Publisher's summary

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Every Saturday night, she gathers with her three best friends—Peach, Millie, and Stacy—and drinks the same margaritas while listening to the same old stories. Intent on shaking things up, she puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends... but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman who shows Olivia that there is more to her life than she ever dreamed.

As Liv’s latent magical powers come to the surface, she discovers that having an interesting life is maybe not all it’s cracked up to be. The dark side of someone else’s magic is taking over good people in town, and changing them into vessels of malevolence. Unwilling to cede her home to darkness, she battles the demons of her familial past and her magical present, with those she loves at her side - and in the cross fire. Can the most important things in life—friendship, love, magic, and waffles—get her through the worst that the universe can throw at her?

Don't waste the credit!

Amanda Ronconi, does a nice job. That's the nicest thing I can say. The main character is the worst, most annoying character ever! Olivia does nothing but whine, feel sorry for herself and act like a dumb ass for most of the book. I have never rooted for the protagonist/heroine to be killed. Until now. It's sad because I liked most of the other characters in this book and it started out decently enough. I had to stop listening every so often because I just got too sick of Olivia. Overall, less then meh.

Amazingly funny!!!!!😊😁😃😂

This book was so funny from start to finish. Although there were some elements of surprise the author does not lose the storyline of its characters. Olivia "Liv" is very naive as she comes into her powers and want ing to play fair just to find out the world 🌎 doesn't always play fair. Life's quirky character makes the book funny and no to mention there were some moments of fear jerkers.

Molly Harper's Very Talented Doppelganger!

As a rabid Molly Harper fan, I'd like to think I'd know her style of writing anywhere, and thus find the similarities between her and Lucy March too striking to be dismissed. Regardless, whether this author is a figment of Molly Harper's imaginings or not, this book is 'magically' delicious!

The setting of Nodaway Falls and Crazy Cousin Betty's Waffle House, with it's whimsical (and supposedly magical) blue tiled square set into the linoleum, is a perfect backdrop for this tale of a 28-yr old woman who's tired of waiting for her life to start. She has a plan, but then Davina Granville enters her life and things get complicated. She discovers that she has hidden magical gifts, such as the ability to turn inanimate objects into woodland creatures, sort of.

This story will have you laughing and tugging at your heartstrings - but mostly laughing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and am hopeful that the author has plans to turn it into a series. I would love the chance to spend more time with these delightful characters and their continuing misadventures.

Cute Read!

This book is a cute read. The story is okay. Funny at first, but I'm not sure what I thought of the ending.

I listened to it. The narrator is the same woman who does Molly Harper's books. She does a a good job.

Not the best read in the world, but not bad either. If you're looking for a light read with some chuckling, this would be a good book.

Funny, enjoyable romance

A Little Night Magic, narrated by Amanda Ronconi, was a fabulous listen. It was funny, sweet and enjoyable. Ronconi's interpretation was perfect for the story, with only one small, off note (she mispronounced "burying the lead", a newspaper saying for not leading with the most important part, as 'burying the led" - I use this saying a lot so it distracted me to hear it like that). I wouldn't have bought this book based on the summary but Audible.com had a great deal and I took a chance. Based on this reading, I would happily listen/read to another Lucy March story and will be happy to listen to other titles read by Ms Ronconi.

Among other things, Ms March gave us some great phrasing. My favorite is "contact fat", which our heroine, Olivia, says she gets just by serving the delicious food at Crazy Cousin Betty's restaurant. She is well paired with Tobias, the hero, and the secondary characters are well drawn. Definitely an enjoyable read that I will likely listen to again.

Unserious light fantasy

A Little Night Magic is a great, sweet story about discovering yourself in situations you couldn't imagine, and finding love when it smacks you in the face.

Amanda Ronconi's narration is fun; she goes seamlessly between all the characters, and you believe her smart old lady characters. They're where it's at!

well develope characters in a Magic story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is somewhat like the Half Moon Hallow story's well written and Amanda does a great job narrating it.

Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes all her Half moon Hallow story's, it was one of the reason's I tried this book. I think she does a great job.

Any additional comments?

This book is worth a try and if you like it there is a series to listen to, I am going to get the 2nd book now.

Good possibilites-poor execution

“Be Careful what you wish for . . .”

Olivia Kiskey should have remembered that. I mean really – she should have learned that particular lesson when standing on the magic linoleum square by booth nine at Crazy Cousin Betty’s Waffle House granted her wish. But again – be careful what you wish for. Like when she wished on the magic square for “a little more space” from her college boyfriend, Charlie. Two days later? Yep. He dumped her for his roommate – Neal. Sigh.

“A Little Night Magic” starts out funny, and Amanda Ronconi does a beautiful job of narration, her slightly nasal voice is completely believable as Olivia.

When Olivia decides she is finally going to give up her crush on Tobias the cook, sell the house her mother left her, and travel to Scotland, well, people really don’t know what to think. And when Olivia finds out that she can turn objects to animals, things get really whacky . . .

There are things I liked about A Little Night Magic. Olivia is a fun character – she has been stuck in a small town, working as a waitress, for years. As she says, “Spontaneity without commitment is just wishful thinking.” So, in six weeks, she is outta-there. Well, at least that is what she is planning. For a twenty-eight year old, she is very ‘young.’ So when Davina, a supposed ‘magical person’ shows up, and things start getting interesting, Olivia starts learning new things – the hard way. Davina is sure that Olivia is magical – and is determined to teach her. Hence, the whole ‘my coffee mug is now named Gibson’ thing. There are secrets, evil, a stranger chasing her – and the people she has known all her life are even stranger.

Then there are the things that could have been done much better. The give-and-take between Olivia and Tobias is aggravating, to say the least. Tobias is passive-aggressive, the people trying to ‘help’ her are more harmful than helpful, and Olivia’s innocence, in my opinion, is laid on a bit thick. This is a ‘fluffy’ book – which I really don’t mind at all – but Olivia’s ‘friends’ are spiteful and the mystery was figured out within the first couple of chapters, which really doesn’t work for me. The other thing that really disappointed me? The “Bad Guy” is truly evil. And yet, instead of doing something about it, or helping others with the ability do something about it, Olivia is a complete gutless weenie loser. I mean, come ON! You have the ability to stop a murderous megalomaniac – and yet you are too cowardly to stop that person?

So, Olivia pretty much ends up in the “too stupid to live” category, as others have said. And that is a shame, because the concept was good – it was the execution that let me down.
