Publisher's summary

Defiant Highland beauty Fiona Sinclair is shocked by her brothers’ treachery. To seal a fragile truce, they have traded her hand in marriage to their sworn enemy, a man she has never met, a man she was raised to despise. With no choice but to wed, Fiona makes her own private vow: Though she may sacrifice her freedom, she will never surrender her heart.

Commanded into marriage by the king, Myles Campbell is no more willing than his reluctant bride. Still, she is a rare beauty, passionate enough to warm even the coldest marriage bed. But Myles quickly realizes Fiona Sinclair isn’t some common wench: She has a warrior’s spirit and a fierce pride that only a fool would try to tame. And Myles Campbell is no fool. Their marriage was meant to unite warring clans. They never imagined it would ignite a once-in-a-lifetime love….

a brilliant trip back in time

This was a brilliant highland romance. Brogan takes the story of ‘marriage by order of the king’ and runs with it. She mixes romance, history, and battle scenes together to create an intriguing tale. She weaves together an intricate story and develops the land and scenery to support it.

The characters in this novel were well put together and developed in a manner that makes them seem real and believable. I really appreciated how the heroine was able to stand on her own, rather than being a meek heiress with others waiting on her. The male lead was also a well-rounded individual who was easy to like but that was not a pushover.

All in all this was an awesome trip back in time and a brilliant escape from reality.

Lovely Highland Romance

The story was well written. Not just another romance novel cut and pasted with the names and setting changed. The narrator did a very good job. This is my first book written by Tracy Brogan. I will seek out more of her books.

Creative plot, irritating narration

I liked the story and preferred to read it than listen. The cadence and inflection of the narrator was very irritating to listen to, with inappropriate emphases and pauses throughout. Even the chapter titles sound wrong; she says them in an ominous tone. Perhaps it's a product of her trying to do a Scottish accent, but it made listening to the story almost too annoying. I'd recommend the story in print or by a different narrator.
The plot line was entertaining and not completely predictable so I did stick it out to the end.

Brilliant!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved the storyline and Sarah Coomes does a fantastic job. She's a bit over dramatic but I much prefer that to no voice inflection at all. She does a good job distinguishing between the characters. I would love to listen to more by this author and narrator.

Nice highlander story

It is one of those books that might seem a bit long at times. But it is a heartwarming book that follows one of the more trationelle stories from that time. A young girl gets married off because of a political alliance.
Fiona is married to Myels, but she is afraid of him and his clan. And Myles is not particularly fond of her. But as it always happens, they see sides of each other, that they did not believe existed, and their hatred for each other becomes a love stronger than anything else.
I like this book. It gives the feeling that love conquer all.
Sarah Coomes does a ok job. Sometimes it's as if she draws the words out. But it's something you can survive. The book is good fun and worth the money. But do not use your credit, save it for an expensive book

Love this book

I loved this story, and the narrator made it even better. I almost always prefer to read, rather than listen, but the narrator was so entertaining and did such a great job that I actually preferred listening. The story was sweet, and had enough intrigue and romance to keep anyone entertained. Great job all around!
