Publisher's summary

The end of her journey is only the beginning....

The Barrani would be happy to see her die. So Kaylin Neya is a bit surprised by her safe arrival in the West March. Especially when enemies new and old surround her and those she would call friends are equally dangerous....

And then the real trouble starts. Kaylin's assignment is to be a "harmoniste" - one who helps tell the truth behind a Barrani Recitation. But in a land where words are more effective than weapons, Kaylin's duties are deadly. With the wrong phrase she could tear a people further asunder. And with the right ones...well, then she might be able to heal a blight on a race.

If only she understood the story....

Not as good as the previous books in this series..

i don't know where it went wrong, but this book just didn't have the same effect on me as the others. usually i can't wait for the next one, but if it isn't any better than this one, then don't bother.

it isn't that the writing was bad, or the narration...i can't put my finger on it, but the vibe was wrong. the flow and excitement was just lacking in this one.

still and all, it's a good listen, Khristine Hvam is one of my favorites. i just wish it had the same 'something' as the other books in this series.

Great performance but slow story

What did you love best about Cast in Sorrow?

Hvam is always gives a great performance.

If you’ve listened to books by Michelle Sagara before, how does this one compare?

This story is slow and focuses on just one event. Many of the previous stories had multiple situations and varied characters.

Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?

All.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Please do not.

Any additional comments?

I am afraid that Michelle has run out of avenues for the story and is just casting about. She has a beautiful writing style but unfortunately nothing to say.

Love, love, love this series!!!!

This book continued the story from Cast in Peril. It had some surprising turns, and interesting developments. I waited a year for the continuation from Peril, and it was well worth each day's wait. Great story. Cannot wait for the next one!

A once a year treat

the only major bummer about these books is that they come out once a year. I really wish there could be two books a year from Elantra.

Well, Kaylen has grown a lot since the first book, and she still has a long way to go. I think the one thing that astounds me is that given all the death and short lives around her, Kaylen hasn't just said to herself: look, I'm going to decide on who I love, admit it to myself and to him, and go for it because life's too short. But in thinking about that, it's probably not a Kaylen sort of move. I did miss the dragons, but loved getting to know more about the Barani.

enjoyable read

I enjoyed the series and would recommend them. Gets a bit wordy in the main characters head but a good story.

Fun

So enjoyable...this might be one of my favorites. The little dragon makes me laugh as much as Kaylin Neya.

Awesome Story

If you could sum up Cast in Sorrow in three words, what would they be?

Wonderfully fantastic characters

What did you like best about this story?

The characters

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the Elantra series and I couldn't imagine anyone else reading these. The life she brings to the characters is absolutely awesome. They come alive and inhabit your mind taking you places you've only vaguely imagined. I've listened to several other stories read by Khristine Hvam and she always brings so much life to the character that pull you even deeper into the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

These characters, old friends now after reading the entire series, always bring laughter and tears both. That's one of the best things about this series and these characters. They pull you into their lives and you feel their joy, their sorrow and their loves.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy, likes strong characters and detailed plots. I've hooked my wife into this series and I'm working on my daughter and granddaughter as well.
