When adrenaline runs high, so does the force of desire
For Shay Appleton, it's love at first sight when a gorgeous stray dog is brought into the animal shelter where she works. She just knows he'll make a terrific watch dog - and with an abusive ex who won't let go, she needs all the protection she can get. But Shay never suspected that her new pet is actually a trained police K-9 named Bogart - until Bogart's even more gorgeous, human partner shows up on her doorstep.
Officer James Cannon is one tall, strong alpha male who's convinced that Shay stole his dog. But once he gets closer to the suspect, he realizes that this stubborn, independent woman not only needs a guard dog, she needs James as well. It seems that someone from her past is stalking her, and threatening her life. When danger meets desire, will James risk his career and his best friend - to protect the woman who's stolen his heart?

D.D. Ayres is a new author for me but I will be looking for the next book in this series. This was a really good book with lot's of action and a very well done story line. Loved the dog in this story. "Bogart" is a K-9 who fell in love with Shay, who rescued him from being put down. Of course thinking his partner has been stolen James track's them down. Spark's start to fly when he find's them. Jeffrey Kafer did the narration and it was excellent. He is perfect for this kind of book. Sure hope D.D Ayres used him to narrate the next book in this series.
Good Books Don't Promote Violence
I instantly fell in love with Bogart, a police dog who was rescued from a kill shelter by Shay, a warm hearted woman looking for uncomplicated affection and companionship. Hiding from an violent ex, Shay was likable and determined not to let the jerk ruin her life.
I never really warmed up to James, Bogart's human partner who tracked down his missing canine partner and totally jumped to the wrong conclusion. Instead of being professional and respectful, James treated Shay like a criminal. What an ass! While James redeemed himself, it took some of the fun out of the story.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were very likable and you want them to succeed.
The narrator was excellent and there was plenty of romance and steam...waiting for the next one.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
What a great start to a new series - the action kicks off from the start when handsome Cop James finally tracks down his missing K9 Partner Bogart to a secluded cabin and what he also finds there is Shay who's a sassy sexy spitfire. The tension is high and so is the chemistry but neither one will admit it but James' Cop instincts are on high alert because he knows things aren't what they seem...... and everything snowballs from there.
A very entertaining complex plot which quickly developed as two ex's cause grief and mayhem and a strong heroine who is haunted by a tragic past which makes her insecure and vulnerable and she badly needs a Prince to save her...... even if he's got four legs! It's an action-packed exciting thriller with twists, suspense, drama, danger, sex and a romance that gets tested before it's hardly begun.
Constantly changing dual POV's which was good rather than alternating chapter by chapter views and JK's narration made this a very enjoyable listen.
Worth a credit? It was far fetched fiction at it's finest and just what I hoped for and love..... so I've no regrets using a credit on this listen and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next doggie disaster.
Shay does not come across as intelligent or bright. Story had great potential, but Shay reads as a perpetual victim, always jumping to the wrong conclusions. Only finished it due to strong narrator, but that girl got on my last nerve.
Loved the suspense this book had...not usually a fan of dog stories as I hate anything that happens to them but didn't mind this story...all though the heroine in it could have used a bit of slapping around at times .. But I suppose you have to understand when you find out what she been through...
But I loved the main man in this which of course is the dog his owner not too shabby either " I wants me one of each".
Narration was good bit hard at first but you get use to it..
Hope don't have to wait to long for next in this series.
I'm a book lover. I call myself a booky.
To the author Why Why would you make the leading female so f***ing STUPID. I had to force myself to finish this book, because I love the narrator's voice. This wasn't a book that I would have chosen for him to narrate. The lead female KILLED this book for me. So if you don't like a woman running around making a bunch of dangerous decisions for herself and being STUPID especially when the danger is right in front of her face then don't waste your time or credit on this book. I won't continue with this series. : (
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!

Hunky police officer with dog for a partner, who could want more??? well, throw in a damsel in distress and you have a great story.
This is a great story and a new to me Author, who I cannot wait to listen to more of. I liked the concept of building stories around officers and their K-9 partners. Now, there is a novella before this story that is not available on audible (but definitely will when it does), I did not feel like I missed anything by not listening to them in order.
I thought the mystery was well done and there were lots of suspects that I did not guess who some of the things were being done by. I really liked Shay and thought that even after getting the shaft for most of her life, she was strong and independent. I think James was exactly what Shay needed in her life, besides having a dog they both cared for, he has her back and believes her when almost everyone else does not see beyond her past. The ending was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat.
A great read and cannot wait for the next story!
Jeffrey Kafer was great with the delivery of the story.
Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
A feel good kind of book, uncomplicated and enjoyable. The mystery part was pretty straight forward and slight, it was easy to tell who was doing all the bad things. I only think that both Shay's ex and James's ex deserved more than they got. I also liked how Shay didn't let all the crappy things in her life ruin her perspective and still have some spunk. The romance was sweet, I like how James just didn't give up on what he wanted and that Shay wasn't so resistant that she annoyed me. And of course the star of the show was the police dog Bogart. I always like books that have pets in them. I would consider getting the next book in this series if it's on sale. The narrator is sexy and I enjoyed listening to him, he definitely makes listening easy on the ears.
The heroine was so helpless and so self depreciating I almost didn't want to finish the book. It also left out a lot at the end to wrap up the story, it was just kinda over. Maybe it was poor book editing, but I am not sure I can listen to more.
