Damon DeMasters is a vampire warrior who has taken an oath to not only protect his own kind, but humans as well. Crimson Rush is the new drug on the streets, and it's their duty to find who is behind the selling of vampire blood and stop it.
A social worker, Nicole Callahan, fights for the right of every child placed in her care. There's a war now, as vampires have stepped out into the spotlight taking their place in society, and the children are at the heart of it all.
Damon and his fellow warriors have been ordered by the Vampire Council to train Nicole and her colleagues against the dangers they now face in their new world. Even as sparks fly and tensions mount, Nicole and Damon depend on each other to protect the children of both races.

I'm a lover of books, both read and audible.
The vampires have come out of the coffin and a new drug hits the streets, called “Crimson Rush”. This new drug is the blood of vampires and it’s gives the user an unbelievable high. Because of the drug, vampires have been changing children into vampires in order to create a constant supply of the drug. This draws in social worker, Nicole Callahan and her coworkers to protect this vulnerable children. She is an extremely dedicated to protecting children, both human and vampire, and will stop at nothing to make sure there are not harmed. Because her job and her co workers have become increasingly dangerous, her boss brings in vampires from the vampire council to instruct them on proper defense against all attacks, let’s bring in warrior Damon Demasters, HELLO MISTER VAMPIRE!
Damon is an alpha vampire and a warrior, a dynamic duo of a personality. He realizes Nicole is his mate from the moment he sees her but denies that idea because of a tragedy in his past (I’m not telling, read the book). He loves the fact that Nicole puts everyone‘s safety above her own, which he considers a rarity both in human and vampires, but also hates that very same idea because she is always getting into trouble. Nicole is a no nonsense, let me do it, out to save the world type of heroine. She always puts others ahead of herself and loves her job. Nicole wants Damon but refuses to make herself available to him only to be hurt again.
The story is well developed and interesting. I would have like a little more background information about the vampires and the vampire council before they decided to make their presence known to the world. But I like the protectors and their sense of humor.
The narrator’s voice is very deep but not always exciting. He can sometimes be monotone when he is talking. But if you can get pass that, it's not that bad.
Yes buy the book; it’s a good vampire book, with some action, decent romance scenes and funny interaction between characters. In my book, that’s a good read.
Yes. I love this series and have read each book at least 3 times. I love listening to my favorite books as long as the narrator has a decent voice. This narrator had a very nice deep manly voice. It was purrrfect. Plus I love these vamps. They are wonderful alpha males and once they find that special girl, it's amazing what they'll do for them. The whole story was fascinating.
The author gets very in-depth with her characters. Plus all the side characters are just as important as the main character.
My favorite seen is when Nicole decides to save Damon and never once asking for help. She knew how difficult it would be for him so she chose him over life.
Hurry up with all my other protectors!!! I need those audio books and please use the same narrator.
Books speak to the soul.
A refreshing & hard edged Vampire series. It reminds me of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Although it isn't quite as hard (so far) as BDB. Sadly, there are only 2 books in the series of 7 books in audio format (at the present time). Hopefully, that will change in the future. They are listed in Audible so hopefully they are being recorded now.
The Protector series is about VC Warriors; an elite group of vampires who protect innocents, whether human or those of their own race. There are half-breed vampires that have been kidnapped & scientifically engineered. Some of the half-breeds are traitors to their race while others have been taken in by the warriors. This series is fast paced, detailed & exciting. It has a different spin on the Vampire stories of the past.
Each book features one of the Vampire Council Warriors, his interaction with the warriors & a romance. There is enough steamy romance to satisfy, yet not porn because there is a plot rather than one sexual encounter after another. The latter is frustrating.
The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, does an excellent job. He brings each of the characters to life. Well chosen narrator.
This is a must read/listen... If you love Teresa's books give this a listen!!!!
Jeffery Kafer this is the first audio book I have listened too that was narrated by a man.... Well done!!!!
I'm a huge fan of this series so when I saw it was available I had to snatch it up. I've listed to this Narrator read other books and he always does an awesome job. This book was no exception. I really hope he reads the entire series!!!!
This audiobook ranks in the top 25% of all my listens. It was my first read/listen in the much loved series The Protectors. Aptly named since Damon became Nicole's protector from the moment he first met her. Nicole was a protector in her own right, and her devotion to the kids under her care was touching. I enjoyed the Vampire Warriors brotherhood very much, and look forward to continuing this series with "Jared" next up.
My favorite part of the book occurred when Damon gave Nicole a new pair of turtles to replace the horrific loss of her beloved Ren and Stimpy. Nicole was overcome with emotion, because no one had shown such love and compassion to her before.
Loved the choice of Kafer for narrator. He used different inflections for the cast of characters, which were predominantly male, but gave Nicole her own voice as well. He truly brought the characters to life.
Yes, most definitely. It was the perfect length and easy to finish in one day. Damon was action-packed and held my attention from the beginning.
Overall, I would recommend this book to those who enjoy paranormal romance between a strong hero and an independent woman. Thank you Teresa Gabelman for sharing this wonderful world of vamps.
New Take On Vamps and I Love It!
First and foremost, the narrator was absolutely fantastic! His deep voice felt like hot caramel being served over vanilla bean ice cream. YUM!
Then, the alpha male vamps... Phew! Get out a fan, a cold compress, something, anything! They are hooooooooot!
I also really loved how Nicole, although vulnerable, still is strong and kicks total ass! She isn't the typical, "Woe is me," character we've come to expect in vampire books.
Lastly, I really liked the idea of the "Crimson Rush." It's totally unique and paired with the idea of vamp social workers, it's just completely amazing!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves vamps, action, hotness, and fantastic new takes on vamps!
Seriously, read this book!
Good book just a little short for the world building and plot line. Main character fluctuated between super tough and mildly immature.
Couldn't Get Enough!! NEXT ONE PLEASE!! (ok that's six words)
All of it. The steamy romance, the comic relief.
Sexy, sultry voice. Reading would have been exciting, but his voice took it to a whole new level
I received this book in exchange for a honest review.
It was good, good pacing, even delivery.
Yes, and I did.
Perfect pick me up for a quiet day.
Maybe - if they wanted something with no emotional connection.
The storyline was very predictable - I could have told you the end after listening to the first two chapters. Saying that, I do listen to a lot of Contemporary Fantasy
I love this mans voice, golden brown and sexy - a real vampire voice - in my opinion
I did listen to this book during one day
Very ordinary, adequate listen, I guessed the 'baddie' very quickly, the background story was quite weak.
