Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant's life, panther, shifter, and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them - one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard. With the Alpha Pack battling an evil Fae who is slowly gaining control over Kalen's mind, Kalen can no longer trust his own actions, and he breaks off his affair with Mackenzie in order to keep her safe. But when Mackenzie learns that she is carrying Kalen's child, no amount of danger will keep her away from the man she loves. To be with his mate and unborn child, Kalen will have to unleash the full fury of his power, and risk destroying them all....

I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Please don't shoot the messenger - but I have to say that I'm so disappointed that I felt this book wasn't quite as good as the previous ones probably because Kalen (a very troubled Sorcerer/wereshifter who was thrown away at 14 and lived off and on the streets) and Mac's relationship was already fairly established although they did have to fight very hard to keep it. Also, there wasn't the quips and funny one-liners between the rest of the Alpha pack which were hardly mentioned at all as Kalen's insecurities grew and he felt he wasn't part of the pack.
However, it was a very passionate and enjoyable listen filled with supernaturals of one form or another all battling the evil dark fae King and his army and the intense sexy romance between the two lovers was harshly tested over and over again by the mental hold the King had over Kalen.
To get the most from this series it's not really a stand alone listen but if you haven't already listened to the other 2 books then it is a worthy paranormal romance series to plunge into. For the rest of us, well we will just have to wait until September at least for book 4 Hunter's Heart (Hunter sees dead people).
Worth a credit? Yes absolutely even though it didn't quite 'grab' me like the others it was still a credit deserving listen.
I don't think I have yelled at a character in a book so much in my life. I was so angry at Kalen and then cared for him and then yelled at him and then.... well you get the picture. I was physically tired by the end. I mean to tell you, whew. I thoroughly enjoyed and hated and couldn't turn off and...well you get the picture. J.D. this was by far the best one of the series. Can't wait to see who will be next in the line up. I was kinda hoping we'd see some wings before the end but that's ok they are coming. Thanks for the rush. Until next time.....
I spin my own wool and knit. Listening to audiobooks while I craft is one of my favorite things. I'm hooked.
The 3rd installment in JD Tyler's Alpha Pack Series is a non stop roller coaster ride that will keep you tuned in and invested in the outcome. It includes characters we've met and gotten to know in earlier books, and in my opinion, it's best to read this series in order to get the full effect.
Black Moon is the story of Kalen and MacKenzie. Kalen is the newest member of the Alpha Pack, a very troubled sorcerer and panther shifter. MacKenzie is a psychologist and functions as part of the medical team that sees to the pack. Their relationship began prior to this book, but apparently Kalen backed away from the relationship. Now they are back together, but faced with an old enemy who wants to lure Kalen over to his side. Most of the story is about Kalen waffling between his "dark side" and his "light side" as he struggles with his demons from his past. The big question is: Will he choose good or evil in the end?
On the positive side, this book kept me on my toes, and I couldn't seem to put it down. Kirstin Potter's narration was superb, but then, I find her a narrator I can rely on for a solid performance. The action was fast paced, and the story was original. I thought the two main characters were well matched, for all their individual faults. I also loved revisiting the other members of the Alpha Pack.
On the negative side, I must admit our troubled hero seemed to wallow a bit too much in his misery, and his self pity at times came off as being a bit, well, "whiney", for lack of a better word. Yes, he had a horrible life, and in this book the bad guy plays to that weakness, but after a few times, the "no one loves me so who cares what I do" thing starts sounding like a rather weak excuse. He uses his past experiences with others to excuse his bad actions in the present, and while I pitied him, I just didn't find all the "woe is me" stuff sexy. I love a tortured hero, but I love the ones that overcome what life throws at them without resorting to self pity or blaming others.
Then there's my pet peeve, which is a small thing and I'm sure many wouldn't notice. I hate when an author doesn't do his or her homework, particularly when it comes to the military. MacKenzie's father is the Alpha Packs government contact. He has reached the lofty rank of General in the Navy. This wouldn't be a problem if there actually were Generals in the Navy. Unfortunately for JD Tyler, there is no such Navy rank. The Navy has Admirals, not Generals.
I don't want to mislead anyone. This is still a very good read. These two problems (one fairly big, the other pretty small) brought an otherwise 5 star listen down to a 4 star one. I still consider this book worth a credit. It's an integral and necessary installment in the series, and this is definitely a series to read if you are a paranormal romance fan.
Say something about yourself!
Book 3 was full if contrived drama...lots of talk, not a lot of action, and full of misunderstandings. Overall it took me 4 tries to finish the book, I kept getting bored of rolling my eyes. I had to listen to it because I'm hoping book 4 will be back up to par and I didn't want to miss anything. Overall I wish this book had only been about 2.5 hours, so fast forward to that point and all will be well.
Maybe if he had resisted evil throughout the book instead of at the very end and if it had a better herione it would have been better
no I like this genre
Sure, I guess the narrator can only work with what she is given
No, I expected more after the first two books
Not much, to be honest. I listened the whole way through simply because I'd invested so much time in the other stories already. I spent most of my listening experience rolling my eyes and watching the timer count down.
Backing off on the campy, hokey dialog would have gone a long way towards improving the story. It just wasn't as strong as the first two books. I get that Kalen's growing sense of distance from the pack means there wasn't the same opportunity for the usual banter and wit that I enjoyed in the other stories, but this was just too much. Every time Malik opened his mouth I kept thinking, "it can't possibly get worse...". But it did. Hard to react appropriately to a bad guy's actions when you can't keep a straight face.
Yes. I really like Kirsten Potter in general but didn't care for this one at all. It was over the top, which was made all the worse by campy, predictable dialog.
Definitely disappointment. I loved the first two books! This one just fell way, way short. I hope the next one is better. One not so great book definitely isn't enough to throw me off a series, narrator or author I otherwise really enjoy.
I love losing myself in books of any kind
Compassion, Action and Emotion! You can't help but feel for Kaylan and his background
So I would recommend the story as I am enjoying the series and really connected with Kaylan. But honestly I was not with his mate. Mac was just annoying and must suck as a psychiatrist. She just did not seem to understand Kaylan or what he needed. In every instance of his bad incidents she was the cause. Oh we'll it was a great story minus the self involve woman.... How could she let everyone but him know about her issue with their relationship
Very nice really brought out the characters
You think your family is disfunctional....Try mine
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
So much better than book 2... We meet Kalen in book 1 and finally we get to see he on action... There is a .5 book missing because Kalen and his mate are kinda already together in this book.. Action was great and love story was sooo sweet...
Great credit or sale... Buy if under 10 bucks
Narration was superb once again...
