Damon DeMasters is a vampire warrior who has taken an oath to not only protect his own kind, but humans as well. Crimson Rush is the new drug on the streets, and it's their duty to find who is behind the selling of vampire blood and stop it.
A social worker, Nicole Callahan, fights for the right of every child placed in her care. There's a war now, as vampires have stepped out into the spotlight taking their place in society, and the children are at the heart of it all.
Damon and his fellow warriors have been ordered by the Vampire Council to train Nicole and her colleagues against the dangers they now face in their new world. Even as sparks fly and tensions mount, Nicole and Damon depend on each other to protect the children of both races.

I'm a lover of books, both read and audible.
The vampires have come out of the coffin and a new drug hits the streets, called “Crimson Rush”. This new drug is the blood of vampires and it’s gives the user an unbelievable high. Because of the drug, vampires have been changing children into vampires in order to create a constant supply of the drug. This draws in social worker, Nicole Callahan and her coworkers to protect this vulnerable children. She is an extremely dedicated to protecting children, both human and vampire, and will stop at nothing to make sure there are not harmed. Because her job and her co workers have become increasingly dangerous, her boss brings in vampires from the vampire council to instruct them on proper defense against all attacks, let’s bring in warrior Damon Demasters, HELLO MISTER VAMPIRE!
Damon is an alpha vampire and a warrior, a dynamic duo of a personality. He realizes Nicole is his mate from the moment he sees her but denies that idea because of a tragedy in his past (I’m not telling, read the book). He loves the fact that Nicole puts everyone‘s safety above her own, which he considers a rarity both in human and vampires, but also hates that very same idea because she is always getting into trouble. Nicole is a no nonsense, let me do it, out to save the world type of heroine. She always puts others ahead of herself and loves her job. Nicole wants Damon but refuses to make herself available to him only to be hurt again.
The story is well developed and interesting. I would have like a little more background information about the vampires and the vampire council before they decided to make their presence known to the world. But I like the protectors and their sense of humor.
The narrator’s voice is very deep but not always exciting. He can sometimes be monotone when he is talking. But if you can get pass that, it's not that bad.
Yes buy the book; it’s a good vampire book, with some action, decent romance scenes and funny interaction between characters. In my book, that’s a good read.
Yes. I love this series and have read each book at least 3 times. I love listening to my favorite books as long as the narrator has a decent voice. This narrator had a very nice deep manly voice. It was purrrfect. Plus I love these vamps. They are wonderful alpha males and once they find that special girl, it's amazing what they'll do for them. The whole story was fascinating.
The author gets very in-depth with her characters. Plus all the side characters are just as important as the main character.
My favorite seen is when Nicole decides to save Damon and never once asking for help. She knew how difficult it would be for him so she chose him over life.
Hurry up with all my other protectors!!! I need those audio books and please use the same narrator.
narration is great!
story is intense at times. Damon is hunky and steaming hot! Read it/listen to it. If you like vampires you will like this series!
I really like Damon, Jared and Duncan. They are all so big, bad, handsome and heroic. Awesome vamps. I like Nicole, too, but I was afraid she was going to have a TSTL moment. Instead she agreed to have a bodyguard once she found out there was a hit out on her. You know, instead of saying "I can take care of myself," like soooo many authors are wont to do, making their heroine TSTL.
This was a good story, with incredible vamps and strong secondary characters, Pam and Mitch were just great. A strong storyline about a street-drug called Crimson Rush made with vampire blood, and vampire kids in danger of being used, and Nicole and Damon trying to take care of them. Not really a cliffhanger but not an end to it either. There are 8 books in this series and I’d hate to think you don’t find out who the head honcho is until the last book.
As with a lot of vampire and human couple Damon was afraid to “turn” Nicole because the first woman he tried to do that to died. I mean, it worked out but what Nocole did was rather silly. Would anyone really choose to die for someone they’ve only known a month or so?
And Chad? What a whack-job he was. AND he had to be the most disgusting drooling man I’d ever read about. Gross. He was a great bad guy.
This book did have some sexual tension and explicit sex. There was a little swearing, because of the “swearing jar,” and the F-bomb was used 25 times.
The ending was so abrupt I couldn’t believe it. It was very disappointing. It should have been a little more romantic, something other than how it ended. Oh, it was a HEA but the last lines seemed a little ridiculous.
As to the narration: He was OK. I don’t see how he got all those 5 star reviews. He had absolutely no emotion: when the book called for a laugh he didn’t, and when Damon and Jared were sneaking up on the house where the captive was being held the narrator just spoke in a regular tone, no whispering at all. And the women were pretty masculine sounding, a lot more than they should be. So, no, he wasn’t a 5 star narrator. He wasn't horrible but he could have, at least, tried harder with the women’s voices.
i did not know these books existed and now i own all of them wanting more. i love these guys and how honorable they are and the love and protectiveness they have
I purchased this book, because I was looking for a new series. The book was .99 and the audible was 1.99. It took me a little while to start this book, however when I did! I did not want to put it down. I truly enjoyed the warriors. I finished the book and immediately purchased the second book. I love them!! My only gripe is that there are only 2 books in Audible, and although I buy the books on kindle also I love my Audible books. This is a great series so far with the 2 books that I have listened to. The warriors are down to earth with great sense of humor. The girls are also fun to listen to. I'm very grateful there are not that many woes me!!! I hate it when the female in the books all of a sudden turn week after being strong. With these two books the male and the females were great and funny.
When will the rest of the Series be done in Audible? At this time I see there are 8 Kindle books and only 2 audible, hopefully they will be sync when the series is completed.
Worth a normal credit if not on sale.
Books speak to the soul.
A refreshing & hard edged Vampire series. It reminds me of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Although it isn't quite as hard (so far) as BDB. Sadly, there are only 2 books in the series of 7 books in audio format (at the present time). Hopefully, that will change in the future. They are listed in Audible so hopefully they are being recorded now.
The Protector series is about VC Warriors; an elite group of vampires who protect innocents, whether human or those of their own race. There are half-breed vampires that have been kidnapped & scientifically engineered. Some of the half-breeds are traitors to their race while others have been taken in by the warriors. This series is fast paced, detailed & exciting. It has a different spin on the Vampire stories of the past.
Each book features one of the Vampire Council Warriors, his interaction with the warriors & a romance. There is enough steamy romance to satisfy, yet not porn because there is a plot rather than one sexual encounter after another. The latter is frustrating.
The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, does an excellent job. He brings each of the characters to life. Well chosen narrator.
Maybe - if they wanted something with no emotional connection.
The storyline was very predictable - I could have told you the end after listening to the first two chapters. Saying that, I do listen to a lot of Contemporary Fantasy
I love this mans voice, golden brown and sexy - a real vampire voice - in my opinion
I did listen to this book during one day
Very ordinary, adequate listen, I guessed the 'baddie' very quickly, the background story was quite weak.
It was good, good pacing, even delivery.
Yes, and I did.
Perfect pick me up for a quiet day.
