Publisher's summary

When female wolf shifter Taryn Warner first encounters Trey Coleman, an alpha male wolf shifter with a dangerous reputation, she’s determined to resist his charms. After all, Trey - who was only fourteen when he defeated his own father in a duel, winning the right to be alpha of his pack - can’t have anything to offer the talented healer besides trouble, or so she thinks. Taryn finds herself drawn in by Trey’s forceful demeanor and arctic-blue eyes, and she eventually agrees to enter an uneasy alliance with him. If the two succeed in convincing their respective packs that they’ve chosen each other as mates, Trey will win valuable political allies, while Taryn will escape an odious arranged mating.

But there are a lot of potential pitfalls to this plan - including the very real possibility that the wolf shifters, overwhelmed by their growing attraction to each other, will be unable to maintain the clear heads needed to pull off the deception.

Smokin'

This book has it all. It is packed with lots of banter between Taran and Grandma as well as suspense and deceit. It is the first book in the Phoenix Pack series and I can't wait to listen to the rest.

Ok👍

This is my first Suzanne Wright book and I am 3 hours away from finishing it. It’s 13+ hours long...which is all right but it’s dragging a little. Figured I’d just put a review in because it’ll be a while. I understand the attention to detail and I get the impression that Wright was making sure the entire book flowed exactly how it would in real life. Or maybe she was just pacing the story.

I admit I lost interest after 9 hours and only listen to it a few minutes at a time now. It’s not a terrible book, it just takes a while and sometimes the point gets lost. Sex scenes are hot, the attraction of all the males are hot, anything sexual was hot. However, there were some scenes that were overdone. For example, Trey’s obsessive possessiveness combined with backstories of the feelings. The descriptions just kept going on and on...and on.

And there were some scenes that just seemed almost...immature? Childish? For example, Teryn had jumped onto Trey’s back as he walked away and when they started talking, he adjusted her so that she was in front of him...still clinging to him arms and legs. I had the image of a monkey on a human in my head when that came up. There are more, but I’ve taken one too many breaks in between to remember all of it.

There are a lot of characters who have the center stage sometimes and while Jill Redfield did an excellent job of being all of them, this book could have had 2 or more narrators to make them more distinguishable. There are a lot of men in this and I got confused as to who Redfield was voicing. Have Jason Clarke, Joe Arden, Noah Michael Devine, Zachary Webber...heck, even Shane East join in! The hot men are there, so match them up with men who have great voices🤷🏻‍♀️ Carly Robbins could join in, too, because she has that quirky-cute, sassy, expressive tone that could easily be one of the female mates of the pack.

I thoroughly enjoy the humor and camaraderie of the Phoenix pack😄 They are loyal, funny, and very alpha, even the submissive ones in a way. Teryn’s sassy, snarky, and hilarious personality definitely suits the pack. I feel like this audiobook could have had a lot more fun with the narration, but I don’t know the specifics of BTS.

The one character who caught my attention was Tao. He sounds super cute, gruff, gentle, thoughtful, sensitive, protective...😍 Can’t believe Tao’s story isn’t one of the first 3 books of this series...I might get his book just because I like him (his unique name might have something to do with it as well). Hopefully that one doesn’t drag out...

Going off tangent: There’s a scene sort of in the middle-ish of the book where Trey and his Enforcers are walking together to a pack or to someone...I don’t remember (ha!). I can totally see that in my mind😆😍 and it’s giving me goosebumps. LOLOL

I would recommend getting this if it were a few hours shorter. Maybe 8 or 9 hours at the most? The humor is freaking adorable and witty to listen to. Redfield is a good narrator to listen to. It’s all good to listen to...in doses lol

Loved this book!!!

Looking at the reviews I was hesitant but so glad I went for it. Enjoyed every part of this. It definitely had the male dominant wear-wolf and a strong female fighter. Laughed at all the quick quips. The sex scene are hot and steamy.

My first shifter book

Overall I would say that it’s a 3/5 stars and I feel like I’m being generous. The main character kind of turned me off in the sense that she was obnoxiously stubborn . I get it - she has to defend herself because she is latent but it had me rolling my eyes with her attitude . I feel like there could of been more character development - more descriptive writing - but I’m also partial to historical fictions and used to very descriptive sceneries and what not. I liked the idea of the storyline.

One thing that almost had me turning it off was something I feel like all the romance books add and it drives me crazy. I don’t want to say it but it’s very common in trilogies and series whether young adult or adult . Anyway this really wasn’t for me .

Feral Sins

First off Jill Redfield is a wonderful narrator. I also like most of Suzanne Wright’s books as well. This one was a bit drawn out. I loved the story! It was full of betrayal, sex and sarcasm. I love a strong female and she didn’t disappoint. Alpha male was as awesome.

So Good!

This book is beautifully written. The imagery and descriptive words the author uses throughout the book was phenomenal. I highly recommend it for shifter lovers.

Excellent Reading

I loved the book itself and the story line, but the reader, Jill, made it exceptional. Sometimes I had to remind myself it was only one person reading the book, and the way she moved between the different points of view within each chapter was flawless. Jill made the story come alive and drew you in from the first line of the book. This was my first Suzanne Wright novel, and thanks to a TikTok video, I am glad I downloaded it!

Struggle to get through

Definitely a struggle to get through this book. The story is meh, the sex is hard to listen to, mostly because the FMC has to fight each time and that gets old so fast. Both characters are immature and makes them hard to like. the banter is ok, but it's hard to listen the constant sex fighting. I won't be finishing the series
