Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole continues her electrifying Immortals After Dark series with this thrilling tale, revealing secrets of the Lore, fierce realm of the immortals....

All fear the enemy of old.

Driven by his insatiable need for revenge, Lothaire, the Lore’s most ruthless vampire, plots to seize the Horde’s crown. But bloodlust and torture have left him on the brink of madness - until he finds Elizabeth Peirce, the key to his victory. He captures the unique young mortal, intending to offer up her very soul in exchange for power, yet Elizabeth soothes his tormented mind and awakens within him emotions Lothaire believed he could no longer experience.

A deadly force dwells within her.

Growing up in desperate poverty, Ellie Peirce yearned for a better life, never imagining she’d be convicted of murder - or that an evil immortal would abduct her from death row. But Lothaire is no savior, as he himself plans to sacrifice Ellie in one month’s time. And yet the vampire seems to ache for her touch, showering her with wealth and sexual pleasure. In a bid to save her soul, Ellie surrenders her body to the wicked vampire, while vowing to protect her heart.

Centuries of cold indifference shattered.

Elizabeth tempts Lothaire beyond reason, as only his fated mate could. As the month draws to a close, he must choose between a millennia-old blood vendetta and his irresistible prisoner. Will Lothaire succumb to the miseries of his past - or risk everything for a future with her?

All Hail The Enemy of Old

I have been waiting for Lothaire's story & was so excited that I was not let down. I wanted certain things & had ideas about how the story line should go. Lothaire has been one of my favorite characters from the IAD series (as well as Nix) through the entire series & I have just been dying to get his full story. While it was not what I had expected or really even predicted the story was fabulous and while it was heartbreaking at times, it was the same laugh out loud Kresley Cole that I love! I am a huge fan of her work and I can't wait for Nix's story.

Lothaire has been in all the previous books in the series, this time the love story is epic because it ends up redeeming a character that was thought to be irredeemable. The almost insane vampire falls head over fangs for a woman possessed. One thing that surprised me the most was how romantic and sweet Lothaire ended up being, Despite the blood thirsty nature of Lothaire and the initial villain, Soroya, the book wasn't nearly as dark and depressing as it could have been. In fact, it was full of warped humor, funny dialogue between Lothaire and Elizabeth and amazing loving, once they got to that point.

The story is told in Lothaire's point of view and Elizabeth's. My favorite is the hero's because finally I got to understand what formed him, drove him, warped him and tortured him. The relationship between Lothaire and Elizabeth is contentious. She likes to talk, he doesn't. She wants to understand, he doesn't feel the need to explain himself. He commands, she butts heads. He expects her to turn her back on her past, and she fights to keep it and grab for more. There is so much internal angst and yet the author handled it so well, it was entertaining and fascinating. I especially got a kick out of the scenes with the sword, the head, the heart and the finger and the ornery dog. How they make this story great has to be read to be understood. It was awesome. I was equally horrified and snorting with shocked humor. Ms. Cole's characters sure know how to make a statement.

All in all... perfect audiobook & the perfectly imperfect hero.

Robert Petkoff gives an amazing performance for this book and the rest of the IAD series books. His performance is so outstanding that I feel like I'm watching a movie in my head. I want to read anything that Robert Petkoff narrators. He makes the story so exciting that I feel like I'm on the edge of my seat for the whole book. As much as I'm a fan of Kresley Cole i'm also a huge fan of the narration. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!

worth the listen

Have read all the other books in this series, and still interested in the ongoing story. Wasn't disappointed in this book, which was very refreshing, since I have been let down by so many other series novels lately. This book is based around Lothaire, and acquiring his Bride, but really gives a lot of background explaining what makes him tick. Nix plays a role in this book, as she has the others, which gives us more information on the assention.
I just love the Valkeryie anyway. The narration could have been better, Lothaire sounded very old, compared to Elizabeth, but I got used to it. All and all, was still an interesting ongoing story in the series, so looking forward to the next.

POWER, PASSION, PRIDE AND INTENSITY

Would you consider the audio edition of Lothaire to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version, but if the audio is anything to go by, the print in my opinion would pale in comparison, but I was sold hook line and sinker on the audio because Robert Petkoff did justice in bringing this book alive and carried you to places you wouldn't have imagined possible with his narrating skills. His character voices are very sexy, touching you in all the right places, spurning you when it gets contentious then delivers that balance to every character and leaves you spent wanting more. He takes you on an intense ride. Guaranteed!

What did you like best about this story?

Elizabeth's street smart or mountain-smarts and her determination to rival for Lothaire's love, bringing him back from his near insanity and showing him true happiness.

Which scene was your favorite?

I have no particular because i was lost in the development of each plot.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are several, but to mention 3: (1) I was moved when Elizabeth seemed doomed to die, (2) Lothaire's sensitivity to Elizabeth's virginity and a desire to take care of her and (3) Elizabeth being turned out of Nicks sanctuary to fend for herself when Lothaire seemed unconcerned for her well being because of unspoken shared feelings.

Any additional comments?

Robert Petkoff brought this book to life. It was like a movie without the picture and he totally rocked it. He is a GREAT NARRATOR. You get lost in his intensity and he delivered an orgasmic performance. He has become one of my favorite narrators.

I dont have any one single character except maybe Nix.

Lothaire is hot! hot! hot!

If you could sum up Lothaire in three words, what would they be?

Intense, sexy, irresistible!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lothaire?

When Lothaire said his heart doesn't work without her.

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love Robert Petkoff! He's the best narrator, by far, I've come across in any audio book. His acting skills are well demonstrated in his readings. He expertly conveys a lot of the emotions of the characters and brings them to life. His readings have made me laugh and cry.

Any additional comments?

This is my favorite book of all the Kresley Cole audio books.

Omg, this book in series was hilarious!!

So, first bravo to Rob Petkoff! The hillbilly/redneck stereotype heroine accent is done perfectly. At first, I was not sure I could listen to the whole book, Ellie's accent was annoying. But I'm glad I did, because Ellie really grew on me! A true, strong, principled women. I was laughing so hard throughout this book, my stomach hurt. The chemistry between Lothaire and Ellie is great. Robert's narration is as good as always!
