though I'd enjoy a book with a villain as the love interest and the leading lady an Appalachian mountain girl. But I did love it, and though I wanted to shake Lothaire quite a few times, I understood why he acted the way he did. I love this world, and glad I got reacquainted with it after a long pause, I plan on listening to the next book ASAP. I would suggest reading these in order, there are some references from previous books. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for a paranormal romance with a hunky alpha male.

I have been waiting for Lothaires story forever.

I loved it! splendid writing and an amazing narration! I don't want to give anything away, so, I'll keep it short. I knew all the Koreans had horrible pasts, but man. Lothaires definitely takes the cake, frosting and cherry.

Silly Voices

I liked the story it was sexy and fun, but the voices made the situations silly. The voice the reader used for Elle made her seem ignorant and Lothaire’s accent was comical.
