Publisher's summary

Defiant Highland beauty Fiona Sinclair is shocked by her brothers’ treachery. To seal a fragile truce, they have traded her hand in marriage to their sworn enemy, a man she has never met, a man she was raised to despise. With no choice but to wed, Fiona makes her own private vow: Though she may sacrifice her freedom, she will never surrender her heart.

Commanded into marriage by the king, Myles Campbell is no more willing than his reluctant bride. Still, she is a rare beauty, passionate enough to warm even the coldest marriage bed. But Myles quickly realizes Fiona Sinclair isn’t some common wench: She has a warrior’s spirit and a fierce pride that only a fool would try to tame. And Myles Campbell is no fool. Their marriage was meant to unite warring clans. They never imagined it would ignite a once-in-a-lifetime love….

A fun, easy listen

This is a story of adventure and romance. At times it was a bit predictable, but I'm okay with that. I would recommend it to someone who is looking for a light, summer story.

Arranged marriage

Excellent narration. I love listening to the Scottish accents.
A great romance also with mystery and suspense thrown in.
A marriage planned from birth to a family that you have been taught to hate.
Luckily, even though the family may be evil, his/her forced marriage is not what you'd expect. Husband & Wife have never met and have been growing up being taught to hate the other's family. How will the husband treat his new wife? Will the wife escape? Accept? Give in?
Why do the families hate each other?
Read this very enjoyable book to find out.

I seem to be in the minority.....

I liked the story, or rather what the plot was and the idea behind it. However, 3/4 of the book was just the two of them back and forth with the whole angst behavior. I mean, they didn't have as much relationship building as they had relationship conflict so when they finally got past that it was such a relief that I enjoyed the rest of the book so much! I think there just needed to be more meat to their relationship. I loved the character of the aunt. She was my favorite of all of them. The reveal of who the sinister character was left me scratching my head as :::::POSSIBLE SPOILER::::: he wasn't even in the entire story! Ever!! Like, who has the villain not even part of the book!? Not a great reveal. Narration was good.
I got this book on sale for $5 and I don't feel it was worth it. I won't return it but I was disappointed simply because of the dragging out the same thing for so long.

Excellent suprise

I really did not know what to expect of this book and purchased it on a whim. I'm really glad I did. I loved it! Once I started listening I became obsessed with completing the book. The narrator was great and the stroy line kept me interested till the end. I love highland romance novels and I hope to see some more from this author.

LOL

How could the performance have been better?

She read it as if every sentence was an orgasmic sensation. It is really funny to think about it. So as you listen to it, everyone is high strung drama queens and all the people are in constant arousal.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had to listen to it in parts from the constant high strung vibe from the orator. It took a long time to finish. It was like my break in between books - like a few hours then I had to have a break and would listen to something else.

Any additional comments?

The story is very good if you can get past the constant tension of the orator.

Yea! One I finished!

I am so picky when it comes to audiobooks and narrators. This was a great story, it held my attention the whole time. I love this narrator! The only negative is that I felt like it was a little light on the romance.

Good story...narrator lacking

I am only partway through this audiobook but the narration has driven me to review early. I apologize that i have more to say about the narrator than the story. The story is good so far, nothing unique but im biased since this is my bread and butter genre. It takes a lot for me to dislike any type of highland romance. I don't care for how stubborn Fiona is. She's so angry at her husband when she has no choice in the matter. her attitude makes things worse for herself. She does eventually come around which is good and makes the story much more interesting.

The narrator is another story entirely. She does not do men's voices well and almost every sentence comes out like a question. It is annoying and is utterly destroying this experience. She is...I think the best way to describe it would be jerky. In some areas the emotion she tries to convey is completely wrong, and she occasionally gets shrill. In some places she over-articulates so much that you get distracted. It's like she's trying too hard. I don't know if I will ever listen to this or recommend it to anyone else because the narrator is...ugh. Her voice is very pretty, but the fact that every single sentence comes out as a question makes me want to pull my hair out. I can't get past that bit of annoyance. Not worth a credit, but if its on sale for less than 5 bucks just buy it if you can tolerate the constant annoyance.
