The classic Romeo-and-Juliet story of lovers from hostile backgrounds gets a spin, and passions are heightened by literal animal urges, in this supernatural erotic romance story. Shannon, who’s part puma, is pursued and nearly raped by a pack of vicious werewolves when she’s saved by Anton, an alpha werewolf. The two fall into a sensual tryst but their forbidden love will never be accepted by Anton’s pack, and Anton doesn’t know if he can trust his own canine instincts. G.C. VanCloudts gives a sexy feline performance of this scary sensual audiobook that will arouse primal fears and lusts.
Shannon is a quarter puma but can't shift. She's just a human with a few extra genes. But she knows how dangerous shifters are and now she's their prey, captured by a group of werewolves for a deadly hunt. Then she's rescued by the biggest werewolf of them all. He's the sexiest male she's ever seen - jet-black hair, muscular body, piercing dark eyes and a growl that heats her blood.
Anton’s body responds fervently to Shannon and he vows to protect her with his life - only to discover she's the enemy. As the future alpha of his pack, Anton knows a cat will never be accepted. There'll be hell to pay. But it's mating heat, and he’s about to lose all control to that driving sexual need. His wolf wants her, can smell her desire. There's no way to stop it now - his animal won't be denied.
Reader Advisory: This book contains a violent, graphic near-rape scene that is not for the faint of heart.

Yowza!! This book is even hotter than the first Mating book! I LOVE these wolf shifters...just a bunch of sexy, muscle bound, alpha hotness!---And the storyline is pretty good too. The 'mating heat' is pretty on the nose, but, overall the exchanges between the characters are quite funny and will make you laugh just as much as it will set your ears on fire. Definitely credit worthy in my book.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Well, they do in this Shifter tale so if you're looking for a h h hot paranormal were-shifter romance then look no further because this delivers very sexy scenes by the chapter full. But please read my thoughts at the end of this review.
Shannon who's one fourth Puma and ignorant about the ways of the Shifter world has been kidnapped and hunted by members of the Harris pack of Werewolves and the outcome for her doesn't look good because she's unable to shift to save herself. Then, just as things look hopeless for her, in growls Anton, purebred son of the Harris' Alpha, he's sexy, handsome, honorable and Shannon, despite being a Kitty Cat, surprisingly brought out his protective side and he was determined to hold on to her..... no matter the cost.
It was an enjoyable plot with a few surprises, likeable main and secondary characters, there was sexual chemistry from the start as the Mating Heat takes hold of them both, but treachery led to violence, villains, a near rape scene which was quite disturbing (so be warned) and pack politics. The graphic sex unfortunately got a bit repetitive and I found myself thinking "oh, here we go again" - don't get me wrong, I like ALL genres of romance (including Erotica) but I would have liked a little more conversation and a little less action to satisfy me.
Worth a credit? From the start this was an exciting listen with tender, touching, funny and romantic parts and it was hot hot hot - so, if you like your Shifter romances a little 'tamer' don't buy this. Unfortunately and surprisingly, this was only a 2 book series (written in 2010 & 11) so many of the likeable characters that filled this listen will probably never get their stories told. So, despite the enjoyment factor, and for this reason only, I would have to say that until there's more books to follow on, I wouldn't bother getting into this series as it's alas going nowhere.
i had already liked to story before I went to purchase the audible. G.C. VonCloudts did an amazing narration for this title, Her voice has a scratch-ness to it, perfect for imitating a cat shifter. It was a wonderful read and I believe others will too.
Say something about yourself!
There were parts I didn't totally love (like the instant love and questionable heroine decision making process) - but they neither took me from the story nor detracted from it enough to affect my reading experience.
Another thoroughly enjoyable night of Laurann Dohner!! ;)
Not necessarily, I do love the narrator, but the print version is good as well.
When Shannon and Anton met in the woods and she was trying to climb his body.
The variety of voices that she is able to perform is amazing... Oh and the growly voice she uses for the impassioned moments as Anton.
I laughed and cried in different parts of the book. It is definitely an emotional roller-coaster and well worth reading or listening to many times.
Laurann is a wonderful story teller, and I love the blend of romance and erotica without the trashiness. I love that Shannon has morals though Anton is able to slip under her defenses she keeps her strong moral character intact.
Take a look it's in a book...Reading Rainbow!
Woowza, that is another uber hot read for this series!!! Good lord, warn a gal so she can have a cold shower ready!!!
I love yummy Alpha to be Anton. He is just scrumptious!!! A gal could do worse than a smexy bossy wolf. Sure he was a player before, but once his wolf decides on a mate, all bets are off!!!
Shannon is sweet, if a bit naive. I understand she is fighting deep cat instincts, that is the only reason I did not find her a wimp. She has plenty of sass and gumption, if she could just get those instincts under control.
The narrative is mixed between the two leads, really smooth transitions from one POV to another. You really get into their heads with this style. I think it helps make them more engaging and real to the reader.
I generally enjoyed the story, but feel the animosity is exaggerated. I know they are shifters, but they are human too. How is it okay to just attack some one because they are in your territory. Seriously, you own the supermarket? Every time an new wolf met poor Shannon they threatened to kill her, not a single word spoke, just straight up death threat with no introductions. Sure, that is how things run in a civilized world.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by G. C. VonCloudts, who does a great job. Plenty of variation in the voices and consistency. She has a great tone that lends itself to the material. I loved her energy throughout the read, especially in the naughty bits! I am super thankful she did not take Shannon to a whiny place, she kept her anxious without being nasal. The.The girl gives good voice!
Overall I enjoyed the read, once I set aside the annoyance at the insta-death threats. It was another great book in this little series. I hope we get a HEA for each brother and that yummy cousin!
Love to read!
I enjoyed this book overall (except for the horrible almost rape scene). I liked the main characters and the story line. I didn't really want to stop listening.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
Book 1 & 2 were worth listening time. Liked both stories, but I would not take time to re listen as reader just Ok.
These 2 story lines are worth the time to listen. Better story and dialogue
no, but worth a listen
No more Dohner stories for me. My fave reviewers love this author's work, but they are not for me. The outlines are great, but the full story just is not for me. Such a shame as they are priced so right.
