Publisher's summary

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Every Saturday night, she gathers with her three best friends—Peach, Millie, and Stacy—and drinks the same margaritas while listening to the same old stories. Intent on shaking things up, she puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends... but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman who shows Olivia that there is more to her life than she ever dreamed.

As Liv’s latent magical powers come to the surface, she discovers that having an interesting life is maybe not all it’s cracked up to be. The dark side of someone else’s magic is taking over good people in town, and changing them into vessels of malevolence. Unwilling to cede her home to darkness, she battles the demons of her familial past and her magical present, with those she loves at her side - and in the cross fire. Can the most important things in life—friendship, love, magic, and waffles—get her through the worst that the universe can throw at her?

Molly Harper Fans Will Love This Book

Would you listen to A Little Night Magic again? Why?

I have already gone through the book twice. The characters were likeable, the story a new and refreshing take on Magical People. I have been in a "Molly Harper" book sort of mood, having just finished her vampire series. This fit the bill perfectly. As someone else said in a review here, Lucy March is not Molly Harper, but she is close. In fact, I was so certain that she was Molly Harper, I had to check out both of their websites before I would believe it wasn't a Molly book.

Of course Amanda Ronconi does her usual stellar job...her voice is the perfect fit for this book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Little Night Magic?

Oh dear, there were two, both having to do with betrayal...I don't want to say anymore because I don't want to give away anything in the plot.

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

Davina, most definitely. Ms. Ronconi is human and only has so many voices to use in her narration. Most of the voices we've heard before. That is not a complaint, it is her magic. Even though the voices are similar/same to other characters in other books, she manages to individualize each character so that they are still unique to the personality currently being read. However, Davina is a voice I haven't heard before from Ms. Ronconi and I absolutely loved it!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I even stayed up way past my bedtime to finish the book the first time through.

bleh

Another book where the MC has no redeeming qualities other than "magic". When she isnt being a coward she is trusting anyone who tells her what she wants to hear and ignoring anyone who speaks truth to her. Sometimes she takes a break from that to cram desserts in her mouth or pine after men who shocker love despite her faults her but cant be with her for reasons. If you've looking for another version of this you found one.

Light Romantic Fantasy

Enjoyable story made better by a talented narrator. The writer has the potential to rival Molly Harper if she can manage to up her game and add more of the witty dialog that helps to make character's memorable.

Just OK

It was just ok. I struggled to finish. I don't think I can continue this series unless it was included with my membership.

A nice story

What made the experience of listening to A Little Night Magic the most enjoyable?

I really enjoy Amanda Ronconi as a narrator. She brings life and depth to her characters that brings them to life for me. Even though I am hearing the story, she is able to make it feel like I am watching it. That is of course mostly the author, but I give credit to Ronconi for knowing how to infuse emotion into her voice when necessary, hesitation, uncertainty, passion, and excitement, all finding places in her reading of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a lightweight story that doesn't really have a lot of negativity. Even though some bad things happen, it was apparent that it would have a happy ending - and I'm a sucker for a happy ending. :-)

Excellent

Slow start, almost slow enough to make me give up, but glad I didn't. It picked up and worked into the most amazing story of magic and magicals, I love the difference between the two and how the line is drawn. I saw the twist coming but it still worked well into the story line even expecting it.

As always I ADORE Amada Ronconi, her voice is just perfect for these style stories. I am more then ready for the second book and hope there will eventually be a third.

B+ rating...

This was such a fun book with such an interesting world....both they mystical side and the small town side. The book opens with Liv unhappy with her life. She's been in love with Tobias for years and he doesn't want anything more than friendship. Her father abandoned her mother early in Liv's life and her mother never recovered from that heartache. She was a shell of a woman and Liv can honestly foresee that in her future, so she's decided she has to do something drastic to change things....she's moving to Europe. But then a strange woman comes into the diner where Liv works and EVERYTHING about her life changes. No longer can she say she leads a boring life, but she's soon wishing that she did as everything she holds dear, most especially this small town that she loves is in danger.

The most honest thing you can say about this book is that NOTHING is as it first appears...except the true feelings between Tobias and Liv. Yes, he's holding her at arm's length, but as a reader you can see how much he doesn't want to be doing that. Honestly, I'd say his feelings for Liv were even stronger than hers. It's painful to watch the two of them together...but this is a romance novel, so there's hope there too. I loved that Liv was so normal...she's every woman you know, with hopes and dreams and worries about her life. As her magic comes in, she finds new friends....Gibson, OMG!! I loved the little snippets in the story with her and Gibson. So sweet and it just shows what a wonderfully caring person she truly is. I loved that you could see Tobias's true feelings even when he's pushing her away. The mystery behind him was awesome and definitely kept me reading. You have to love a mysterious bad-boy and Tobias is one of the best I've ever read.

There's a whole slew of characters here and so many of them were amazing. I'm not going to detail each of them (although I'm really tempted to) because then I might tip you off to some of the twists and turns in the story line. Just know, it is a great cast of characters. And honestly, this is where the narrator in this book shone! Wow, she was awesome with her inflections and she managed to give each character such a wonderfully different voice. I loved her voices. Seriously, the narrator on this book was incredible!!

I'll admit, I keep debating going and buying the print copy of it just because I love that cover so much...seriously fun!! And I will definitely be looking forward to more in this series and from this author!

Very funny, better than I thought

This book was very funny, better than I thought it would be. Main character a little dense, butt I hope she gets stronger.
