An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness … and now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.
Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she’s only imagined in her worst nightmares.
At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he’d seen it all. Then Kira appears—this fearless, beautiful human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.
With danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

“In the second spin-off from the best-selling Night Huntress series, Frost produces a tale that is wildly romantic as well as action-packed. If Frost keeps this up, fans will need to build more keeper shelves!” (Romantic Times)
Yes and I have serial times already
First drop of crimson
The way she portraits mencaries he is so powerful and the night huntress book make him seem untouchable but this book gives him some humanity
Kieras protection of the great and mighty mencaries and when she met vald
Ok spade and mencaries have wives so what about ian
I found this to be very entertaining overall.
When Vlad showed up. I loved his character from Once Bitten and was delighted he had a small role in this book.
Not sure, unfortunately I don't pay attention to the narrators name as much as how well they tell the story.
I loved when she shared her secret with her sister and how she helped her brother.
I wish her male characters weren't so overly praising of the women, it makes them seem a little insecure to me.
Ok this is the second of the series and it's more of the same. The story line is great, then a stupid sex scene is throne in to destroy it. I know every once in a while you have those reviewers (complainers) who don't realize a book is romance so they give 1 or 2 stars because it isn't the book for them but that is not the case here. Almost everything in my collection can be classified as a romance but even I can't take it anymore. I don't understand why authors cannot separate the book so 20 minute sex scenes are their own chapter. If I get tired of listening to porn I should be able to skip it. If there was some way for me to avoid the porn I would but oh no... you have to add something so important that if I skip to the next chapter, I am totally lost. It makes me really angry that great character development and plot is waisted on porn. I loved the Night Huntress series and I wanted to get more back story but I give up. Oh did i forget to say porn?
I find Jeaniene's books very entertaining. This one, however, felt a little off. I liked the story, but the editing was sub-par. There were several errors that jarred me out of the story.
However, my biggest complaint is that Jeaniene is getting carried away with sex scenes. I understand that the books in this series are sort of super-natural Romance stories, and I'm used to an occasional fairly detailed sex scene (it seems like now days every story has to have an obligatory sex scene). I am anything but a prude, but with this book the scenes were waaayyyy toooo loonnnngggg and there were tooooo many of them - I actually caught myself saying out loud, "Not another one!". Maybe she ran out of story line and had to pad the word count with sex.
Yes, but I need a minute to recover.
This book stands on its own, if you love vampires your a fool if you dont read this novel.
She did a fantastic job with this novel.
Thrilling and worth every moment.
ER Doc escaping reality
It was great to get the history of Mencares and the history of the vampires back to ancient Egypt.
How can you not love Mencares, but wouldn't it be nice to get the story on these faithful wingmen of Vlad and Mencares?
The calm voice of Mencares was so fitting.
The lonely pharaoh with bite
Give us more of these chronicles! I'm going into withdrawal waiting for more!!! What about a book detailing the Australian penal colony years?
I love Jeaniene Frost and have read all her books but this one was just ok... Definatley my least favourite of the Night Huntress series and the spin offs.... It just dragged in some parts but if you have read all the other books it is worth a listen!!
Return of Cat and Bones
She could read a dictionary and I'd buy it. She is the BEST narrartor!
YES AND I DID IT!
This is a great spin off of the the Night Huntress Series telling the individual stories of those characters! And the same narrator...awesome! I would recommend these to anyone who liked the Night Huntress Series and if you have not read the Night Huntress Series I would recommend you read those first...
the most enjoyable part of this book is Tavia Gilberts ability to keep each character SO individual. The reader is so personable that you feel like the characters are real people.
I think Menchares. I like his calm stoic demeanor. Kyra is the perfect mate for him
I really like bones...
really I have no idea
i've read all of Frosts books in this series, can't wait for the rest I really wish she would find a way to pair up IAN... he needs someone too,.
