I just could not get into this book. I am not really sure why but after 3 chapters I returned it. Felt silly doing this as I bought it on sale for $4.95 but still felt like my money could go towards something better. I would say this is a pass.
I have to admit I didn't think the book would be that great but I gave ot a listen anyway. To my surprise it was very well written. I really enjoyed the suspense.
My favorite character was Dominic Archer. I love villains!
This was actually the first time I ever listened to Diana Luke. She was great, she's actually one of my favs now.
No extreme reactions.
If you read the summary I'm sure you realize there are sex scenes. If that doesn't bother you just give it a listen, I'm telling you you're going to enjoy it!
It you don't like...change it!
Oh my goodness!!
The ending was something I never expected.
I could not put this book down. I stayed home on a Saturday night listen to this book because I couldn't get enough of it. Naomi Chase has been added to my favorite author list and this book is a new favorite.
This was a book I enjoyed so much!!!! I could not stop listening, I was hook from the first sentence!!! I was so glad to be able to download part 2 right away Deception. Both books were great, lots of twist and turns and plenty of drama!!! I would highly recommend this book to those who like fastpace books w/ lots of drama and twist and turns, and part 2 Deception just gets better!!!!!!!
wife, mother, hard worker... and lover of romance and wit
Not what I was expecting when I purchased this book...
1-this is a book geared towards a black (African american) audience... would I have gotten it anyway, had I known this? probably... still I didn't know
2- most of the characters where truly awful people (including the main 2 featured in the story summery)
3- there was way too much gratuities sex... the frequency, and similarity of each sex scene, became a static blur... making me want to say " and they kissed... skip to the end"
4- I suffered thru the first half of the book ...taking long breaks in between... because I needed closure... no such luck! out of my many wishes thru out the book including the main girl (Tamia) would be found out and have someone shout "Liar, liar, pants on fire"and/or get horribly disfigured somehow and lose all her man appeal... that Dominique would contract some horrible disease, lose all his money and his wife, and become totally impotent, and Brandon could find someone else and move on ... (3 out of 7 was what I got)
the second part of the book was much better (but only in comparison to the hard to read of the first half)... the last few chapters were actually pretty good , but end so abruptly that it leaves you shocked ( not to mention the bombshell that Tamia's sister drops on her in the very end)
in summery I would not reccomend this book to anyone I know...it was not only a waste of my time, but I now need to find a way to get rid of the bad taste it left in my mouth and mind
as a cautionary tale there are two points this book makes (in Tamia's words) " You always have a choice... and...Karma Sucks"
I love good books and great narrators. Love urban fantasy, sci fi, romance, mystery, murder, and mayhem with lots of humor and sarcasm.
There is no hope of that happening. If I could have rated it with negative stars, I would have.
Never again this author.
Diana was fine. The author should be shunned.
Deep, dark depression. A desire to end it now, because life is bleak and unrewarding.
Why in the world did Audible agree to sell this horrible thing?
Tell us about yourself! I love to read or listen( audio), nothing abridged ,I want every word the author penned that is what I want.
Powerfully compelling story
This was the first of its type that I've read
I liked the performance it was subtle in places allowing the read to second guess the maim character ,wondering how she was going to find her way through.
Yes, what I didn't know when I started was that this was book 1 of a series
Because this is part of a series I quickly bought book 2 can't wait to see how it all ends.
The mixture of reality and unrealness. Certain events I could relate and others I just say "get real!"
This was a very good storyline. I liked that it was set in Houston. Some of the locations I was able to relate and not just imagined. I loved the narration, all the characters did not sound the same as I have experienced in other books. It's very hard to listen to a story when the role of a man sounds like a woman.
Yes, she was rather good. She did a good job with the voices.
Stronger characters, less fakeness, less raunchy sex scenes. I found myself through the book saying to Tamia "but you deserve this", you had choices, and for Dominic someone needed to cut his man-apples off!
So, I really enjoyed this book. I could have done with a lot less sex and more suspense. I really liked Brandon, with all his wealth, uppity parents and environment; he had a heart and kept it real. Tamia at times needed to get a serious grip on reality that you cannot really have your cake and devour it as well without consequences especially when you practiced to deceive. Cynthia and Tray were Kool! The end was very surprising, I had Dominic locked in all the way, who would have expected Fiona. This was a whirlwind between the reality and living in a bubble. Overall, it was good reading and I would think that there is a follow-up to this.
The narrator was excellent and captured the voices and personalities of the different and complicated characters of the story. I could really visualize what was going on, the different scenes like it was a movie.
Brandon is my favorite character. Something about him that makes you really fall in love with him. Not only is he described very sexy but he is thoughtful and kind but does have a bad boy side which I love.
She really brings out the characters personalities and thoughts. She is really good.
"what's done in the dark, always comes to the light"
There is a second book called Deception which continues the story line and they both are great reads and listens.
Got this book on a discount and gave it a chance...OMG, can't believe that this book would turn out as good as it did, and the wicked thing is that the end of the book leaves a cliffhanger so you have to get the next book in the series to find out what happens next!
I couldn't stop listening, I walked an extra 2 hrs just to keep listening because it was just too good and I didn't want to stay in one place and get sleepy. Reminds me so much of daytime soap story lines (except this one goes alot quicker), with secrets, lies, deception along with lots of hot sex mixed in. Wish this story could turn into a TV series....it needs to go on!
This is the best urban based book I have read in a long time, this author did a good job with the story and the narrator did a good job with the voices, the inflection and all the attitudes of the characters. I felt like I was listening to episodes of some of the urban shows (with the language) and I couldn't stop laughing and kept going OOOOOH when something bad was going down!
