Brenna, a she-wolf Psy, was abducted by a serial killer - and returned a monster. The only person who can help her is Judd, a telekinetic and Council defector. But the passion burning between them could push them both over the edge of sanity in the third installment in Singh's breathtaking Psy-Changeling series.
Mind over matter: listen to more in the Psy-Changeling series.

"Mindblowing." (Romantic Times)
I'm a grad student with very little time to edit reviews because I'm editing research papers. Forgive the typos. They're made with love.
I've listened to the many books of this series multiple times and I still believe this book is my absolute favorite. The plot is better, the characters are great, and there are just so many things to love. Read the other two books before this so you can READ THIS. NOW.
There's just something about a character that is mentally damaged by their race to have no emotion who suddenly has instincts overpower the brainwashing. Judd is such a strong silent warrior with a clear desire to be something other than he is, and Brenna brings out his humanity. I love it when he finally has a flameout and gets a few hours to do as he pleases before he has to return to the emotionless restraint.
Angela Dawe is the perfect voice for the non-human type. She can pull off scratchy deep voices of the male wolf changelings and sound utterly devoid of emotion like the psy. She's in her element with these novels.
I'm a grad student with little time to read fiction let alone write reviews (which is why mine are usually in need of a proofread - there's just no time), so I have used audible as a way to get my book fix. I listen while driving, while cleaning, eating, while getting ready, pretty much any time I can snag. I've returned to this series again and again because it is my absolute favorite on this site. LOVE IT.
This love story was so intense that I got shivers. The need between the main characters was so thick and obvious and subtle and sweet and sexy and just everything. I could tell there was a connection before the characters realized it, but it was so subtle that I didn't feel like they were just being thrown together for no reason. Every scene was important. Nothing was wasted and that's what I love most about Nalini Singh's work. Her books are so well developed, and the characters are constantly evolving and growing together. In this one in particular. The main characters where so different that at first I was wondering how she would make it work, but midway through the book it was obvious that they were meant for one another. I've read all of the novels in this series so far and this one is by far my favorite.
Say something about yourself!
The cover art is misleading...this book is about a changling female...and a psy male.....it was yummy yummy yummy! It only got 4 stars for repetative phrases that started to irk me, but the story itself was still really good! It was also nice to be in the wolf pack...rather than the leopard pack...nice change of pace and dynamics since every pack is different.
Still heart warming, still thought provoking, this book was build up for what are many more to come! If you haven't started this series yet....what the heck is stoping you?
I enjoy reading series and very rarely read stand alone series. I mostly read romance and sci-fi & fantasy.
This is the first story where the main character is a psy male. It gives a different perspective to those who have defected from the net. Even though it was harder for him to break silence he did it for his mate.
When Judd didn't stand up for Brenna at the cabin and she was mad at him. He had no idea that he was suppose to support her no matter what. It goes to show that even in the future that men are still as clueless to women's needs as they are now a days.
It made me laugh. The fact that Judd didn't know how to react to Brenna and, Brenna's brother's reactions to Judd just had me rolling around laughing till my sides hurt.
I love this entire series and this one in particular. It has a great mix of romance (including steamy sex scenes) and action, just as all the books in the series do. The narrator does a really good job with this one. My only complaint about Nalini Singh is that she has the weirdest chapter breaks. Rather than stopping the chapter at the end of a scene, she does it right in the middle, for no reason I can discern. But that's minor.
The series continues and keeps getting better!!! Well worth the credit and if you haven't read any from Nalini Singh - take the leap, you won't be disappointed! I liked that although this one is still linked to the continuing battle with the psy counsel, you learned more about the different changeling packs. Jed and Brenna are both stubborn and when they finally give in to each other it definitely creates fireworks in the bedroom. Love it!! I beg that you keep adding the rest of this series!!!
I have listened to several of the Psy-Changling stories - just not in order. I read the first one, and had wondered at the end how Brenna had healed, then found myself listening to a couple of others about the "cold" Arrows & wondered about Judd's story. Finally, I decided to get the book about the two of them. So glad I did! This is a story about a severely wounded female - both physically & mentally - & an Arrow that had all the gentleness & love tortured from him as a child. The story of these two getting together was enticing & I enjoyed the whole book! Love Nalini Singh & Angela Dawe!
Paranormal romance doesn't get any better than this. Not only is there some awesome shifter goodness, but the Psy-Changeling series continues to be one epic Romeo and Juliet story after another, which in my opinion, makes the best ships EVER.
We met Judd and Brenna previously in the first two books. At first glance, Judd is the typical cold, emotion-less Psy - except, he's not. He's an Arrow, which is an elite assassin Psy. Being who he is, he has a whole host of new problems when it comes to his abilities that make it nearly impossible to break from his Psy conditioning like Sasha and Faith were able to do before him. But, there's enough humanity in Judd to recognize that the things the Psy want to do to further their kind are not remotely humane, so he's willing to do what he can from outside the Net to bring them down.
Brenna is still reeling emotionally and physically from the brutal attack on her by the former Psy council member. Strangely, despite being surrounded by her pack and her brothers, it's Judd that appears to be the only one she feels comfortable talking to. But, breaking through his layers of icy self-preservation is a challenge that she might not be up for.
Although I loved Sasha's and Faith's stories, I think Judd's may be the best yet. Mostly, because it was the most challenging. His abilities definitely complicated things in a way we haven't seen yet, and it made me wonder how Nalini Singh was going to get him out of the box in which she had put him in to begin with.
I loved how Judd's transformation was extremely gradual. It made it much more believable. And it made those moments of progress so much sweeter. Every moment he had with Brenna was fascinating and sweet and so very swoon-worthy - and that has to do with the fact that in those moments, he's very far from the Psy we know he was and can still be at times.
Brenna's in a precarious place. She's trying to find her way back to "normal," but everyone is coddling her, and she's not sure how to get back to where she was before. I felt so awful for her so many times. Nalini Singh did an excellent job making Brenna both vulnerable and strong, scared and brave, fearful and commanding. It was like Brenna was trying to fight who she is with only the knowledge of who she WAS as a weapon. It's an impossible battle, but with Judd there to help her, she's unbeatable.
We get to see plenty of our favorite cat shifters in this book, as well as Sasha and Faith. The wicked Psy council also plays a major role, and new mysteries are begun that, I'm sure, will play out in future books in the series. The world building and the mythology that Singh has created continue to be phenomenal. I love this complex world and all the cool things the different races can do and how they all interact together. It's a brilliant series, and the coupling of two completely incompatible people make it even better.
Once again, I listened to the audio version. I think I may continue doing this as I work my way through the series. Although it means it will take me much longer to get through all the books, the production makes it totally worth it. Angela Dawe is an incredible narrator, and I love what she has done with the characters. I definitely would recommend the audio version to anyone. It has enhanced the story lines for me and made the experience that much more enjoyable.
This was absolutely the best of the series so far. There is so much going on and many POV to hear from but this adds to the story without making it difficult to follow.
I want a Judd, the right kind of loyal man and oh what an alpha!
Brenna is incredible and battles through so much. She wants people to stop overprotecting her and let her go back to living.
Loved the romance loved the story. Impossible to stop listening to!! The narrator does an incredible job. Didn't think she could get better but she has.
