Publisher's summary

Within the pages of very rare books, some centuries old, lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell’s unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes - and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market. A number of ruthless people are searching for the book. Some believe that Abby can find it for them.

Abby wants no part of it. But the pressure mounts after a rare-book dealer dies mysteriously. Convinced that she needs an investigator who can also play bodyguard, Abby hires Sam Coppersmith, an expert in paranormal crystals and amber - “hot rocks.” Passion flares immediately between them, yet neither entirely trusts the other. Both are concealing secrets. Both have their own agendas. Sam concludes that the only way to keep Abby safe is to take her to property owned by his rich and reclusive family - a compound in the small town of Copper Beach, on a private island. But small towns are no safer than large cities when it comes to dealing with a killer who has paranormal talents, and a blackmailer who will stop at nothing to obtain an ancient alchemical code....

Another Jayne Ann Krentz hit for me.

What made the experience of listening to Copper Beach the most enjoyable?

As usual, Jayne gave me an uplifting story with quirky characters and some wonderful humor.

If you’ve listened to books by Jayne Ann Krentz before, how does this one compare?

I gave this book a three simply because there are several of Jayne's books that I love so much that this one has too much competition. However, the book was as satisfying for me as I thought it would be, although I felt it had too many arcane similarities, yet it wasn't linked to the arcane. Since the arcane society started in England a few centuries ago, I could have accepted that there were arcane people in modern society here as well as on another planet.

Which character – as performed by Tanya Eby – was your favorite?

Sam was my favorite. I felt she caught his subtle humor perfectly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I always want to listen to one of Jayne's books in one sitting, and this one was no different.

Excellent addition to the Arcane Series

Once again, Jayne Ann Krentz tells a great story with interesting characters, a fast moving plot and enough sizzle to be fascinating. Known for her Arcane Series which spans from Victorian Times (written under the Amanda Quick pen name) though the present to the future of Harmony (written under Jayne Castle) this latest entry features Abby Radwell with her paranormal ability to unlock encrypted books and Sam Coopersmith who takes on the job of protecting her.

The first book in this trilogy series, it might be a bit rough going if you are not already familiar with this particular world and set of characters. Read them all - fun, well written and not a flipping vampire in sight!

Arcane Rip off.

Jayne Ann Krentz is an author that is a hit or miss for me. This one I would classify more as a miss, although not entirely sucky. The first couple hours did have me doing the head bob, but once he got into her bedroom things started to heat up. But the whole time, I was thinking how did he get in there? I might be a minority here but I'm not a fan of the Arcane society books, even though I usually am all about the paranormal. This book felt like a rip off of those. I am also not a fan of JAK modern day books, her characters are too yuppie for me to believe, but occasionally I find one on sale and try it again. I do like the Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick books, but then she had to ruin those by adding the Arcane into those too. If you like Jayne Ann Krentz books then you will like this one.

Another great read

Great precursor for the harmony series. It helps to explain the origins of the crystals.

copper beach review

I loved this book. Like all of the arcane society and harmony books, this book was great.
I've added Jayne Krentz to my list of favorite authors. She has not let me down. If you have not read any of her books I'd highly reccomend these books.

Mindless Beach Book

If you could sum up Copper Beach in three words, what would they be?

Mindless Fun Beach Book

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

But overall, I was happy with JAK.

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices of the characters are brought to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At the end, when the will was read. Abby had created her own family.

Her usual good storytelling well told

JAK is a great storyteller, and this is one of her usual good stories. While there is no definite Arcane Society mention, the paranormal is pretty much that same idea, though crystal talents seem to have much more prestige. She is also dealing with the issue of a talented child in an untalented family and the problem of appearing "normal" in order to get on with her life instead of being locked up as crazy.

A talented young woman with a gift for unlocking psy-locked books, is approached by multiple parties with blackmail or bribes to find and unlock a certain lab book which contains dangerous information regarding certain powerful crystals. A friend refers her to a member of the family, the Coppersmiths, which first found the crystals and is also looking for the notebook, to keep this information out of hands which would misuse these crystals. Her stepbrother is also asking her for help with the notebook, as her family has been pressured by loss of their trust fund to pressure her.

Murder and mayhem ensue in search of this notebook, but as there are hints of other mysteries in the family, including the sudden upsurge of talent in the Coppersmith family and two more unwedded members of the family to match up. I suspect at least a trilogy for this set of extended characters.
