"A unique romance - it truly stands on its own!" (Sherrilyn Kenyon, New York Times bestselling author)
Love Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Romance books.
I have read most of this series and really enjoyed it. When I saw the audio books released, I thought that I would enjoy listening to the series as well. The fact that I have read and now am listening to the series, should tell you enough about where i stand on my recommendation. But I do want to note that I think this book and the series are slightly different from most paranormal romance books. There is a certain whimsical nature to some of the characters and plot lines, a la the Kerrelyn Sparks' books. It does have darker moments, but it is also fun...perfect summer listen for vacation.
I had already read this book, so the story wasn't a surprise. I've enjoyed all the books of this series. But I was delighted by the narrator, especially when he did Lachlan's voice. FYI, there is some explicit sex in this story in case that influences your choice of books, one way or the other. And it's definitely one of those rocky romances often based on misconceptions about each other. I got a bit tired of the heroine and felt like she wasn't fair to our hero for far too long. But I still liked the story a lot and would get the second book right now, IF AUDIBLE HAD IT!
Wowsers... Robert Petkoff narrates brilliantly! His characterisations are distinct and personal, his accents are excellent (no Scottish turning Indian here(or is that just mine:-)) and his inflection, especially during intense moments is extremely captivating, engaging and... Well.... HOT!
I feel like I'm listening to a secret intimate recording (at (those HOT) times) or a play rather than a reading. Superb.
As for the story, it was quite good although a little long and drawn out for my taste (and ADHD) I liked the intensity of the building relationship between Emma and Lachlan and the good amount of action and intrigue within the not so usual vampire/werewolf/valkyrie back story. Looking forward to reading more.
The story focused solely on this werewolf wanting to force himself on a vampire for 6 chapters - to the point where I lost interest in the book. I couldn't make myself waste more time on this boring, lame book. There was no story or character development at all. The only reason to read this book is as supernatural porn - that's about it. I don't mind books with explicit love scenes but a story should be the primary focus - not the other way around.
I loved the story once they reached the middle of the book, but the first half was just full of him being a jerk and no communication. So, while I understand why the characters were not talking to each other. I kept wanting to yell at them to get it together and talk. I was annoyed for the longest time.
I thought the ending was great!!
It is worth it, but after listening to it the first time. I kinda skip the first half when I listen to it again, but I do have the urge to listen to the second half again, so that's a good sign.
She doesn't make a huge appearance in this book, but my favorite character in the entire series is Nix. She alone is worth listening to the entire series!
I wouldnt put this audiobook in my top 5 or even my top 10. I did enjoy it to enough of a degree to finish it.
Anything in the harequlin romance style.
This mans voice was just incredible silky and sexy. He sounded exactly like locklin(sp?) he was the audiobook equalvent of chocolate cake, sure you can go back to vanilla afterward but why would you. Just incredible.
not sure about a tag line, but I do know it'd need to be rated XXX
I shoulda realized this just from the sensual cover art, but I really thought there'd be more storyline and less sex in this book. I wasn't nessarcily disapointed, but in the first hour, more than half of it it near rape level sexual activities. I did kinda roll my eyes a few times at Emma's "Recluance" to sleep with him. By the end of the story she'd only known him a month and was pledging undying love to him (As would be exepected form this kinda book) and Considering the other things he was doing to her, sex was not that far off.
I can't say if it was the story, or my mood. I just couldn't get into this one, I'd been wanting to read it for a while, and after thoroughly enjoying another Kresley Cole novel I went for it. But just didn't grab me like The Arcana Chronicles.
It may have been the overbearing, possessive lead male character that put me off. I normally have no problem with that sort, but this time it was too much.
With three hours left I turned it off and haven't returned. I may go back for another try at a later time.
I liked the Poison Princess but this one was a bit much
more story less sex
didn't finish.. got into maybe half hour & was very bored
an adolescent boy! Or have crushes on them! The girl is a weak victim, the boy is a controlling bully/ abuser and they hate each other but are fated to be together and they have CHEMISTRY so the sex is good.
I'm kinda sorry I bought this one. I usually like fantasy and this writer gets so many stars so I thought it was a sure bet.
Reading is a must-have ESCAPE...
Holy Crap! The first three-four chapters is intent on putting readers on the edge of their seats. Story revolves around a 1200 year-old Lykae (kind of werewolf) King who has been waiting to find his mate. He finds her alright but she's not what he expects... instead of another Lykae, he gets a half Valkyrie/half vampire - and a sheltered one at that. Lachlain is blunt and quite primitive. At first, he's not beyond man handling, but then he realizes the error of such methodology. She resists the pull of desire. All the while the full moon looms adding undo pressure.
I noticed this book in the First Book in a Series Sale, so I gave it a try. As an avid paranormal romance reader, it is becoming harder to be surprised. I haven't put it down yet and I've only a few chapters left. Full of surprises and addicting!
Robert Petkoff's interpretation of ALL characters is not only consistent, but he does one hell of a portrayal of Lachlain especially during intimate moments.
