Avelina Ramsay despairs that she will never fall in love. Though every lad she meets is entranced by her comeliness, shyness prevents her from speaking with them. Part of what silences her is the fear that beauty is all she has to offer. She longs for something more, for a deeper calling and sense of purpose, for a stronger connection with a lad. Desperate for help, Lina leaves home to stay with Jennie Cameron, her closest childhood friend. There, at the Cameron keep, Lina will meet the Highlander of her dreams and discover that her destiny is much richer than she ever could have dreamed.
As soon as he encounters Avelina Ramsay, Drew Menzie feels an overwhelming need to protect her. Never before has he met a lass who is at once so comely, so kind, and so strong. For reasons he keeps to himself, Drew does not wish to settle down and take a wife, but he cannot deny that Lina calls to him like no other lass. So when a neighboring clan threatens her, he steps forward to act as her protector. Little does he know that protecting Lina will prove a complicated task, for she has newly discovered otherworldly abilities that both set her apart and make her a target.
Lina and Drew have the potential for a blissful, harmonious future, but conflict is about to shake the Highlands - and Lina is fated to play a pivotal part in the outcome.

I have mixed feelings about this novel. It's the first in the series that I have listened to and due to my impressions I am not sure I would listen to another one, but I may consider another format. I do not think the narrator was the right fit for this book. I think he made the main female sound whiny and the main male sound like a 14 year old. So, I wouldn't likely enjoy listening to this narrator in more of the series. I always feel a female character does a better job creating a male voice and that way the Avelina who was the most voiced would sound like an actual female.
I enjoy highlander novel and may consider reading another one but in an ebook form so I can hear the characters' voices in my own imagination.
One area I feel Keira Montclair can improve upon is her romance scene.
I love these books and hope that one day she will continue! !! I do wish she had a little more steamy moments though. What can I say I love the romance. And I wish they could have used the same narrator that they had in the first few books.. The Narrator now does an ok job but it's kinda hard to get into the role of it.... Thank goodness I love the books that I needed to find out what happens or I may not have finished it... Other then that Loves!!!!
After listening to the entire set of books I am so sad. This wonderful set of books is so engrossing that you will not be able to stop until you have listened to the entire set. The family saga is fun and filled with emotion. A treat to read. Thank you Kiera Montclair, I will miss the family.
I love how she transports you to the highlands. She writes in a way that makes you think you are in a movie theatre watching it on film. Just beautifully marvelous.
