Tavern manager Leah Barnett can scarcely believe the path that destiny has chosen for her. Travelling from Boston to Colorado, Leah has come to face Ryder Damien, the son of her mother's recently deceased lover. Ryder, an angry, ruggedly sexy man, is incensed that this woman will inherit his father's fortune-even if he hadn't seen the man in 30 years. But Leah's charms are many, and soon anger is the last thing in Ryder's heart.

I can always tell when I've truly enjoyed a novel because I'm heartbroken when it's concluded. I've become accustomed to Beverly Jenkins style of writing and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this new twist. This story added a mystery to solve in the mist of all of the lusty dialog. I believe I've fallen in love with Ryder myself :)
Her description of him was so precise I could see his chiseled features as well as his intense eyes. For a character as complicated as Ryder, possessing his heart also meant to possess his pain. Leah was an endearing enough character to pull it off.
The antagonists in this story were plenty and the shocking revelations did not disappoint. I recommend this novel. Good job Beverly. Keep it up!
some of her best work from begin to end it's good to know that there were some well to do blacks and the story will keep you going
Romance Novel Lover
I own this book and now listened to it here. It's wonderful. The narrator captures the romance, the suspense and excitment the way I'm sure Ms. Jenkins meant it to be read. One of my favorites by Ms Jenkins. I love strong, independent black women. A must listen!
Very interesting prospective of a storyline involving characters from a minority background. Well-written and thoroughly entertaining novel. I will look for more from this author.
This story started with a bang and kept me anticipating till the end! Wonderful twist and turns. I couldn't turn this audio off. The narrator had a soothing voice; very appropriate for all the characters. Superb writing with explosive characters. Audio books ROCKS!!!
Purchase this audio book!!! Fantastic
The setting and the characters. Mrs. Eloise (who took me by surprise) who would have thought that she would have been the murderess in this story.
The brief excerpts of History. I did not know much about African/Native American Indian. Who would have known their role in this county’s history? Great Job!! Beverly Jenkins
When Ryder took Leah up to the cabinet for a quick getaway. The way he cared for her and made her feel safe.
Thrilling, enticing and sexy!
Thomas Perry did a great job with bring the characters to life. There was never a dull moment. I would most certainly recommend this audio book.
Never trust anyone who doesn't enjoy reading.
Def not top 5 but I can't resist a good romance novel.
No, this was my first.
It's not a bestseller or even the best romance novel I've ever read. But it's def worth the read.
Audio books are just my cup of tea!
This story takes place in the mid to late 1800’s, the summary and book jacket do not indicate that. Loved the characters and the story! Enjoyed learning about the prejudices and experiences of the time. The narrator was very good. I will definitely listen to more books by Beverly Jenkins!
