A slightly different version of this title was available on Audible until recently, and my review is based on that one. (The main difference appears to be that for this one, the books of the New Testament download individually.)
I would have preferred a different translation (my understanding is that the NKJV does not always use the best and most recent Greek texts), but the reading itself is superb. Others have singled out Jim Caviezel as Jesus and Stacy Keach as Paul for particular praise, and I would agree with that. I would include in that praise Lou Gossett Jr as John and (possibly to a lesser extent) Ernie Hudson as Peter; but in fact all the cast members are strong and the narration is clear throughout.
One interesting choice here was to omit many of the "he said/she said" tags from the scenes of dialogue, when the speaker has been previously identified or is otherwise clear. This helps to heighten the drama of some of the confrontations.
The background music is effective and unobtrusive -- something not always true of dramatized Bible readings like this one. Sound effects are also carefully deployed and support rather than detract from the reading. I look forward to the similar treatment planned for the Old Testament at some point in the future.
I spend about four hours per day on the road. Audio books make my commute go by much faster and make it somewhat enjoyable.
This Audio Bible is a great listen and the performances by the narrators are fantastic. The only thing that I don't like is the layout of the chapters. There is no way to go directly to a certain book of the Bible. I would have preferred the downloadable parts to be divided into one or two books each.
If I want to go to the book of John, for example, I have to take a guess what parts contains the book of John and then skim through the audio until I recognize some verses.
This audio book brings the bible to life for me like never before, the background noises have made me realize just how real these people were!
You won't be disappointed!
I was afraid a dramatic rendering of the scripture would be too distracting, and too affected and cute. It can be a little too dramatic at times, but overall the it is a good rendering. It is now the favorite of the three audio Bibles I own.
The format is very easy to navigate on my Ipod. The book is divided into 12 tracks, one for each book from Matthew to Ephesians, and Revelation. The books from Philippians to Jude are on a single track. The chapters within each track are navigable also, so you can find what you are looking for fairly easily.
I love to hear the different voices that read on this book. They are all actors, some of who you will recognize just by their voices. It transports you into the Bible
Lou Gossett, it seems to come from deep within his soul.
Thr resurection scene was my favorite.
Yes, it brings goosebumps.
Over all this is nice to listen too, sometimes the music doesn't go well with the reader and the reader isn't quite that interesting but the whole brings out the bible well and does make for a nice listen while working or traveling.
The background noise it was awful
Let someone else play Jesus someone stronger someone worthy of kings of kings and lords of lords
its the new teatament
I signed up for a free membership (30 day free trial) with the acceptance of the free New Testament Word of Promise. When I downloaded it I found that it was the kids version. This is not as advertised. Not sure why Audible is showing the "adult" version as the freebie, but then they give you the kid's version. I was hoping to get what was advertised - not a substitute product.
