Publisher's summary

A duke must choose wisely....

Leopold Dautry, the notorious Duke of Villiers, must wed quickly and nobly - and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, Eleanor, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. Villiers betroths himself to her without further ado.

After all, no other woman really qualifies. Lisette, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title. Half the ton believes Lisette mad - and Villiers is inclined to agree.

Torn between logic and passion, between intelligence and imagination, Villiers finds himself drawn to the very edge of impropriety. But it is not until he's in a duel to the death, fighting for the reputation of the woman he loves, that Villiers finally realizes that the greatest risk may not be in the dueling field....

But in the bedroom. And the heart.

Delightful, but not the best of the series.

The entire series has been an enjoyable listen and I highly recommend these books for their great storylines and interesting narration A Duke of Her Own featured on of my favorite characters from earlier books as the main hero. The only disappointment was his failure to see through the very obvious shortcomings of the woman he selects to wed. I hope Eloisa James continues this series or writes a similar one.

Series Just Gets Better

Where does A Duke of Her Own rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks as one of the best. I have listened to it several times and will probably listen to it again.

What other book might you compare A Duke of Her Own to and why?

Can't think of any right now.

What does Susan Duerden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love her narration. She brings the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh. I loved Leopold and Tobias.

Any additional comments?

I was happy that Leopold found someone to love. I enjoyed his character from the very beginning in Desperate Duchesses. I can't wait for the next installment.

Absolutely lovely...

I think this is one of my favourite from Eloisa James; there is not much conflict, not too over the top, just heroes slowly falling in love, some sexual tension, love triangle and of course a happy ending....loved it.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!

A compelling, great story with heart-wrenching tension. Keeps you guessing til the end, even though you figure out who will be together, the issue is "how" will it all come together.
Stayed up til after 2 a.m. to finish it in one day. Wonderful love story.

Great end to such intriguing character

Villier is such a complex character that I wanted to see him not only find a mother for his kids but a great partner. Eloisa James manage to do just that, I loved it

Wonderful. Enchanting. Touching!!!

Please don't miss this book. It is a stand alone even if fifth in a series. In my opinion, it is the best of the series. Actually this is the only book in the series that I loved and I listened to it first. It was so great that I went on to listen to the fist book in the series and found it boring. Then I listened to the fourth book and it was awful. I was SO disappointed. I suggest you just go straight to this fifth book, A Duke of Her Own, and skip the others.

The main characters in A Duke of Her Own are Roselyn and Leopold, the Duke of Villier. They are fantastic likable characters. So are Roselyn's sister Anne, and Roselyn's dog, Oyster. Another great character is Leopold's bastard son, Tobias. The plot - Leopold needs a wife to serve as mother for his six bastard children. He wants a high ranking woman because it will take rank to support the bastard condition of his children. There are two women he can consider because they are both the daughters of Dukes. One is Roselyn and the other is Lizzette. The contest begins!!

I listened to this in one sitting - well maybe a little nap in the middle. It is such a fun book, yet very touching as well. At one point I was very teary. The narrator did an excellent job with the voices, particularly Leopold. A most enjoyable escape.

Really, enjoyed this book. Loved her dog. He was the funniest and best part of the book.

Started s l o w... Ended great!

I liked this book. Not Mrs. James best but enjoyable enough. I guess my main issue is that the first half of the book is very slow paced. Then it starts to pick up and it becomes sexy and romantic as you expect from this author. The Happily ever after in this book is worth going through the first slow half.

Narration: Susan Duerden is one of my favorite historical romance narrators. Great accents, different and distinct voices for each character and she definitely adds feeling and intensity to the story. In my opinion this book is worth it if you find it on sale.

Narrator detracts from story

The sing song voice and the habit of raising her voice at a period are annoying.
