Great Performance, Bad Layout

This Audio Bible is a great listen and the performances by the narrators are fantastic. The only thing that I don't like is the layout of the chapters. There is no way to go directly to a certain book of the Bible. I would have preferred the downloadable parts to be divided into one or two books each.
If I want to go to the book of John, for example, I have to take a guess what parts contains the book of John and then skim through the audio until I recognize some verses.

Expertly dramatized

A slightly different version of this title was available on Audible until recently, and my review is based on that one. (The main difference appears to be that for this one, the books of the New Testament download individually.)

I would have preferred a different translation (my understanding is that the NKJV does not always use the best and most recent Greek texts), but the reading itself is superb. Others have singled out Jim Caviezel as Jesus and Stacy Keach as Paul for particular praise, and I would agree with that. I would include in that praise Lou Gossett Jr as John and (possibly to a lesser extent) Ernie Hudson as Peter; but in fact all the cast members are strong and the narration is clear throughout.

One interesting choice here was to omit many of the "he said/she said" tags from the scenes of dialogue, when the speaker has been previously identified or is otherwise clear. This helps to heighten the drama of some of the confrontations.

The background music is effective and unobtrusive -- something not always true of dramatized Bible readings like this one. Sound effects are also carefully deployed and support rather than detract from the reading. I look forward to the similar treatment planned for the Old Testament at some point in the future.

NOT USER FRIENDLY!!!!!!

Would you try another book from Thomas Nelson and/or the narrators?

there is no way to pick or see where you are by Book, chapter and verse, it's ridiculous!

What other book might you compare The Word of Promise Audio Bible New Testament NKJV to and why?

I have anoyther version which I bought that works flawlessly.

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

The narrators are actors, most of them are great!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It's a great book, it's a horrible operating system to navigate in this audible configuration.

Chapters markers are bad, but performance is great

The performance is great and I really enjoy listening. This brings so much depth to the word. But unlike most audio books, I don't want to listen to this beginning to end. I want to skip to the portion of the Bible I'm currently studying. There are about 250 chapters with NO chapter titles. That makes finding "Philemon" pretty hard. Even harder, by the time you come to the shorter epistles, chapter breaks do not align to books. So you find things like the end of Hebrews and the beginning of James merged into one "chapter". Whoever lined this up as an audio book doesn't have a good feel for the basic structure of the Bible.

Nothing like it anywhere

You feel like you are with Jesus. You get lost in the sound of what you spent your whole life wishing to hear-Him. Speaking to you...and it is as if nothing has ever existed and nothing else matters but His heart toward you. You are immersed in Him and you get lost in Him. Every distraction, every worry, every impossibility and frustrating situation evaporates. You play it again and feel closer to Him than ever. You wake up every morning and can't wait to play it again. It is new and fresh every single time you hear it.

Wish chapters were laid out better, still great!

If you could sum up The Word of Promise Audio Bible New Testament NKJV in three words, what would they be?

Epic must-buy

Any additional comments?

This is so fantastic and really brings the bible to life. It makes it so engaging and easy to follow. The actors, the sound effects, and the music are all phenomenal.

The only thing I wish is that instead of chapter 1, chapter 2, etc. the chapters reflected the bible book names at least. This would make it easier to reference things you hear in the audiobook in the written bible.

What I did in the meanwhile, in case it's helpful for others, is to type the first few words of the passage into google and the chapter and verse will always come up.

That's just the one opportunity for improvement, but overall this is epic and a must-buy for anyone interested in the bible.
