Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of the Night Huntress series comes a breathtaking new journey to the dark side of desire.

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows - her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield - and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness - and a demon shape-shifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human - even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together, because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.

Tavia Gilbert does and amazing job. The consistency with accents, tone, pitch, clarity.

Another Frost Favorite!

Where does First Drop of Crimson rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty high up there. I love Frost's books and this one is no different. Will definitely listen to it again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of First Drop of Crimson?

There were so many it is hard to pinpoint just one.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

All the characters were great but I really like British accents and those were done well

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Other than really liking it and hoping she releases more soon!

Any additional comments?

Well worth the money or credit

Jeaniene Frost books

I am thrilled with Jeaniene Frost's books and I cant seem to get enough of them.. The narrater Tavia Gilbert does a fabulous job of making you feel like you are sitting and watching a movie not listening to a book. I highly recommend the Night Huntress World and The Night Huntress Series. Just love them. A very satisfied listener.. :)

Vampire love!? Demon love!? Yesssss!

Great side story to the Night Huntress series. Love Spade as a character and it was great to see a happy ending for Denise. Highly recommend finding where this fits in between Night Huntress series and reading this.

Frost and Gilbert and another winner!

Ms. Gilbert continues to be one of my top three narrators. Her talent is obvious in ever reading she performs. She is truly gifted and a pleasure to listen to especially when teamed with Frost. Friends of Cat and Bones this book will not disappoint and while having a totally new and fresh storyline plenty of old friends pop in and out. Plenty of new info is revealed about Spade and his past. I love how the author handles Denise's recovery from the trauma she suffered in the most recent C&B book. There is action, humor, heat and redemption in this book all flawlessly entertained into a very enter inning listen. Bravo ladies, I look forward to your next collaboration.

Not sure how well I really liked this

This is my first book by Jeaniene Frost and I am not really sure what I think coming out of it. My overall impression is that the story is generally good, interesting premise and the action moves along. There were a few things, however, that grated on me and make me question the overall experience.

I will start with the narrator as I think that may have had the greatest negative impact on me. I was not impressed with Tavia Gilbert at all. I gather from her accent and some of the slang in the book that Jeaninene Frost is British. That is not a negative in any way, but I was irritated by Tavia's accents. The heroine, Denise had a very Southern US accent for no real reason which drove me nuts. The worst, however, was the hero, Spade, who's high pitched British accent made him sound girly and totally not like a desirable hero. The narrator also frequently spoke so slowly and deliberately I often thought... just get on with it would you.

Then the book, as I said, overall I liked the story, however, I did not like Denise. She was just way too stubborn, screaming and running and carrying on like a baby half the time. If I were Spade I would have ditched her. I understand she went through a very traumatic experience, but that does not excuse her constant, and I mean every single time, misinterpretation and jumping to conclusions about everything Spade did. I just wanted to smack her constantly. The only other real thing I disliked about the book was Spade's name...I mean just yuck! I understand where it came from but it was not a good name for a hero...I think the author could have come up with something else.

In conclusion, I think I probably would not have had the reactions I did to this book if I had read it in print. I tend to be pretty generous with my stars, leaving 1 and 2 stars for really bad books so I give this an overall 4 for story but 3 for narrator...she was decent just not for this story. I will look to read in print some of the author's other books but will likely avoid the audiobooks with this author.

I Love Ms. Frost's books

I loved this, well written as always. I did find it a little off putting for Bones' "voice" to sound different from how it sounds when read in the other Night Huntress stories, but still great story.
