Heaven and Earth: Three Sisters Island Trilogy, Book 2

Ripley Todd just wants to live a quiet, peaceful kind of life. Her job as a sheriff's deputy keeps her busy and happy, and she has no trouble finding men when she wants them - which, lately, isn't all that often. She's perfectly content, except for one thing: she has special powers that both frighten and confuse her - and though she tries hard to hide them, she can't get them under control.

Publisher's Summary

Ripley Todd just wants to live a quiet, peaceful kind of life. Her job as a sheriff's deputy keeps her busy and happy, and she has no trouble finding men when she wants them - which, lately, isn't all that often. She's perfectly content, except for one thing: she has special powers that both frighten and confuse her - and though she tries hard to hide them, she can't get them under control.

Distraction soon arrives in the handsome form of MacAllister Booke - a researcher who's come to investigate the rumors of witchcraft that haunt Three Sisters Island. Right from the start, he knows there's something extraordinary about Ripley Todd. It's not just her blazing green eyes and her sultry smile. There's something else. Something he can detect, but she'll never admit. Fascinated by her struggle with her amazing abilities, he becomes determined to help her accept who she is - and find the courage to open her heart.

But before Ripley and Mac can dream of what lies in the future, they must confront the pain of the past. For Three Sisters shelters centuries of secrets - and a legacy of danger that plagues them still.

Listen to the other books in this trilogy, including Book 1, Dance Upon the Air; and Book 3, Face the Fire.

    "Loved it!"

Just finnished the second book in this addictive trilogy. I absolutely loved how she develops her charachters and you really feel like you know them, or would know them just walking down the street. I can't wait to get started on the final book. (Sad sigh) Wish there were more in the series. One little tiny word of negative. I realize that the ending of a book is traditionally the climax and all that stuff, but listening to it, you are pumped up for that final battle, and poof, it's gone. She gives such vivid detail with everything else, the loves scenes were much longer than the "battle". It could have been draged out a bit. Maybe in the next book it will.

    "Much Better"
Would you listen to Heaven and Earth again? Why?

Yes. This second installment to the 3 sisters story was much better than the first. Better character development and more information to the storyline. The pace of the plot was better too.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I like Sandra Burr's voice but she's not the best at differentiating characters. Some she does well but others you do need the “he said”, “she said” to figure out who is talking.

    Any additional comments?

I like the way Roberts makes her fantasy worlds seem perfectly real and believable.

Have come to like certain narrators and sometimes rate the book because of them. Especially love mysteries and series.

    "So confident"

Ripley makes one realise that even being a tomboy has it's moments and although in everyday living one can not be as she is - you secretly wish you could - but the softer side to all of us there will always be!

Again - I want to go live there - want to be that happy - want to find the missing parts in life that make it all matter!

    Brilliantly read - superbly written

What would have made Heaven and Earth better?

I've read a bunch of her books, this one was definitely a disappointment.

What was most disappointing about Nora Roberts’s story?

I feel it dragged. Ripley wasthe main and most annoying character.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I still like Nora Roberts and would read more of her books. This is the first of 6 books I've read that was disappointing.

"I have fallen in love with another nerd!"

This is my second Nora Roberts' book. I listened to this book because it is the second in the Three Sisters Island trilogy. Nora's leading man in the first book, Dance Upon the Air, caught my attention but MacAllister Booke is a true find for me. He has head-turning good looks, a drool-worthy body, and a brain, although it is very absent-minded. What a pleasure to read.

(My first nerd was my husband so I guess I am drawn to them)

"Continue to fall in love with these characters."

I love this series, I have read in paperback and have listened to these audiobooks at least a half dozen times since they were written. They are very sweet and exciting and suspenseful and never fail to make me feel good. I enjoy this narrator and have purposefully bought other books that have been read by her. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I have.

Would you consider the audio edition of Heaven and Earth to be better than the print version?

In my case yes, enjoyed the narration of Sandra

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Mia. She guides her friends while remaining true to her beliefs. Most of all she loves her sisters, her town and her island. And she stands up for all in her own way. This is Ripley's story and the powers to be picked the perfect mate for he. One discovers how much he loves and will stand for this woman who owns his heart.

    Which scene was your favorite?

All of the alarms going off after the first big love scene.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Looking forward to the last book. This continues to build on the first book, but I think the last big scene with Ripley.

    Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed the 1st book, you'll enjoy the second. This is a G rated romance. But I enjoyed the story.

If you could sum up Heaven and Earth in three words, what would they be?

    Romance, Magic, Personal struggles

What other book might you compare Heaven and Earth to and why?

This is what you'd expect from a Nora Roberts Trilogy. There's a bad guy and obstacles to overcome but in the end our plucky protagonist wins.

What three words best describe Sandra Burr’s performance?

Not too much differentiation between voices, but certainly kept you in the story. The 'evil' voice was scary.
