But apparently that only applies to the print version. I have had a copy of this in paperback almost since it came out and I reread it every couple of years because I really like the story. I HATED the abridged audio version. It probably wasn't the narration, which although I didn't care for the voice of the daughter, Stephanie Zimbalist did a pretty decent job. It just was so chopped and short that I felt cheated and somewhat frustrated. Jude Deveraux has such rich stories with so much built into them that when that's all chopped out for the sake of brevity it's very hollow and disappointing.
I love this book. I hate how it was chopped into bits. Only worth listening too if you want to be reminded how good reading the book was and not to enjoy the story.
This has been a favorite re-read of mine since the book came out. I love the escape. However, the abridged audio of this book is terrible. I will stick to the paper copy from now on.
I read this book years ago and still have the book. In fact I read it 23 years ago; it was the best book I had ever read about time travel. I was very disappointed with this ABRIDGER version of the book. It was shorten way too much. Maybe I am not being fair with my rating because like I said this book was and always has been my absolute favorite time travel book that I have had for years and have read it maybe 4 times through the years, so yes, I was very disappointed that so much was left out and a full version of the book would of been so much better, but has not been recorded yet that I know of.
I have read this book many times but was not disappointed in the audio version. I thought the narrator was excellent and the book the best. Well worth the money.
This book came to me highly recommended. And I have to say, I was not disappointed.
A fabulous roller-coaster ride filled with adventure, humor, and a steamy romance.
Ms. Deveraux, keep me guessing all the way till the end.
I love Audible for their variety and number of options of books available. I can enjoy books, take care of my grandchildren and drive too.
This has been one my favorite books since it was originally published in paperback. It remained on my bookshelves, never to be traded or given away and reread at least once every three years. It's not great literature but it is good fiction and entertainment. I didn't know it was on Audible until I took advantage of their latest website-wide sale and looked for several books I wanted and there it was! For some reason it speaks to me. I'm not a Jude Deveraux fan so I don't know how this compares to her other books, but I recommend this one for hours of good listening.
The paper book is a better read since this is abridged, but I had read that one when it came out several times over the years. I love this story because it is unique to time travel and the audio though very good does not fully give all the hummer and adventure that is in the paper book. This audio book dose make me remember the whole package and I can fill in the blanks.
I loved the hard copy. For the price of the audible I felt cheated. The full story is so much richer. I also didn't like the narrator.
Yes but not an abridged version ever again
I really love this story. I have read it about 4 times and still love it. The characters are great and the time period is too. I think this is one of her better books. The Unabridged version would be better, too much is left out in the abridged version.
Stephanie was OK bet some other narrators are better at making more distinction between the different characters.
