Great for certain purposes

This is a great introduction to the Biblical narrative and I highly recommend it to a new believer as a starting point. I also highly recommend it for the purpose I use it pretty much daily, as background for sleeping. It becomes familiar enough that I am not fighting to stay awake to listen, but if I am awake in the night I have something edifying to listen to. I do *not* recommend it as the only source of the Word because it is by no means complete, and while the narrator does a fair job at summarizing most of the skipped texts, those skipped texts were included in the original for a reason. There are also occasionally voice actors whose performance is overly dramatic or sub-par. However, overall I have been greatly blessed by The Story and feel it has deepened my knowledge of Scripture so that God can more easily bring passages to mind in my waking.

An easy to understand Bible translation.

Where does The Story, NIV: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book was far more enjoyable than other audio versions of the Bible I have listened to.

What other book might you compare The Story, NIV: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People to and why?

The Bible. The Story is basically an abridged version of the Bible. What they have done is combined stories that were told in multiple places in the Bible into one place. They have attempted to put the stories into chronological order by event. Some stories were completely omitted. However, in these instances the Zondervan people seemed to be careful not to change the meaning of the surrounding passages by these omissions.

Did Michael Blain-Rozgay and Allison Moffett do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes. God in particular has an easily recognizable voice.

Any additional comments?

I think this would be a great listen for someone who has never attempted to read the Bible. It is ideal for new christians and non-christians who know very little about what the Bible actually says. It hits all the "high points" giving the listener a good understanding of the Christian faith. It is abridged in a way that will help keep the listener from loosing interest in the early books of law. It is not a good book for someone wanting an in depth study of the Bible. While nothing is taken "out of context" much of what an in depth study would require is left out. If you have constantly tried to read through the Bible, but never make it, this is a great place to start.

DOUBLED MY PLEASURE

What made the experience of listening to The Story, NIV: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People the most enjoyable?

I am listening to the Adible version while reading and highlighting in the book. The audio makes the printed word come alive. Listening keeps me on tract and I will finish this book in a few settings rather than my usual start and stop approach.

Which character – as performed by Michael Blain-Rozgay and Allison Moffett – was your favorite?

The interchange in readings between Michael Blain-Rozgay reading the Biblical text and Allison reading the history between the texts adds to the flow of the material. Both are excellent!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

THE BIBLE

Any additional comments?

Great for any student of the WORD!
