I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!

    "3.5 Stars Easy listen"

The best selling romance novels will leave you warm and fuzzy. Take us into a world of love and passion, where the characters play out our dreams and fantasies for our delight and satisfaction, which in turn provides us with a longing for more. Intimate Deception had the right recipe for a successful novel, the heroine and hook the author defined was fresh and new. Where Laura Landon left me wanting was the lack of depths and or intimacy she could have brought to her characters. She did not evolve all the potential in Lady Grace and build on the sexual tension or romantic suspense that could have absolutely been there between Lady Grace and Vincent.

    "10 HRS OF LISTENING PLEASURE"

If you are like me and you just love a good Historical/Romances then this one doesn't disappoint.

This book is made up of great characters who have you sympathising over their dilemmas, a good plot that's not your usual 'Rake sees Virgin over ballroom' type, lovely building romance and throw in a couple of baddies, a twist or two and you've got yourself a good listen.

Worth a credit? It is definite YES - but at $9.79 I would just buy it and save your credits for a more expensive book.

    "Deceive, Deceived, REPETITIVE..."

Oh my, I would love to know the word count on Deceive and Deceived. I do believe those words would total over 200 if not more. And I don't believe I am exaggerating. Also, I like a whole lot more dialog, this book had very little dialog in my opinion. The repetitive description of the feelings between the two main characters was just too much. The same thing over and over. I feel like the author couldn't think of anything to write so she would just repeat their feelings and thoughts. I did finish the book, even though I did predict the ending long before the ending. I am not saying the book was bad just annoying with very little dialog. It could have been much better, the plot and story line had so much potential. The narrator I thought did an excellent job and I think that's what kept me listening to the end.

"A mile wide & an inch deep"

It started off good, then it became apparent it was one of THOSE cheap cookie-cutter romance novels where the same lines are repeated over and over and over. The lead characters assuming the worst, constantly whining. Same story, different names & locations, nothing original. Ugh! What a waste of a good credit.

    "Loved! Very funny and sweet!"
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely! When Grace's secret is uncovered I couldn't help but laugh! To me, that type of situation, while not funny if it was happening to me, HILARIOUS to hear about! The relationship was so cute and there where unexpected twists!

    "Enjoyable"

I enjoyed listening to "Intimate Deception", although there were details that seemed unimportant to the story that I felt would have been better without. It being a little different from your average Historical Romance held my interest.

Sarah Coomes gave a good performance, adding to the listening enjoyment. In my opinion the narrator can make make or break a story.

I would recommend this audio to any Historical Romance lover.

"Liked the book, loved the narration.."

What really did it for my in this book was the narration. Ms. Sarah Coomes made me feel the story. I felt Grace's (our heroine) desperation and her griping fears. I felt the deep connection between Vincent and Grace and fell in love with them. This was a great example of how a narration makes a good book come alive and makes you a part of the story. I was very surprised by the twists and turns towards the end of the story. Very unexpected! All in all I highly recommend this book to all historical romance junkies like me :)

    "Poor listening experience"

    Setting: 1858 London
    Genre: Romance
Lady Grace has seen her 6 younger sisters wed to the men of their choosing. Now she wants to avoid marriage to a hypocritical, sanctimonious, perverted man by being able to tell him she's not a virgin. She hopes to return to the country and just run her father's household (but who do you suppose set her up to marry the perv?) Vincent has already lost 2 wives in childbirth and has vowed to never marry and condemn another woman to a similar, agonizing death. Grace goes to a brothel run by a childhood friend to get hooked up with a stranger to take her virginity, Vincent get's conned into doing the job, but then realizes Grace is no prostitute. He also realizes, the next morning, that he failed to take his usual method of birth control (damn that passion!). So the story is about the couple getting beyond the anger, fear, guilt, and despair, to love and their HEA. There are a couple of villains involved.
I wasn't able to get through the entire book. I skipped chapters at a time and didn't lose anything by it. You know how, back in the day, you could watch a soap opera for a while, leave it for a couple of years, and when you watch again not much has changed? Yeah, like that. The author was so heavy handed with the foreshadowing, there wasn't much tension. The characters were one-dimensional. This was a great premise poorly executed.
The narration probably made the whole experience much worse. Vincent sounded constipated, and Grace sounded insipid. Secondary characters, other than male/female pitch, sounded the same. And all of it was overwrought and melodramatic.
This was on sale and it was STILL overpriced.

"Melodramatic, thy name is Laura Landon"

Melodramatic, thy name is Laura Landon. This book was that from the first, not just in characters' backgrounds but also in style and narration. Not always bad, but I found it tiring at times. I had read one other book by Landon before, Silent Revenge - which I returned in great disappointment, unable to handle the outrageous melodrama and overly evil antagonist. I already had this title in my library, so I thought I'd give the author another chance. This one was better, but not by much. It was nearly as melodramatic, and almost more predictable.

She was really redundant about the problems and fears of the main characters. The hero has demons and is terrified of his wife dying. I get it. No need to hammer that in every other chapter -with the same language no less- over and over. And I saw the final "twist" and danger coming miles and miles away, from the first ball attended. Ah well, I did at least like that Grace always held her head high and had the courage to do anything needed, from protecting her sisters and herself, and getting through to Vincent. I can't stand helpless heroines, so this novel beat 'Silent Revenge' on that count. The intimate scenes weren't the best I've heard, some of the lead ups were good, but I just didn't always care much for the authors word choice in the language describing their desire -these phrases were also used again and again with little variation.

Overall, I didn't dislike it outright, but wouldn't listen again. The narrator was inconsistent more often than not, both when switching between narrative and dialogue as well as between characters' voices in dialogue. Even between Grace and Vincent, who you ought to be able to keep straight by gender alone, but that certainly wasn't the case several times. Additionally, when Vincent had his own voice it was always angry and strained (and while his character was often those things, sometimes it was just godawful and inappropriately emoted), so that he talked like he was constantly constipated and in pain. The other incidental male voices of the butler and brothers in law were fine, so I cannot account for the terrible voicing of the hero.

Considering returning the title. I felt like wading through the melodrama and gritting my teeth through the narration wasn't worth it to get to the inevitable and very predictable happily ever after. I will not likely read Landon again. I don't have high hopes for other narrations by Coomes, but I won't write her off without another chance.

This is a must for lovers of historical romances. It has everything, suspense, strong women, handsome men, great dialogue and love, love and more love. I will be looking for more books from this author. The narrator was excellent and did a great job.
