Publisher's summary

A clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon-shifters lives among us. Bastian, leader of the Nightfury dragon clan, is sworn to protect humankind at all costs. For him, honor and duty always come first. When the clan dictates he take a human mate to sire a son, he falters, aware that for a human to birth a dragon-shifter she must die. Myst, the woman given into his care, is the most extraordinary he’s ever met, and though he can’t bear the thought of harming her, he is bound by duty.

Myst loves her life in the human world, but Bastian has captured her heart in an instant of electric connection. But Bastian and his warriors are in the middle of a deadly battle with the Razorback dragon-shifters, intent on killing every Nightfury clan member - and the humans they protect - the fate of their world and ours hangs in the balance. An extraordinary blend of action, fantasy, and steamy romance, Fury of Fire brings to life a dangerous new world intertwined with the survival of humanity, all while exploring the meaning of honor and the nature of true love.

Meh

Would you try another book from Coreene Callahan and/or Benjamin L. Darcie?

Maybe if her style matures a bit. Perhaps I'm just too old fashioned.

What was most disappointing about Coreene Callahan’s story?

Horrible underdevelopment of characters and their relationships.

Did Benjamin L. Darcie do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Not bad except for Sloan... Nerdy white guy voice for that one doesn't seem to fit.

Any additional comments?

The writing style of the author is distracting to say the least. Phrases like pleasure train, hunksville, getting up in someone' grill, consistent use of

Good Fantasy Book

This book was good. Nothing super surprising though. If you are use to reading romantic fantasy novel, then this one will fall right in your library nicely. There are 3 books in this series. I think I am going to stop at this one. Basically a dragon half human warrior finds his mate. Basic romantic fantasy novel setup here. Nothing to wow gripping about the story.

Darcie actually did a good job. I am not big on male narrators, but Darcie did well.

Good dragon shifter story

3-3.5 stars

This was a good story. It's the first book I've read by this author. Based on this book I may try the next in the series.

Myst is a nurse that does home visits. She cares about her patients and when a patient (and friend) misses some visits, Myst decides to go check on her while doing her rounds. When she gets there medical issues have already gotten so bad that Myst isn't able to save the mother but she manages to save the baby. She doesn't realize that this encounter will change her life completely.

Bastian is a dragon shifter. He's the leader of a clan of dragons that fights to keep humans safe. Their enemy is a clan of dragons led by a mad dragon that wants to get rid of the human race. Bastian's clan is low on warriors and the only way to have babies is to impregnate a human female. The problem is the human females don't live past the birth and Bastian's clan is honorable and doesn't hurt women. Regardless of this, out of desperation, Bastian decides they need to take mates and also decides to lead by example by doing so right away. It's about this time when checking out a lead brings him in to a meeting with Myst.

To say that things don't go smoothly for Bastian and Myst would be an understatement of huge proportions. Bastian finds himself majorly attracted to Myst (and more than just physically) and decides she's it for him. Figuring she'd be in danger of being found by the bad dragons, Bastian kidnaps Myst..much to her horror. Myst, having seen Bastian in dragon form, fears for her life and being kidnapped by a dragon doesn't help things at all. The only thing that keeps her going is that she's trying to take care of the baby she saved (who it ends up is a baby dragon shifter). Bastian actually uses her caring for the baby against her, getting her to promise not to escape for 3 days (giving him time with her to convince her to stay).

TBH, this story could have gone a better in the romance department...it's an insta-love but not completely believable for me. Bastian kept lying to Myst and using every excuse to avoid telling her things he'd rather avoid until it was too late (and he'd impregnated her without her knowledge, risking her death). He did it so he could to get her to accept him, because he had developed feelings for her. She had feelings for him as well so she didn't push him for the truth like she should have. Bastian's plan backfires when Myst finds out about all the stuff he kept from her and that he's just put her life in danger by getting her pregnant. She gets majorly pissed and takes off when Basian's unable to follow her. This is actually a very TSTL moment because she knows the police have got to want to question her about her patient and the missing baby, not to mention she knows that she's in danger from the bad dragons. As was obviously coming, Myst ends up in trouble and has to be saved. Things end well (for the most part) and Myst finds out how to fix the danger caused by her pregnancy. The ending is pretty good and Myst and Bastian have a nice HEA.

Overall this was a good story. I guess my main issue with it was Bastian and Myst and the constant back and forth. They both were back and forth with their intentions, the lies and their feelings (1 & 3 were more Myst and #2 was more Bastian but they were both back and forth one way or the other) and it made it hard to get in to their relationship for me. I liked the story though and the action plot is pretty good with and interesting premise (although there was plot point I was disappointed didn't get developed like it could have been). I may try the next in the series as I've been told they get better as you go.

*note - A number of people have said this book is similar to the BDB series...I can see this as there are definitely some similarities. I didn't feel that it was too bad (I didn't feel like I was reading a BDB novel) but it's there. I've been told this decreases as the series continues but I can't say for myself.

*note2 - The Narrator is alright but he wasn't my favorite. He did good for the men's voices but the females seemed strained at times.

I love dragons.

What made the experience of listening to Fury of Fire the most enjoyable?

The action, the romance, the story behind the story. The main story is about Bastian and Myst, but if you listen you'll find the author is setting you up for the series. I really like stories about dragons and this story appealed to my craving for romance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bastian was my favorite character because of his fierceness and protective nature towards Myst. I love a hunky male that is willing to protect his woman.

What about Benjamin L. Darcie’s performance did you like?

I liked the voice he did for Bastian. He did a good job differetiating between the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to listen in one sitting. I couldn't because of time and instead listened in two sittings. I have listened to the book twice now. It's my favorite in the series.

Any additional comments?

Paranormal/Fantasy Romance is my favorite genre and this book doesn't disappoint with the background of Dragonkind. FYI: The "F" bombs are thrown around quite a bit and there's a steamy sex scene.

Was it worth the credit? I say, Yes!

I liked the beginning but then it began to drone on and on near the end...

Which character – as performed by Benjamin L. Darcie – was your favorite?

Myst..

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When it was discovered that Bastien could heal Myst...

Stupendous and new.

Where does Fury of Fire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top 10%

Any additional comments?

This is a very unique view at dragons. I listened straight through the whole thing. I loved it and am disappointed the next book is not on audio yet. Ms. Callahan left plenty of room for the series to grow - and I want it all NOW.

Dragon Stand Out

What did you love best about Fury of Fire?

I have a love for a good dragon romance story and this is a standout over all the others that I've read or heard in a long time. I love this and as soon as I can I will be getting the other books in the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fury of Fire?

I think the most memorable part of this book was the knowledge that the women that have been harmed for so long due to the births of the children are the key to the emotional wellbeing of these men. if these men bond with their women then they can transcend what they have know all of their lives.

Wow! So glad I found this series!

This is such a great story the action, the love, the suspense it all just draws you in. The narration was good. Very animated. For a man he does women voices pretty well. I will definitely be buying the other books in this series.
