Publisher's summary

Life is the ultimate game of hide and seek... and the good news is that you're it! With the combination of playful irreverence and penetrating insight that made him a legend in Western philosophy, Alan Watts investigates the surprisingly liberating concept of "the universe as play" found at the heart of Hinduism, Zen, and other wisdom traditions.

Carefully selected by his son and archivist Mark Watts, You're It: On Hiding, Seeking, and Being Found features more than 10 hours of newly restored historic talks from the "spiritual entertainer" who helped define Eastern thought to audiences in the West. Here is a rare chance for listeners to experience the enduring brilliance of one of the greatest spiritual voices of the 20th century.

interesting

First time author recommended to me by a friend. The author, Alan Watts, is generally credited for being the person that brought Zen to Berkeley in the 60's. He states that he's not a guru rather a stand up philosopher, an entertainer. He talks about religion, Zen, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. but at a core level he's communicating pearls of wisdom that we can all live by. This book is like a series of lectures so you have to pay attention and methodically work through it. If you like these kinds of books, you'll like this one.

Everyone should listen to this.

If you could sum up You're It! in three words, what would they be?

Engaging. Transformative. Enlightening.

Any additional comments?

I've been a fan of Alan Watts and a student of Eastern thought for over 20 years. About 20 seconds in to the first lecture of this series I knew I was going to buy the CD version. Just finished listening to this on audible last night and my wife announced a few moments ago that the CD copy will be arriving in 3 days. It is something I plan to listen to again and again.

My daily listen

Alan Watts is the spiritual goodie that he insists doesn't exist, and if this book has 1/4 the profound effect on you that it's had on me, prepare yourself for rude and righteous awakening.

Excellent introduction to Watts

Any additional comments?

This fantastic series of lectures by Alan Watts helped me tremendously. The most amazing aspect of listening to Watts is how timeless his lectures are. You can easily forget you're listening to a recording from the 60s or early 70s (Watts died in 1973). I only wish he was around today, as I would love to hear what he has to say about our modern world and the challenges we face as a society today.

Must have !

Would you listen to You're It! again? Why?

I have listened to this multiple times & it never gets old ! I feel like many of these thoughts are just fundamental Watts, but the meanings change as your life changes. I have heard pieces of these lectures from youtube videos, but this brings them all together.
