Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Ava Harrison comes a steamy stand-alone romance about a grumpy talent agent and the gorgeous business rival who can’t stand him.

He’s the hotshot agent who hates my guts. I’m the (almost) one-night stand turned business rival.

Imagine my surprise when Paxton Ramsey shows up across the boardroom table. Gone is the sexy smirk, replaced by open hostility with a side of taunting.

His overbearing, grumpy attitude makes my blood boil. But I can’t forget the taste of our kiss. The thrill of his touch.

Our clients expect us to work together. I can’t even stand being in the same zip code.

Surely, I can survive one week trapped on an island with my nemesis? Until one week turns into two. Then three. Then four.

When he flaunts his power to make my career dreams come true...it takes everything in me not to ruin his.

Paxton Ramsey thinks he’ll be the death of me. But I just might teach him how to live in the process.

A soft listen

I rarely do the enemies to lovers books. I never can forgive as easily if there isn’t enough heart or chemistry between the characters and I loathe assumptions.

Half way into this story, I wanted to stop filming the movie! It just got over the top ridiculous. Paxton seemed childish, not a fan. Mallory was okay.

Jason and CJ did great work!

Different, but Great

I actually listened to this as an audiobook. Before I get into my reviews I want to say that CJ Bloom and Jason Clark did a great job bringing Paxton and Mallory to life. I always admire both of them when they narrate. You can feel the emotion of the characters between them.

This book was so different than what Ava usually writes in so much that I kept forgetting that it was her audiobook I was listening to. This book had more of the feel of RS Grey, who I admire as an author as well. Ava usually writes Mafia type/billionaire men who are dominating to their women, and even though Paxton was a talent agent, he was still just a regular guy. I liked the camaraderie between Mallory and Paxton from the very beginning with them trying to one up each other, and then slowly falling in love. One of my favorite parts of the book is when they were building a fire.

There is a bit of a mystery to this book. You have no idea who is trying to sabotage the making of the movie, and it’s quite a shock when you discover the culprit. I also like the fact that you get to go behind the scenes of the movie making, and how actors/Directors could behave at times.

So, even though there were no protective men killing the “bad guys” in the story for the women they love, (he does verbally defend her if that helps. Ha ha) I still really enjoyed it. I had a hard time stopping to listen when I had to do other things. Of course, that’s how it is with all of Ava’s audiobooks. I own them all. 😊

Great Enemies to Lovers Romance!

I read it, and loved it. The audiobook version is perfection. Paxton and Mallory's enemies to lovers, and office romance is entertaining, and engaging. I loved to follow them in their journey to love. I liked the opposites grumpy/sunshine characters, the banter, the humor, the slow burn romance, and the sizzling chemistry. The stranded location on an island is a great addition to the story. Jason Clarke and CJ Bloom did an outstanding job bringing this story to life. The audiobook is pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it!

I WANTED & TRIED TO LOVE IT

I usually love Ava’s books and this was a much anticipated preorder which I dropped another listen for on release day. But unfortunately the story fizzled out for me because I didn’t feel their chemistry or any depth or passion as they went from enemies to lovers to wounded hearts and to a rocky road that needed delicate navigating to the happy ending. Jason and CJ were great as usual so the lack of interest wasn’t their fault but maybe mine.

Worth a credit? For me it was just an ok listen.. nothing good nothing bad so this time I just can’t say yes or no.. instead it’s a 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m afraid.

I thought this was an original idea

This was a very interesting storyline and I really enjoyed it. When two talent agents get called out to a remote island to help “manage” their respective clients during a film shoot, everything that can go wrong does. Maybe it’s the tropical setting, or the storm that forces Paxton and Mallory into close quarters, but the more time they spend together the harder it becomes to deny their attraction to each other.

Fell Flat

This book didn't really have a spark. Everything was just OK. The characters were OK but no excitement. The text conversations at the beginning of every charter totally ruined the book. Such a waste to have people texting about what was going on at the movie set, like the reader wasn't also reading what was going on. Totally redundant. Could have just had the characters discuss the leaks (as they did) rather than this ridiculous text in every chapter. Paxton and Mallory were rather boring also. Typical story with no real excitement.
