I did try another book, my friend convinced me that the series was awesome, worth going back to. I HATED the first few chapters and gave up on this first book. I don't think sexual coersion is romantic at all. Rape is not sexy. My friend said the book got better, that the others in the series were not like that at all. She convinced me to go back to the first to get the back story and continue on. The second half of the book was ok. it took FOREVER in my opinion for the lead male to realize what a stupid @#%#ing bully he had been, and how he had hurt his female. The action was good and liked the potential for series. The other books in the series were quite good. "bad boy" but not hurtful men, fun sassy females, some stronger than others, romance (real romance) and some steamy scenes as well. Sometimes there is humor and they are a lot of fun. The following books remind me of Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld books. I think you could skip this one, listen to the second and figure out the back story. The narration was really good. I think one of my favorite narrators, especially for the male characters in the books. Some female voices are good...some not so much.
I had already read this book, so the story wasn't a surprise. I've enjoyed all the books of this series. But I was delighted by the narrator, especially when he did Lachlan's voice. FYI, there is some explicit sex in this story in case that influences your choice of books, one way or the other. And it's definitely one of those rocky romances often based on misconceptions about each other. I got a bit tired of the heroine and felt like she wasn't fair to our hero for far too long. But I still liked the story a lot and would get the second book right now, IF AUDIBLE HAD IT!
I wouldnt put this audiobook in my top 5 or even my top 10. I did enjoy it to enough of a degree to finish it.
Anything in the harequlin romance style.
This mans voice was just incredible silky and sexy. He sounded exactly like locklin(sp?) he was the audiobook equalvent of chocolate cake, sure you can go back to vanilla afterward but why would you. Just incredible.
not sure about a tag line, but I do know it'd need to be rated XXX
I shoulda realized this just from the sensual cover art, but I really thought there'd be more storyline and less sex in this book. I wasn't nessarcily disapointed, but in the first hour, more than half of it it near rape level sexual activities. I did kinda roll my eyes a few times at Emma's "Recluance" to sleep with him. By the end of the story she'd only known him a month and was pledging undying love to him (As would be exepected form this kinda book) and Considering the other things he was doing to her, sex was not that far off.
I am in love with pararomance and am always trying to find new series with a great story and sizzling hot spots!
Robert is the first male narrator I have listened to, and I have to say, he is amazing. He made this whole story come to life with his amazing accents. The women in the story was a little harder to deal with, but I can imagine it's harder for a man to do a woman's voice. It wasn't enough to make me stop listening that is for sure.
I honestly didn't have a favorite character, I really liked them all quite equally.
EVERYTHING for the most part. Just an amazing narrator, he makes this book extremely sexy.
I did, the beginning. Lachlain was so forceful with Emma, it was almost a little rapey... but once he started to realize how he had been treating her, and came to his senses after being imprisoned for so long, you begin to understand it all and it all comes together. I did not laugh or cry, but this was the sexiest book I have ever listened to. Most of my book have a fair amount of sex of course, but omg Kresley is REALLY graphic, and I love it...
I am hoping that the rest in this series does not disappoint as well! I am listening to Shadow's Claim right now, and it is amazing. I tend to like vampires more than any other, so I thought I may love this book.
Umm, no. I found myself super annoyed at the main characters in the beginning. Him, less than her. I understand that she had been this super-sheltered person but good Lord, I felt she was a dolt. She did develop nicely as far as being a good, loyal and eventually strong person on her own but I had to work through the first half of the book to see that happen.
This book had a LOT of sexual build up and tension. When you finally got to the actual sex scene, it was well written but afterward, I lost the characters again for a bit. Luckily, the action started shortly after and we didn't have to focus on her becoming a dolt again and him being obnoxious again for a bit. Actually, in retrospect, he was always that way and for a big, tough guy that claimed she was his & he had to protect her, she ended up not needing him for anything but his blood in the end. Despite all this, I would say that if you like steamy sex scenes and a bit of action on the side, you will probably enjoy this book. I am only a fan once in a while. I am content I spent the credit, I just will wait until I'm in the mood to grab another Kelsey Cole novel again. I tend to like more action and a stronger heroine from the start than not.
It is often said that a book's performance can make or break it. It's never more true then with Robert's interpretation of this one. He is brilliant!
The story is a good urban fantasy with all the usual supernatural characters and a love story with challenges. The heroine grows and changes as the story progresses. Overall, a good story in this genre.
Robert brings it to life in an amazing way. His accents and voices for each character are spot on. His rhythm for the reading feels like a smooth stretch of highway.
I recommend it!
Yes, I adore the author. However, I would love a woman one without a whine or flat voice to read the female parts with Robert Petkoff. However, if I had to choose a woman or a man to read these books I 'm glad they chose a man especially one with an amazing voice like Mr. Petkoff. He does sound a silly when he reads the girl parts. Sorry, but his voice is exceedingly masculine how could he not. Love you Ms. Cole.
Kresley Cole writes a true romance. Many times authors forget they are writing a romance and focus on a mystery or adventure. Ms. Cole also has those types of storylines in her books but she still concentrates on the relationship between the hero and the heroine. I love that and I find it surprisingly rare in fantasy/sci-fi romances. Her males are extremely masculine and her females powerful yet feminine. You do not have to read her books in order but I found it to be more enjoyable. She writes for adults and there are some of the best sex scenes I have ever read.
I just loved this. I wasn't sure I would, but it kept me interested and wanting to know what happened next. Robert Petkoff is perfect for this series!!
Wow...I don't usually write reviews, but I have to say that this is one of the best stories that I've ever listened too. I didn't want it to end. Throw this one in your cart!
Say something about yourself!
the werewolf's struggle with his rage was intense, i luved those parts.
i can't think of one right now.
there was no particular moment but i can say the girl kept getting on my nerves i found her to be irrational at times.
