Publisher's summary

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For 12 years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

I felt like a Captive in the Dark Story

This is a dark story about a sick subject. The characters were not developed enough to be likable or believable.

Enjoyed it!

This was a great first part to the story. I love when you can see a stubborn MC slowly start to break into the softer side that the FMC needs. The narration for this audiobook was great! Looking forward to the next one.

A twisted tale that I loved, loved, LOVED!!

This book makes you honestly feel horror, disgust, pity, anger, lust, shame, hatred, love...I promise all types of emotions. It's dark, twisted and disturbing on so many levels but still I just could NOT stop!! At times, I really hated some of the things that happened, but the story was so intensely addictive that I couldn't help but love, love, love it!!! Captive in the Dark starts off with two men planning revenge. Caleb & Rafiq both seek the death of one man by the name of Vladek Rostrovich. But first Caleb has to secure a slave. The only way to get close to Vladek would be to enter a virgin slave into the Flower sale in Pakistan. Caleb has to get a girl & train her in six weeks, then go across the ocean to Rafiq in the middle east. Caleb finds Olivia. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him...  I loved how honest she was with Caleb and how she would rebel against him. She had a true fighter spirit that could not beat out of her through the whole book. I won't give anything more away. You will just have to listen to this story without any expectations. I want to tell you how much I truly LOVED this story, and convince you all to buy this book.

Unexpectingly Captivating

Where does Captive in the Dark rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book ranks up there with Fifty Shades and the Crossfire series, only with a lot more twist and turns.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Caleb, there are so many layers to his character. You love and hate him at the same time.

Which character – as performed by Emily Durante – was your favorite?

Claeb, the voice she gave Caleb was very authentic.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I was up all night listening.

Any additional comments?

I would like to see the Epilogue as an audiobook

Boring

The book is okay if you have nothing else to listen to but honestly it's very slow moving and repetitive.

Liking the story, narrator...not so much.

Just a few things:

1. The story is dark, but with breaks between the darkest parts. If you're just realizing you're into dark "romance" (oh I'm with you, just seems like an odd word for this genre), be prepared to feel a some internal conflict over how you'll feel at certain parts of the story. It's all part of the big delicious grey area that seems to be this genre.

2. The narrator is a little old, and the guys voice sounds...not as sexy as you're hoping. If you're accustomed to narrators like Jo Raylan (a lot of CD Reiss books have used her, btw - both author and narrator are sooo good!) or even Andi Arndt (A.L. Jackson or Corinne Michaels books both use her from time to time), you'll be greatly disappointed.

3. Forewarning, no real "happily ever after" (HEA) ending. Maybe happy enough for the next 10 minutes, but if you've been loving the story, you'll want to get in to the next book, ASAP.

It was a little cheesy

This was a little cheesy.

The captive falls in love with the kidnapper... the story is kind of lame.

With that being said it is a bit twisted with the toying of the captive, and some parts were engaging.

Pleasantly surprised!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely! Yes, this is a dark book. But it kept just enough light here and there so you didn't feel like you were drowning in sensitive, awkward, dubious content. Once you got over the initial shock of what was going on the story really started to develop. And you just had to know what was going to happen to Livvie? Could Caleb really do that to her?

What other book might you compare Captive in the Dark to and why?

There isn't one as far as I'm concerned it is a category all on it's own.

Which scene was your favorite?

Probably Caleb climbing in the tub with Livvie. Bathing her, taking care of her, holding her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

For revenge he will do the unthinkable.

Any additional comments?

Yes, this a hard read. Yes, there are a lot of really awful things that go on in this book. If you have a hard time with violence this is probably not a good read for you. But if you can just get through those first really rough chapters I promise you will not be sorry you took the chance on this book!
