Publisher's summary

Gwen Frazier is no stranger to ghosts. She sees them in pools of water, windows, mirrors - any reflective surface - at the scene of violent deaths. But finding justice for the dead is something she’s not trained to do and a luxury she can’t afford. What pays the bills is her work as a psychic counselor who sees auras and interprets dreams.

The death of her friend and mentor, Evelyn Ballinger, brings Gwen back to the small town of Wilby, Oregon, and brings back memories she would rather forget. Two years ago, a killer stalked the members of one of Ballinger’s research studies - including Gwen. She survived, but two others didn’t, though the deaths were attributed to natural causes. The apparent suicide of the killer closed the case, yet Gwen knows otherwise. And now, she’s a suspect.

Enter Judson Coppersmith - a man of startling power and disturbing energy. Sent by a friend to help Gwen, the psychic investigator arrives in Wilby barely in control of his own talent and his own life, haunted by urgent dreams. His attraction to Gwen is primal, but there are secrets he must keep to protect himself from surrendering to her completely.

As their investigation into deaths past and present draws them ever closer to danger, Gwen finds herself going too far - into dreamscapes, into decades of deception, and into the fires of a desire too strong to resist....

Expected more

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. The performance was poor. I expect the best from J. Krentz and have for years. The narrator made the male character sound like a teenage boy. The tone, voice and inflections were a total disappointment. It made it difficult to actually rate the book fairly so I'm going to have to buy the book and read it myself.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Change the narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tanya Eby’s performances?

No.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably, just because it's J. Krentz.

Any additional comments?

Usually I don't care for dual narrations, but this may be one instance when having a female and male narrator could have improved the performance and made the listen easier to follow.

Can we say "retread"!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A fresh storyline by Krentz. I have enjoyed her books for years, however in the past year or so - I have become very bored. Same thing happened with Christine Feehan. Basically a constant retread of characters with just little twist on the plot. Whether it is her Amanda Quick, Jayne Ann Krentz or Jayne Castle titles - I can now accurately predict her characters and plots. While the physic thing is cool, after awhile it becomes very predictable. Even when Krentz tries to change up the character by not connecting them with Jones & Jones and the Arcane series - the same "talents" and character types are found in this series. So boring, I gave up on it when I began to be able to exactly predict what was coming next. If you are new to her books - you'll like it. But for those of us who have read her for years - it has become increasingly predictable. I liked her better when she did single titles years ago. So, just like I no longer buy Christine Feehan, unfortunately, I think I'm done with Jayne. Too bad - she is a great writer - just needs really for real new material.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jayne Ann Krentz again?

If it were a totally different type story line and characters.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tanya Eby’s performances?

Don't know - wasn't too impressed.

What character would you cut from Dream Eyes?

They all were pretty flat in my opinion.

Any additional comments?

Same old same old. This is a pretty dead on retread of her Arcane book titled Fired Up: Book One of the Dreamlight Trilogy - insofar as the whole dream thing goes. Very similar "talents" for the main characters.

Good Story, Lackluster Performance

This story is the sequel to Copper Beach, It included a few new twists in her arsenal of psychic talents, but overall both the male and female had talents simlar to those of characters in previous stories. Her paranormal books used to be such fun because each time the main character had some weird new type of talent. This was a good story, but I really wish it had been a great story!

One of the problems for me is the narrator, Tanya Eby. She has a certain way of pacing her sentences that is the same in all the stories, a sort of wry sarcasm that was fun at first but becomes a bit boring. She has narrated a number of the recent Krentz/Castle books and all the characters sound similar. The two characters in this book sound exactly like Marlowe Jones and Adam Winters in Midnight Crystal, one of her futuristic paranormal novels written as Jayne Castle. I actually lost track a couple times as to which book I was listening to! I think the printed book might have been a bit better than the audio, and I can't believe I actually said that!

This story had enough interesting plot twists to keep me interested to the end, and I had not predicted the ending so that was good. I am sure I'll buy the next book because I want to find out who is in it. So far two best friends have married two brothers, so now what? There is a sister but I wonder who the male protagonist will be. It can't be Nick, so who? Inquiring minds need to know, LOL!

Duo 2of2

Book 2of2 in this modern romantic suspense duology with a touch of Psy. Best enjoyed after reading Copper Beach.
The Publisher’s Summary does a good job outlining the story. It’s interesting and detailed and well edited so it’s engaging and entertaining but light enough when you just want an escape.
Eby is a decent enough narrator.

Love Kentz's paranormal/ narrator lisp

I love finding the paranormal books by Jayne Krentz, mostly the modern and the Harmony series, dust bunnies rock. This was a good story to follow up with all her other books. Nice banter as always and enough twists to keep it interesting. The narrator's lisp was not as pronounced as it was in the Copper Beach book so that was good I almost didn't want to get it because it became so obvious in the first of the series. Otherwise she did okay with the voice differences for the main characters. Didn't have to resort to a truly annoying character voice for variety. Hoping there is at least another in the series coming for the Coppersmiths sister.

These eyes have cataracts

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is an ok book and because it is the second in a series, it is worth listening to as a way of following the broader story. However, Krentz is a better writer than this book shows. It is not a book I am left wanting to listen to over and over again.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jayne Ann Krentz? Why or why not?

Yes, I have every unabridged book Krentz has on audible in my library, not to mention the physical reads of her work I have. She is one of the great writers of the romance genre and well worth trying. But I would not make this book your first.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, Tanya Eby is a good narrator.

Excellent listen

What did you love best about Dream Eyes?

I love they way Jayne ties her stories together. You really get to know the characters and they become more familiar with each book. It's almost like reading about some close friends.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dream Eyes?

This story has some great surprises. I never guessed who the true villain was, I even listened to it again just to make sure I didn't miss any clues.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had to tear myself away from the book to get to the rest of my life.

Any additional comments?

I'm really looking forward to the next Copper Beach installment. I think I know who will be featured, since there's only one Coppersmith left, but will it also feature one of the families nemesis? That would be a real Romeo and Juliet story.

Loved it!

Once again JAK gives us another fabulous book. I was excited to hear Jones & Jones and Arcane was mentioned - kind of missed them in the last book! LOL

LOVE IT!

Jayne Ann Krentz is an auto buy for me, and this book didn’t disappoint.

Tuned crystals, strange artifacts, murders to solve, psychic abilities added to the mix, and slow burn romance, make this a very enjoyable story. The narrator makes it a great listen.
