Publisher's summary

Defiant Highland beauty Fiona Sinclair is shocked by her brothers’ treachery. To seal a fragile truce, they have traded her hand in marriage to their sworn enemy, a man she has never met, a man she was raised to despise. With no choice but to wed, Fiona makes her own private vow: Though she may sacrifice her freedom, she will never surrender her heart.

Commanded into marriage by the king, Myles Campbell is no more willing than his reluctant bride. Still, she is a rare beauty, passionate enough to warm even the coldest marriage bed. But Myles quickly realizes Fiona Sinclair isn’t some common wench: She has a warrior’s spirit and a fierce pride that only a fool would try to tame. And Myles Campbell is no fool. Their marriage was meant to unite warring clans. They never imagined it would ignite a once-in-a-lifetime love….

Narration so awful

Like the story. But the narrator. Can’t even describe it. It’s really awful. Painful to listen too

Great reading! !

The narrator was lovely. Her ability to differentiate the the characters, her rhythm and inflection all made listening to this story a pleasure. The story itself was predictable but the narrator brought the characters to life causing you to be a willing or unwilling follower until the end. Great job. Can't wait to listen to another one of her reads.

Romance , intrigue and mystery

What made the experience of listening to Highland Surrender the most enjoyable?

I liked the story, it was interesting, never boring. I like stories with other characters that have their own stories. This was most interesting in that it involved, the King. It also had a lot of history I was not familiar with.

What other book might you compare Highland Surrender to and why?

I don't usually like a lot medieval stories. Too brutal.

What about Sarah Coomes’s performance did you like?

She did an excellent narration. I like her and will listen to her again.

Any additional comments?

This mystery had quiet a twist and the ending took you by surprise, but just before the ending I sort of guessed it.

Captured me!

What made the experience of listening to Highland Surrender the most enjoyable?

This is my first story by Tracy Brogan and I was enthralled. She is a wonderful writer - choices of phrases and words are so colorful and descriptive. She really makes the story come alive. This has everything you could ask for: feisty women, handsome and rugged warriors, kings and castles. Add in intrigues from court life, luxurious gowns, and splendid sex - what more could you want!

What about Sarah Coomes’s performance did you like?

Sarah Coomes is now one of my new favorite narrators. Every character had a distinct and believable voice. I couldn't imagine anyone doing it better.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the credit....wish Tracy would do a sequel.

Married to the enemy to seal a truce

Fiona Sinclair was raised on tales of the Campbells' perfidy and treachery, so when her brothers surrender her hand in marriage to Myles Campbell to seal a truce, it feels like the ultimate betrayal. For the good of her clan, Fiona acquiesces and marries Myles, but even as she speaks her vows before the altar, she privately resolves to never allow him into her heart. For his part, Myles had set his heart on a French beauty, but when his King commands him to marry the fiery Fiona instead, Myles knows he has no choice and is resigned to make the best of it. But when he collides with temperamental Fiona who resists him at every turn, sparks fly. And as Fiona examines the reasons behind the bitter feud between their clans, matters between them may not be as she had always been told. The attraction between them is undeniable, so how long will Fiona resist Myles? Where do her loyalties really lie, and will Myles ever be able to fully trust her?

This novel is a unique take on the arranged marriage theme, with the historical backdrop of 16th century Scottish history woven throughout the story. Betrayal, intrigue, deceit, loyalty and romance swirl around a young girl as she struggles to conquer the demons of her past and sort through all she has been told to uncover the truth about her family's past. At the same time, she must also come to terms with the idea that her brothers, the only family she has left, have bartered her away and given her into the hands of the clan she has been taught to fear her whole life as her mortal enemy--the clan led by the man believed to have murdered her mother in cold blood. Fiona's poignant struggle to overcome the hurt and fear she feels at her brothers' betrayal is beautifully chronicled, and Myles's difficulty in remaining patient with her antics without being portrayed as a wimp is masterful. While the conclusion of the plot is fairly predictable, there are some surprising twists along the way that keep the plot lively and engaging. The audiobook performance was excellent. The narrator uses a range of accents and inflections that help to provide a distinctive voice to each character that enhances the novel without being distracting. Fans of historical romance will enjoy listening to this book.

I love a good Scottish accent!

I don't know about you but I am a total sucker for accents! The narrator was lovely and truly brought the story to life.

I was captivated and intrigued and really enjoyed the story. Feuding families, drama and two people fated for one another all paired with the magical world of ancient Scotland! Lovely story well done. Worth a credit.
