This series has great potential, but I found the male lead in this story extremely distasteful, so much so that I wondered why the female lead was still even attracted to him. The female lead, secondary characters and the general story were all enjoyable, but this is the first time I've ever been repelled by the male lead in a romance novel.
The first book in the series, Chasing Perfect, I hated and almost didn't get this one because it was so bad. However, I like Susan Mallery so I used my credit. This story is okay for a light romance but it is hard to like Ethan because he is so mean to Liz. I know the author tries to give his point of view but it doesn't help.
It could also be the narrator she is very bad, high pitch voices that is like nails on a chalkboard...ugh!
I would have given this 3 stars but because of the narrator I can only give it 2. I've got a list of narrators I don't like and make sure I don't purchase books by them and she is now on it...yes, that bad.
I am glad that I took the chance a purchased the second book in this series since the first book was just kind of ok. I love Susan Mallory books because even though I may not like some of the people in them those same people pull your emotional in in all different directions. So in this book Ethan is the perfect example of an selfish, self absorbed, take no responsibility of his actions, seeing only his side, jerk. And even though Liz made mistakes and messed up she is willing to take responsibility for her part and tries to make things right but Ethan takes her on a emotional roll a coaster and I wanted to just reach through my head phones and slap him. This book will make you laugh and cry and will pull you just a little further into the world of Fools Gold.
Say something about yourself!
Since Ethan is such a self centered butt. It would have been better if he struggled in business and in male friends. How could such a mean, weak and selfish person be successful?
Probably. Not all of her books have such despicable characters.
Ethan's mother was incredibly mean and a gossip. This is a terrible dis-service to small towns and makes the town catty and a bunch of bullies. No thought to the young boy.
The story dragged and kept going on and on about him not understanding or believing her so it was unrealistic and frustrating to listen to and they didn't understand and accept each other until the last 5 min of the book with no epilogue about how their life were after all the heartache which I feel we deserved after all the back and fourth
I started this series with book 10. I really love the narrator, Tanya Eby. she does a fantastic job. Liz and Ethan fell in love in high school, she got pregnant and now 11 years later she is returning to Fool's Gold. Her reputation is still haunting her after all these years. this story shows her struggle to move past her past, Ethan's struggle to accept his mistakes and the town's struggle to accept their part in the past.Very well done!
Tonya Ebby brought the book alive, I laughed, smiled, & if I were an emotional person I would've cried. I'll listen to more books narrated by T Ebby for sure.
I'm a busy mom who loves to listen to books. Mostly I listen on my way to and from work.
I liked the overall story and the ease in following it.
That Ethan keeps messing up and being a "stupid" guy.
They all are great.
No I didn't but I liked the story for this one better than the first book.
Great overall listen. I enjoyed it.
Book 2 was the first of the Fools Gold series that I listened to. It was actually with book 2 that I became hooked on the Fool Gold series by Susan Mallery. Although it is a series, you can start with any book in the series and not be confused or feel something was left out. Yet, having listened to the whole series, each book just adds more. Liz and Ethan's story was so touching. It made me become more invested in learning more about all the characters in Fools Gold.
