Mick must face the dragon council for breaking their laws, and while he doesn't seem too worried about his upcoming trial, Janet will do anything to keep him safe. She'll need a little help from her friends, old and new: Nash and Coyote; Cassandra, a powerful witch turned hotel manager; and Colby, a sort-of-trustworthy dragon. But now a new, dark power is stirring in Magellan that Janet must face - and even more frightening, one is stirring within herself.

"James' world is dangerous and exotic and filled with intriguing characters, all of which showcases her exceptional talent. This series just may become a real barn burner!" (Romantic Times)
One of the biggest flaws in First Person narration is the lack of perspective. The reader is locked into the thoughts and sights of the primary character. We have no clue what fits and what does not fit unless the leading character figures it out for us.
In Firewalker, the author tries to weave many story lines together. But, she flounders around and fails to pick a primary line which the reader can lock onto. Personally, I have no problem following five or six story lines at a time as long as the author follows a logical progression from time to time. This offering fails to do so in any meaningful way. The result, for me at least, was a total let down at the conclusion. Put another way, the means did not justify the ending.
Hillary Huber is, as always, Hillary Huber. Everyone sounds the same and each character carries the same vocal inflection regardless of the authors intent. I put up with it - but I don't enjoy it very much.
I am addicted to audiobooks. It makes my 1 hour (each way) commute go by without me becoming an agressive driver. lol
I love this series. Allyson James is an awesome story teller and Hillary Huber is a wonderful narrator. Allyson gives you a thrill, suspense and romantic novel. I was hooked from the first word of this book. Wonderful read. Janet and Mick continue their awesome story. The excitement is hard to contain. The suspense and thrill will keep you on the end of your seat and your pulse racing. This book has tasteful romance. Not any raunchy sex. Awesome paranormal series. Gonna be so sorry when it ends.
After reading this second book of the series there is improvement and the overall feel of the story and characters for me, as the first one left me lukewarm and only mildly interested in continuing with the series in general.
Having chosen to read on I found a better understanding of Janet, she is tough, smart and compassionate. A well rounded character is forming and her relationships with the other characters are coming to life and feel more sincere. I look forward to reading the rest of the series now.
The daughter of an underworld goddess she is being trailed and monitored by gods, powerful dragons and others who are watching to see if she will realize the strength of her own power and if she will be able to handle it wisely or destroy the world.
I listened to Allyson James' first book in this series (Stormwalker) and LOVED it! I was resigned to reading the next books on my Kindle and - YAY! - Audible now has more of this series in their library!!! The excitement continues in book 2, so I can't wait to listen to book 3. Janet Begay is a great, strong character. Hillary Huber once again does an excellent job bringing this story to life.
I read the first book in this series and thought it was pretty boilerplate "paranormal." Based on the reviews I was hoping the series would get better. Plus, I was just desperate for something to listen to so was willing to give it a second try. What a waste of credit! The plodding pace was so tortuous I had to skip whole chapters just to bear to keep listening. Buy at your own risk.
Love mysteries, romance & urban fantasy
Yes, I certainly would. The narrator is good. Her voice may not change a lot in variation (that usually bothers me) but Hillary Huber's voice really does weave a spell and keep me engaged in the story.
Jenn Stark's Immortal Vegas series, Domino Finn's Black Magic Outlaw, Stephen Blackmoore's Eric Carter series - these series are somewhat the same subject - sort of - and they are all very good.
I have never heard Hillary before but I have already picked up another book of her narration already. She has such a lilting, calm and easy going voice that is really a treat to listen to.
I enjoyed the storyline. For me, however, the regular narration speed is too slow to stream it. I downloaded it to my Fire HD so I could adjust +1.25. It made it move along a bit faster. Much more enjoyable for my listening experience.
Love listening to books and walking. Connected to Audible at least 6 hours a day.
A very good listen, books 1 and 3 and 4 build on this one making a series worth listening.
