Love to read and I am really enjoying audible. Fantasy and sci fi are my faves but I also enjoy period novels and historical fiction.
Rest of the storyline and story telling was good the lead female was supposed to be tough and independent just came off as bitchy and stupid. He says don't go out alone you have no idea how dangerous this black magic is. She says oh yeah? Don't tell me what to do I'm a bad ass cop. She sneaks off alone and of course gets caught and hurt. Rinse repeat. And he falls madly in love with her. Why exactly? She is arrogant judge mental and rude and mostly irresponsible and rude.
Sydney is a sassy spitfired detective from Philadelphia who has a mouth on her that would make any sailor proud! Kade is a sexy Alpha vampire from New Orleans who has made the trip to Philly to help investigate the murders.
When it becomes obvious that hints of magic are involved in the deaths, Kade soon realizes it is someone from his past. When Sydney gets attacked at her home, Kade takes her to his home in NOLA to keep her safe. Kade must enlist all of his allies to find Simone before too many more people have to die.
I absolutely loved hearing this on audio! It reminded me why I fell in love with The Immortals of New Orleans and Kym Grosso!
Ryan West did an amazing job narrating this! I am starting on Logan's book next and cannot wait to hear him on it!
This book had no redeeming features. The main character is shallow and less than intelligent. The main supporting character is a stereotype. The narrator is absolutely the worse I have ever heard. I didn't even finish the book.
I would cut all characters and ask Kym to start all over again.
Not only would I recommend this audiobook I already have!! This book has everything a Paranorm reader is looking for. Vamps, Wolves, Witches an OMG hot sex.
Id have to say my favorite part of this story is the first bar scene....I loved the way Sydney was able to blend right in an fight of an attacker and then the scene on the dance floor was very very hot.
Yes...I really really liked his character voice's in this book compared to the last one of his audibles I listened to. He really did an amazing job with the different accents. His Luca accent is amazing!!!
Oh yes!! and I would have if I didn't have to sleep. This is my favorite thing about audiobooks I can still cook, clean, do laundry & walk the dogs all while enjoying the story.
Kym Grosso has done a very good thing for her readers by putting The Immortals of New Orleans on audio.....it doesnt get any hotter then having these stories read to you by a man with a very sexy voice. Well done Kym...very well done.
You get used to the pattern in this book. Heroine does something incredibly stupid, pisses off handsome vampire. He saves her. He explains that he owns her. She melts. They have sex. Then the cycle starts over. Then there is the narrator who whispers the entire book, which doesn't really make action scenes sound like there's really anything going on. Such a shame - it sounded like it was going to be a really good series, but I'm not going to waste anymore time or credits on this.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was an alright story. I liked Kade but I have to admit that Sydney left a lot to be desired.
Sydney is a police detective that lives in Philadelphia. She considers herself to be a strong and independant woman that can take care of herself and is sure she'll never need to rely on anyone. Sydney sleeps around when she's horny but because of her job, she never plans to settle down and have a serious relationship.
Kade is a Vampire who's very old and controls all the supernatural beings in the New Orleans area (Vampires and shifters are "out" in this world). He is a good guy and although he's had a few lovers in his life, he's never found anyone that made him want something permanent. He frequently indulges in sex when he feeds (with willing women) but it getting tired of the meaningless encounters.
Kade is called to Philadelphia by his friend Tristan because there seems to be some trouble in the city. Tristan and Kade have been friends for a long time and so when some rogue vampire activity surfaces in conjunction with black magic, Tristan calls Kade in because it seems to have ties to Kade's past. Kade shows up just as the body of a young woman is found and when it seems that she was part of a dark ritual, Kade takes control of the investigation. Sydney is one of the detectives called in to examine the body and she bristles at the thought of the supernatural authorities taking over her case and makes her displeasure known (a lot). She pushes to stay on the case and because there's a strong attraction between her and Kade, he allows her to work with him because she interests him. Sydney is determined to ignore the attraction, even to the point of going to have sex with someone else in order to try to slate her lust for Kade (uhg!).
They start to work together but main problem ends up being that because Sydney is a cop and deals with danger frequently, she's determined that she can take care of herself against any foe...even supernatural ones. This leads to some issues that she barely gets out of alive. Kade's interest in her also brings her to the attention of person behind the killings and she becomes a target. This necessitates Kade needing to keep her with him so he can protect her (even to the point of taking her back to New Orleans with him) but Sydney is still so full of herself that she gets pissed with his "overbearing ways" and she continues to do whatever she wants even if she's putting herself in danger. TBH, Sydney seemed to be more on the selfish side rather than the "strong, independent woman" she portrayed herself as. While she had the ability to handle some threats, she still had the markings of a TSTL heroine who did what she wanted and who cares what was logical or right. Her and Kade do end up falling for each other but even then, she wouldn't accept that her love for Kade could be more important than her job or her condo back home and they end up having some issues to get past before they come to an understanding. They do work things out though and they end the story starting a HEA together.
I had mixed feelings about this story. The story itself was good and I liked Kade but Sydney's attitude and actions had me rolling my eyes pretty consistently throughout the story. She seemed less strong and independant and more obstinate and selfish...but maybe it was just me. Overall, it was a decent story but I don't think I could really recommend it to anyone (thankfully it's a freebie on Amazon and I got the audio version on Audible for only $2 so it wasn't a major loss).
I'm a grad student with very little time to edit reviews because I'm editing research papers. Forgive the typos. They're made with love.
Women Can't do everything. Neither can men. Or vampires.
This heroine gives feminists a bad name... it was painful to watch her go headlong into problem after problem. Why? Because she's a woman and a cop and she just HAS to prove herself. Even when faced with beings more powerful than her both physically and magically, she just plows right into trouble then yells at the man who has to bail her out.
Sigh. I'm too tired to write a review of this. It's just... not credit worthy. Sorry. She's just too annoying.
struggled to finish. the story line was weak and the characters love story development was lacking and rushed. I'm surprised I actually finished it... guess it was because I paid for it.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Wow, what a brilliant start to a brand new series as this has everything a PNR lover should want..... a sexy gorgeous Alpha Vampire Hero and a strong sassy independent Heroine whose instant sexual attraction nicely developed into a tender romance that had some sexy love scenes that were just right. There's a tense plot involving Werewolves, Witches, Mages, revenge, greed, magic and ritualistic murders and a host of interesting secondary characters.
Then, as if that wasn't enough, Ryan West easily tackled every accent needed and brought each character to life so, at all times, you knew exactly who was talking out of the multitude of characters.
Worth a credit? It's well-written, flowed nicely from various POV's, was an addictive 'action in every chapter' listen and the romance was oh so good..... so ABSOLUTELY worth a credit and I can't wait for the next instalment which will be an auto download for me.
really liked this book. about to buy the next one. story and narrator both excellent.
I read the book and loved it, listing to it brought it to life. Kade was wonderful as was the narrator Ryan West.
"Action Packed Vampire Advneture"
I loved the different twists and spins going through out the book it kept you hooked and wanting to know what was going to happen next !!!
I just loved the whole story it was one of adventure, exploration of the unknown as well as battling evil that is around threatening their futures .
I love the smoothness and flow of the way he told the book and also with him saying some of the names and other unusual names you get to hear it how the author want's to be said!! also much more imagination is used when describing some scenes
No i wish i could but listened to it snippets while getting on with daily life !!
"Just didn't do it for me."
I'm not sure if it was the narration or the book on a whole :-( but I found the female lead was annoying and that there was not enough detail in Kades background or in anything to be honest. I love my vampire/ werewolf/ supernatural goings on books but this just didn't cut it for me.
