Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of the Night Huntress series comes a breathtaking new journey to the dark side of desire.

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows - her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield - and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness - and a demon shape-shifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human - even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together, because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.

Another Winner!

If you think you have learned everything about the paranormal world and that there is no room to learn anything new in their world, read this second series, you will be surprised. In this audiobook we learn about demons. The storyline is well developed and there is plenty of action suspense mystery humor and romance. Couldn’t put it down. Love the author and the narrator does an outstanding job. Not gonna give you a spoiler, but will tell you that you won’t be disappointed. It’s time well spent.

Great Story!!!

What A good story...this is my first book from JF and I wasn't disappointed by her story but I was a little with the narrated...she wasn't bad..but Spade needed a MAN voice..It was like listening to my teen age daughter reading me this story trying to be a sexy man... didn't go over very well..other then that a really good story, can't wait for the next one!

very good!

Awesome, kept my attention from the beginning and is different from other books about vampires. It made the vamps seem more "human" ha!

Bloody brilliant as always

Would you listen to First Drop of Crimson again? Why?

These anthologies fill in a great back story and allow for spin off characters stories to be told which means the great stories will never end. It was great to see Bones's best friend Spade finally get some spotlight.

What other book might you compare First Drop of Crimson to and why?

Any of the Night Huntress book. A brilliant writer like Jim Butcher and Patricia Briggs.

Which scene was your favorite?

Pick one. The book had me from the beginning as usua. She is a great storyteller.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes finished it in one day. Couldn't stop.

Any additional comments?

Must read Kiss of Eternal Darkness before reading This Side of Grave. Fills in gaps.

LOVE

First Drop of Crimson is book 1 in the Night Huntress World, which is a spinoff from the Night Huntress series. I am a huge fan of Cat & Bones and really liked Spade and Denise when I met them through the main Night Huntress series. It took me a while to get around to this book because I was so stuck on Cat & Bones but now that I finished it, I am kicking myself for taking so long to read this book. I loved it!! I don’t know how the author managed to make this just as good as the main series. I adore Spade and Denise together. The narration was fantastic. I cannot get enough of this world.

Good, But Not My Favorite

I did enjoy this book, and I really like Jeaniene Frost. I would have rated it 5 stars except that I had a hard time even tolerating the character of Denise. She just seemed a little too whiny and weak for the majority of the book. Maybe it's because Cat is such a strong character that it left Denise a little lacking.
I thougth the narrator, Tavia Gilbert did a fantastic job on Halfway to the Grave. After hearing so many high class British accents, Bones was a delightful change once I got used to it. But after hearing Denise's semi-southern accent, I was a little disappointed with FDOC. She sounded sort of southern, but not really, and she spoke too quickly for a southerner. It would have been more believable to me if the speech was a little more drawn out.
Anyway, with all the smaller things that I wasn't crazy about, this book still rates a solid 4 stars and if I were rating the book without the narration, the would be a little higher.
Now, I am off to start Eternal Kiss of Darkness and expect that book to be 5 stars.
