Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Romance, history, and time travel blend once again as the couple builds a new life together in the wilderness of pre-Revolutionary America.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Davina Porter's narrative talent adds a special vibrance and resonance to Gabaldon's complex, colorful characters.

Critic reviews

"Gabaldon's range is impressive, whether she's evoking the rawness of colonial America, the cozy clutter of a modern Scottish parsonage, the lusts of the body or the yearnings of the spirit. Her legion of fans will love diving into this ocean of romance." ( Publishers Weekly)

Lots of surprises, yet expected.

Heart wrenching decisions in the book with twists and turns-some were unexpected but most not. Leaves you wanting more.

The Frasers and The Mckenzies are here!

This book was the longest for me to listen to. Diana Gabaldon and Davina Poter are surely a hit, a guaranteed success. However, there were some many twists, turns and things you never see coming, that sometimeS I had to stop listening to recover from the shock of recent events heard! That is why I took longer to finish this book.

I trust that only fans of the series will get this far, given that this is the fourth book.
If you want to fall in love with the series, This should not be the first book to be read. Readers should read Outlander first.

That being said, I highly recommend this book to those who want to continue this adventure with Claire, Brianna, Roger, and Jamie (sexiest grandpa ever!). By the way, Lord John is here too.

Could not put it down

Where does Drums of Autumn rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was compelling listening. Just could not wait to get back to it ASAP

Who was your favorite character and why?

Claire of course after all she is the centre of the saga.

What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Davina brings the characters to life with her clever use of accents. Although one can do this when reading to oneself the characters seem more alive/real as the pace of the story is slowed by the spoken word instead of being fast forwarded through one's mind's eye.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Tunnels to time.
