Publisher's summary

Ripley Todd just wants to live a quiet, peaceful kind of life. Her job as a sheriff's deputy keeps her busy and happy, and she has no trouble finding men when she wants them - which, lately, isn't all that often. She's perfectly content, except for one thing: she has special powers that both frighten and confuse her - and though she tries hard to hide them, she can't get them under control.

Distraction soon arrives in the handsome form of MacAllister Booke - a researcher who's come to investigate the rumors of witchcraft that haunt Three Sisters Island. Right from the start, he knows there's something extraordinary about Ripley Todd. It's not just her blazing green eyes and her sultry smile. There's something else. Something he can detect, but she'll never admit. Fascinated by her struggle with her amazing abilities, he becomes determined to help her accept who she is - and find the courage to open her heart.

But before Ripley and Mac can dream of what lies in the future, they must confront the pain of the past. For Three Sisters shelters centuries of secrets - and a legacy of danger that plagues them still.

Oh My Gosh

I stayed up all night listening to this book. That is rare for me, but this was one I couldn't put down. The first book in this series was great and the whole mystery caught my interest. In this book the characters I already liked grew in stature and the addition of the loveable professor was fantastic. Who couldn't love a brilliant geek with a hard body who looks sexy in glasses.

After a nap I'm off to book three.

Loved it!

Any additional comments?

This is the 2nd book of another great trilogy from Nora Roberts... in fact I'd say this series is my favourite. I loved the bit of mystery, magic, suspense and romance.
I like the introduction and interactions with the main characters of the 1st and 3rd books with out taking the spotlight away from the main character of this book.
You really need to listen to this series in the correct order because the under current of the series keeps going. If you listen to 1 and 2, it's impossible not to get number 3!
I highly recommend this trilogy!

Thoroughly enjoyed the entire audio. Listened to first of three books and had to find and purchase the other two. Additive.

Favorite Trilogy

I have loved this trilogy since first reading it 10 yrs ago! Decided to listen to eat while on a roadtrip recently and it was great! The only thing I was disappointed in was the reader's voice portrayal of the main character. Her personality portrayed in the book is one that is very confident and headstrong. The reader made her sound very whiny and wimpy. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Now we're cooking with gas!

If you could sum up Heaven and Earth in three words, what would they be?

Bullheaded meets Charming.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The charmingly dorky, absentminded, but brilliant Mr. MacAllister steals the show. He had the ability to hyper-focus on what he wants; whether it be Ripley, his research, or solutions to different problems that arise.

Did Sandra Burr do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

She does a pretty good job with developing each character's distinct speech patterns, tones, and rhythms.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There was no extreme reaction either way. The book was enjoyable, I did chuckle, but genuinely just felt contented by the end of the book.

Any additional comments?

Understandably, with fiction books, there is usually some hidden secret everyone wants to find out, but nobody is willing to share until the very end. There is a fine line between excitement and annoyance. Now, granted, I want to know things all from the get go, but eventually, the characters seem more whiny and childish rather than the emotion trying to purvey.
